Chapter 148: Revelation

As Lin Feng and the others flew through the dark sky, an eerie silence filled the air.

He was more than grateful for it—not only was he physically exhausted, but he was also mentally drained.

Not only did I almost die tonight, but now I have a bounty on my head from one of the most powerful clans in all of Silverpine City.

He clenched his fists, recalling everything that had transpired.

I was lucky that Chen Mei and her grandmother were there to bail me out when things went south.

But I doubt I’ll be that lucky next time.

A single thought echoed in his mind, undeniable and absolute.

It’s because I’m weak.

The memory of standing powerless against the Foundation Establishment cultivators resurfaced, filling him with frustration.

And yet for some strange reason he felt a bit off—like there was something important they had all overlooked.

WHOOSH!

All of a sudden, the massive Frostvenom Python halted mid-flight.

Right in front of it, a figure in a long purple robe appeared. He had the disheveled look of a common drunk, yet the sheer pressure of the spiritual energy radiating from him left no doubt about his identity.

Chen Zi!

Lin Feng’s eyes widened in shock. Only now, as Chen Zi appeared before them once again, did he realize something strange—Chen Zi, the very person who had saved them at the start of this ordeal, had somehow vanished without a trace.

Yet, before Lin Feng could fully process his thoughts, Chen Zi moved effortlessly, stepping onto the back of the Frostvenom Python as if it were solid ground.

Without hesitation, the massive beast resumed its rapid flight.

What? Lin Feng’s mind reeled. How did he disappear in the middle of all that chaos? And how did he just reappear now?!

Suspicion crept into his thoughts, but he remained silent.

He wasn’t in a position to question Chen Zi—especially not when the man was one of the reasons he had made it out of that disaster unscathed.

I guess I owe this guy a favor...

Lin Feng sighed internally. Actually, now that I think about it, that’s a lot of favors...

He pouted slightly but kept silent. However, only a few minutes had passed before Grandma Qing broke the silence.

"So, Chen Zi, did you confirm it?" she asked in a low voice.

As she spoke, her spiritual energy spread out, forming an invisible barrier around the Frostvenom Python to prevent their conversation from leaking. Lin Feng’s eyes widened in awe.

You can even do something like this? A soundproof spiritual energy barrier?

Before he could dwell on it further, Chen Zi, who had been focused on Grandma Qing, suddenly shifted his attention—toward him.

What? Why is he looking at me?

A chill ran down Lin Feng’s spine. Even though there was no malice in Chen Zi’s gaze, being stared at by someone of his level was still enough to make his heart tremble.

Still, this is much better than when that bastard Wei Sheng blasted me away without even saying a single word!

Lin Feng felt the anger in his chest, which had started to fade after surviving his life-and-death injuries, slowly rise again—simmering, boiling over.

Those Wei Clan bastards... One of these days, I’ll have my revenge!

He clenched his fists as he reaffirmed the vow he made to himself. Thinking back, that was the closest he had ever come to dying.

A cultivator who could wipe out Foundation Establishment experts on a whim had chosen to attack him out of nowhere.

He was lucky to have survived.

Though I doubt he spared me out of mercy... Lin Feng’s eyes darkened. It was probably because of Grandma Qing.

A wave of gratitude welled up within him, but it didn’t wash away the bitter realization settling in his heart.

His life had been spared not because of his own strength, not because of some hidden talent or luck, but because someone just as powerful was willing to protecting him.

It was a suffocating feeling, like a little rowboat facing gigantic waves.

He clenched his fists.

If I keep relying on others, I’ll always be at their mercy.

The thought sent a cold shiver down his spine.

He didn’t want to live like that.

He refused to live like that. If he wanted true freedom—true power—then he had to grow stronger.

Strong enough that the next time someone like Wei Sheng appeared, he wouldn’t have to depend on someone else to survive.

His resolve hardened, but he forced himself to push his emotions aside for now. He needed to focus.

Shaking off his distractions, Lin Feng turned his attention back to the conversation between Chen Zi and Grandma Qing.

Grandma Qing, noticing the implication in Chen Zi’s gaze toward Lin Feng, shifted her own eyes to him for a moment before speaking in a lazy tone.

"It’s fine. You can speak freely—this situation involves him as well."

Chen Zi remained silent for a moment, before he let out a quiet sigh as he replied with a simple question.

"You’re sure about that?" he asked, his voice carrying an undertone of something unreadable. His eyes, hazy yet sharp, remained locked onto Lin Feng.

Lin Feng felt the weight of that gaze settle on him once more. It wasn’t oppressive like Wei Sheng’s had been, but there was something about it—something that made his skin prickle. It wasn’t hostility, nor was it kindness.

It was... curiosity.

Grandma Qing chuckled, shaking her head.

"At this point, he’s already tangled in this mess. Keeping him in the dark won’t do any good."

Chen Zi exhaled through his nose, rubbing the back of his head.

"Mess, huh?" He clicked his tongue, his expression unreadable.

"That’s one way to put it."

Lin Feng frowned. Just what the hell is going on?

A storm of questions raged in his mind, but he bit his tongue.

Now wasn’t the time to ask.

Chen Zi finally broke his gaze from Lin Feng, looking back at Grandma Qing.

His usual carefree demeanor returned, but there was a sharp edge to his voice.

"It’s confirmed" he said. "The kidnappings we’re ordered by the Church of Heaven"
