Chapter 175: Blocking the Way
Chapter 175: Blocking the Way
The leader’s eyes were fixed solely on Yi Lin. No one knew what she was thinking.
Yi Lin was aware of her sect mates’ presence, but she completely ignored them.
She sighed inwardly. Most of them used to be her friends, but now they were worse than enemies.
Life really could take unexpected turns. You had to be attentive enough to follow its whims, or no one could stop you from falling into the abyss.
A hundred breaths wasn’t a very long time, so the moment it passed, the barrier around the pathway was removed by the main consciousness.
Others immediately jumped onto the pathway and started sprinting at the start, as the pressure was still low and pain might be negligible, and they wanted to gain as much distance as possible.
"If all goes well, then I’ll meet you at the end line, Sister Ming,"
Yi Lin started her journey too. Ming Yue had already told her beforehand that once the trial started, she shouldn’t wait for them.
When everyone had entered the trial, Ming Yue looked at Jiang Hao, who seemed to be lost in thought.
"What are you thinking, Junior Brother?"
Jiang Hao came out of his reverie.
"Just wondering if teleportation is allowed or not."
Ming Yue looked at him with a speechless expression.
"Junior Brother, how about you try teleporting directly to the top of the mountain? That’d be far better than just reaching the base."
Jiang Hao shook his head.
"After thinking for a while, I came to the conclusion that using treasures isn’t counted as my own ability. So, using it would be disrespectful to many seniors."
Ming Yue nodded with sarcasm.
"You are wise, Junior Brother."
Jiang Hao understood her tone of sarcasm well enough, but with his thick skin, he didn’t care.
"Thank you, Senior Sister."
"Tsk... Let’s go now, Junior Brother. They’re already reaching the 300-meter mark."
The speed of the cultivators had decreased a lot, but they were still running.
Jiang Hao nodded and took his first step. The pressure was negligible, it felt like air, he didn’t even felt the pain. It seems like the pain is applied by the pressure it self.
"Junior Brother, I don’t feel like running, so would you go and clear things up? After all, doing things alone gives you satisfaction."
Jiang Hao sighed. Looks like he had given her a reason she could use for life.
Forget it. He didn’t really hate doing things alone. In fact, he would be even more happy to oblige if it involved good battles. The only problem was that these weren’t good battles.
He looked ahead. Most of them were already near the 400-meter mark, and there was no doubt that after reaching 500 meters, most of the battles would start.
They would definitely want to rack up as many eliminations as possible to earn more rewards from the main consciousness.
Yi Lin had started a little later, but she was already in front. This went to show that her battle strength was truly high.
But there was also a problem, nineteen of her sect mates weren’t far behind her. After crossing the 500-meter mark, they could easily attack her.
Ming Yue could already see this, so she turned to Jiang Hao.
"Junior Brother, while you’re at this task, remember to help my new sister, would you?"
Jiang Hao knew who she was talking about, so he looked at Yi Lin, who was being followed by her sect.
"Senior Sister, would she even accept it though? She already feels burdened by your help."
Ming Yue shrugged her shoulders.
"Well, I can always put the blame on Hunlang. I’ll tell her Hunlang looked at me with teary eyes and begged me for it."
Hunlang was still standing just behind them, as they hadn’t moved after landing on the pathway.
She looked at Ming Yue with blinking eyes, but she didn’t dislike the idea, so she didn’t react. In fact, she had just been about to nudge Ming Yue for it, feeling tense seeing Yi Lin being followed by those women.
Jiang Hao nodded. It wouldn’t take much effort anyway as he was going to stop everyone anyways.
"Well then, I’ll see you at the end of the line, Senior Sister."
Jiang Hao said and began walking. His speed was slow at first but gradually increased. Initially, he had thought to reach the end line and not let anyone else pass, but now there was no need to wait that long.
These cultivators were getting slower, and reaching the end would take time, so it was better to settle this at the 500-meter mark itself.
Even after reaching 200 meters, he felt the pressure was negligible. He looked at the 500-meter line and immediately used his full strength to move.
Cultivators walking the path only felt a blur, and when they looked toward the 500-meter mark, a figure was already standing there.
They were stunned to their core. They had completely forgotten about Jiang Hao after listening to the main consciousness. Some might have remembered, but they were very few.
Looks like not seeing him in action with their own eyes had made them underestimate him. Their minds had forgotten about him.
Now, Jiang Hao was standing calmly at the 500-meter mark, looking at them. This scene alone was enough to stop almost all the moving cultivators.
Almost all of the front cultivators were around the 300-meter mark, but even so, none of them moved a single step.
The only person still moving among them was Yi Lin, and also Ming Yue, who had begun walking slowly.
The moment the women following Yi Lin saw this, they wanted to follow her too, but were stopped by their leader.
Because right now, Jiang Hao was looking at them. Even though his eyes looked calm, she definitely felt dread while meeting his gaze.
It was as if the 500-meter mark was their certain death. Walking toward it was walking to their graves.
Two cultivators even moved back in fear.
They were none other than the two cultivators who had thought Jiang Hao was angry at them for talking about him.
The situation had changed quite a lot now that Jiang Hao was standing at the 500-meter mark. Those who were certain they would reach the end line easily were now the most frustrated.
Their dreams of getting enough treasures to sail through cultivation realms had shattered, and it wasn’t a good feeling. They felt indignant, but there was nothing they could do.
Even if they had a bit of doubt about the authenticity of the rumors, just the fact that he moved so fast under pressure, so fast that none of them could even see him, was enough to prove otherwise.
