Chapter 176: Unveiled Threat
Now there were only a few options left... move forward or retreat. After two hours, they would be eliminated from the trial and inheritance site.
Moving forward meant certain death. No matter how they tried to deny it, the fear was already rooted in their hearts.
In the end, many sighed and started going back. The leader of the women took a long look at Yi Lin, who had already reached 400 meters, before glancing at her companions.
"Let’s go back. There’s no point in staying here and making fools of ourselves."
The others gritted their teeth but didn’t deny her words, it was the truth.
They had just started moving when they saw Ming Yue walking toward them.
The way Ming Yue was walking... it was obvious that she was coming towards them.
They all stopped.
"Nice to meet you guys."
Ming Yue greeted them enthusiastically.
They all looked at her with frowns. They knew that she was acquainted with Yi Lin... so her greeting them so enthusiastically was just mockery.
"What happened? Why are you guys leaving so early? Wouldn’t it be great if you all join Yi Lin at the end line?"
None of them responded to her jibe immediately, which didn’t sound like one, but definitely was one.
"No, we just remembered quite an important task we were assigned by our sect, so please excuse us."
The leader of the women responded.
"Is that so? So Yi Lin doesn’t belong to your sect? You people sell your sect robes to outsiders, hm... interesting. Can I get one too?"
The leader’s face muscles twitched, but she still responded.
"Sure, but for that, you’ll have to come to the Western Region and ask directly from our sect, as we don’t have any spares right now."
Ming Yue sighed.
"Sigh... how unfortunate. Oh well, guess I have to add that on my future plans... although I think it will be good to visit. I’m sure Yi Lin will host me perfectly... what do you think?"
The leader looked at Ming Yue silently before saying,
"The ones who shine the brightest under the heavens often burn the shortest, so I hope you arrive safely."
Ming Yue nodded and said,
"But what if that shortest time is enough to burn everything to ashes?"
Both Ming Yue and the leader looked toward each other. In the end, the leader bowed and said,
"We have to go. We can’t delay our mission. Goodbye."
"Alright."
Ming Yue smirked and walked away.
She was sure her warning had been received well. This woman looked intelligent enough to understand it perfectly.
...
"Senior sister, what were you two talking about?"
One of the women couldn’t help but ask the leader.
"She was mocking and warning us... that if she ever visited Eternal Frost Peak Sect, then she would want to see Yi Lin safe and sound. If not, well... you can guess the rest."
"Eh! Really... who the hell does she think she is? Isn’t she too arrogant to think that she can face our sect alone?"
The leader looked towards the woman and said,
"I know that you’re dumb, but you don’t have to make it obvious... there is a reason why the two top sects of the world are trying their best to kill these two.
Do you know why? Maybe your brain is too small to even think about it, so let me phrase it for you... the top two sects, who can make anyone do their bidding if they joined hands, are afraid of two Soul Sea Realm cultivators.
So tell me, should we make an enemy out of someone whose existence is enough to evoke fear in even two behemoths?
I hope you’re not too dumb to understand this."
The woman got stunned.
Another woman spoke,
"But I doubt these two will survive the onslaught of those two sects now. If these assumptions are true, then they wouldn’t even care about the price they must pay to get them killed."
"Who knows. Nothing is certain. That’s why we really can’t obstruct Yi Lin for the time being."
"But it’s not like we were going to kill her anyway."
"True, but if we obstruct her and she does something foolish and dies, then the blame would still fall on us."
There was a brief moment of silence which lasted the whole way off the trial pathway.
...
Now, on the whole trial, only Ming Yue, Yi Lin, Jiang Hao, and a few cultivators were left, who were feeling too indignant to leave just like that.
Jiang Hao didn’t care for their feelings. He had made it clear by standing there that if anyone crossed the 500-meter mark, then they would have to face the consequences.
Yi Lin was already at the 500-meter mark. She had seen Ming Yue confront her sect mates. She didn’t know what she could say about it.
Ming Yue must have done something to protect her. She had already done more than enough. She didn’t even know how to return these favors, much less ask for more.
It was indeed quite a wonderful feeling to feel someone’s care. It had been too long since she had felt like this.
She sighed and vowed internally to do anything if Ming Yue or Jiang Hao ever needed it. The chances were low, but nonetheless, she would always support them, no matter what.
Ming Yue joined them shortly, and she looked towards Jiang Hao.
"Junior brother, when did you become so terrifying that just looking at you is more than enough to break the spirits of almighty greedy cultivators?"
Jiang Hao looked at her speechlessly while thinking internally that the situation wouldn’t be any different if she was in his place right now.
He turned around and started walking at a constant speed, while Ming Yue accompanied Yi Lin at her pace. Some of the cultivators who were standing at the 300-meter mark felt that Jiang Hao might not care about them, they were only few afterall, maybe just maybe he let them pass?
They started moving slowly, wanting to see Jiang Hao’s reaction.
When Jiang Hao felt them moving, he sighed internally but didn’t turn around to give them another warning. They were more than welcome to cross the mark.
"Junior brother, looks like you still have to work hard to make yourself more terrifying, as there are still some people who don’t seem to fear you."
Jiang Hao acted indifferent to her. He already knew she would say something like this.
It didn’t take him long to reach the end line and cross it, even while moving slowly. The cultivators weren’t even able to reach the 500-meter mark.
After reaching here he understood why others are able to pass it, the pain is equal to only 40 meter mark of Mountain Sword sect test, pressure was definitely higher and peak soul sea realm cultivators would definitely feel it.
