Chapter 147: A Look

Chen Qing turned to the Frostvenom Python, her voice gentle yet firm.

"Frost, can you take us home?"

The massive serpent lifted its head, icy blue eyes gleaming under the moonlight like shards of frozen sapphire.

A low, rumbling hiss escaped its maw, mist curling from its breath as it slithered forward, its thick, overlapping scales shimmering with a faint frosty sheen.

The cold aura radiating from its body sent a light shiver through the air, frost forming in delicate patterns on the ground beneath it.

With surprising tenderness, the Frostvenom Python nudged Chen Qing’s shoulder, its touch cool yet reassuring.

Then, with a slow, deliberate motion, it coiled part of its immense body into a stable platform, its muscles flexing beneath the smooth, ice-kissed scales.

Lowering itself just enough, it provided an easy way for Lin Feng and Chen Mei to climb onto its back, the steady rise and fall of its breath making the surface feel almost alive beneath their hands.

Chen Mei hesitated, her purple eyes scanning Lin Feng’s face with concern. "

Are you okay? Do you need any help, Lin Feng?" Her voice was soft, carrying a faint tremor of worry.

Lin Feng met her gaze, warmth flickering in his eyes.

A grateful smile tugged at his lips as he shook his head.

"I’m fine, Chen Mei. You’ve already done enough for me. Thanks for protecting me—I really appreciate it."

Chen Mei narrowed her eyes, pressing her lips into a slight pout.

With a huff, she placed her hands on her hips.

"Hmph! So now that you’re fine, you think you’re some big shot, huh?" Without waiting for a reply, she swiftly stepped to his side, grasped his arm, and draped it over her shoulder to support him.

Lin Feng stiffened slightly at the contact, pride urging him to refuse her help, but his body told a different story.

Though the Flesh Regeneration Pill had worked its magic, his limbs still felt sluggish.

Normally, he wouldn’t hesitate to lean on Chen Mei, but with Grandma Qing nearby, he couldn’t shake the feeling of being watched.

Despite his hesitation, Lin Feng allowed Chen Mei to guide him toward the Frostvenom Python. As they walked, he spoke quietly.

"Thank you again, Chen Mei."

Chen Mei paused briefly, her expression softening before she masked it with an exaggerated huff.

"Hmph! You should be grateful that I’m here to take care of you!" she declared, puffing out her chest in mock arrogance.

Lin Feng chuckled at her antics, shaking his head as he carefully climbed onto the Frostvenom Python’s back.

Once seated behind Grandma Qing, Chen Mei settled beside him, close enough to offer support.

The elder remained silent, but her sharp eyes missed nothing.

Just as Lin Feng exhaled in relief, a voice rang out from the front, filled with exasperation and warning.

"Boy, if you ever disappoint my Mei’er, I’ll beat you so badly even she won’t recognize you!"

Lin Feng froze, a chill creeping up his spine.

He opened his mouth to respond, but before he could, the Frostvenom Python coiled and launched into the air.

The rush of wind drowned out any further conversation as they soared away from the Wei Clan’s territory, heading straight for the Chen Clan estate.

Moments after the Frostvenom Python vanished into the night sky, the air in the clearing shimmered.

The darkness stirred, and from the shifting shadows emerged a lone figure clad in resplendent golden armor.

The dim light reflected off the intricate engravings on her breastplate, casting a radiant glow that matched her piercing golden eyes while her hair, long and luminous, cascaded over her shoulders like molten gold, each strand catching the faint starlight.

Stray locks framed her sharp yet elegant features—high cheekbones, a delicate jawline, and full lips set in quiet determination.

Her golden eyes burned with an intensity that seemed to pierce through the night, unwavering and sharp.

Had Lin Feng been present, he would have recognized her instantly. After all, she was the first person he had met upon leaving the Blackwood Forest.

Elena.

A second figure, clad in dark golden robes had also appeared right next to her as he moved forward, scanning the surroundings with sharp vigilance.

"Young Miss, this place is dangerous. The longer we linger, the greater the chance of being spotted by the Wei Clan’s patrols."

Elena remained still, her golden eyes fixed on the receding form of the Frostvenom Python.

Her lips pressed together, and when she finally spoke, her tone was calm—yet there was an almost imperceptible edge to it.

"So now we have proof. My father was right—the Wei Clan has aligned with the Church of Heaven. They’ve even offered Wei Jun a position as a High Inquisitor."

Her words were measured, spoken with the precision of someone accustomed to politics and strategy, but something else lurked beneath the surface.

A quiet, unfamiliar sensation coiled within her chest, something she couldn’t quite name.

I told Chen Mei to look after him if they met, but it seems they’re getting along a little too well.

She barely noticed how her fingers curled slightly at her sides or how her breath hitched—just for a moment—before she exhaled slowly, pushing aside the unwanted thoughts.

The lingering chill in the air did little to settle the unease coiling in her chest, but she forced herself to remain composed. Now was not the time to dwell on uncertainties.

Her companion, still scanning the surroundings, urged her again, his voice firmer this time. "Young Miss, we should leave now. Staying any longer is unwise."

Elena sighed, her gaze lingering on the empty clearing for a moment longer, as if searching for something unseen before finally nodding her head as she replied.

"You’re right," she murmured. "My father wouldn’t be pleased if I stayed out too long."

Her tone was calm, but there was a hint of something else beneath it—resignation, perhaps, or something deeper, something even she wasn’t ready to name.

And just like that, the night reclaimed them.

Their figures blurred, fading seamlessly into the darkness as if they had never been there at all.

Elena’s golden eyes flickered one last time in the direction of the Frostvenom Python before she disappeared completely.

I’ll see both of them once they arrive in Brightshore City...
