Chapter 66: THE E-CLASS GUIDE

[Before Yuno was arrested...]

"GUIDE Noh Yuno-ssi!"

As soon as Yuno dropped the unconscious Mo Hanjin, Bambi grabbed him by the shoulder and forced him to turn around.

He realized he wasn’t the only one who was angry as hell at the moment.

Bambi had a murderous look on his face while yelling at Yuno. "What did you do to Mo Hanjin?!"

"I just taught him a lesson he won’t forget," Yuno said indifferently. "What did it look like to you, Team Leader?"

"Team Leader, Hanjin Oppa’s heart stopped beating!" Rebecca yelled in a panic. "What should we do?"

Oops.

"Did you just kill Mo Hanjin?!" Bambi asked. Who knew a pretty/flower boy like the Team Leader could look like a demon when mad? "How dare you—"

"Guide Mo Hanjin-ssi isn’t dead yet," Yuno said, cutting Bambi off on purpose. "He’s an A-Class Guide so he should be fine."

He did the same thing to Moon Noa before and his boss survived.

Granted that Sajangnim is an S-Class Guide, Mo Hanjin should still be fine since he’s also an elite Guide.

Well, probably.

"T-Team Leader, I’ll call our resident doctor," Kim Jaeha said in a panic while typing furiously on his phone. "I-I think Hanjin Hyung is still alive."

"Of course, he is," Yuno said, swatting Bambi’s hands away from him. "If he dies, then maybe he doesn’t deserve the A-Class rank."

Bambi glared at Yuno. "If something bad happens to Mo Hanjin—"

"Sure, arrest me or whatever," Yuno said, walking past Bambi. "Excuse me, but I have to attend to Esper Lee Sarang first. If she goes on a Rampage, all the innocent Civilians in this building will die." He pointed at the ceiling and the walls. "See? This is the result of Guide Mo Hanjin-ssi’s negligence."

Bambi looked around and was surprised when he realized that the ceiling and the walls were now covered with a thin layer of ice.

The Private Guiding Room where Yuno left Lee Sarang in was on the floor above them.

That means Esper Lee Sarang-ssi’s Mana is leaking and it’s taking the form of her main ability— ice.

"This is the result of you turning a blind eye to Guide Mo Hanjin-ssi’s abuse of Esper Lee Sarang-ssi, Team Leader," Yuno complained. He was being harsh, yes. But it wasn’t like he was wrong. "I don’t know what happened between Guide Mo Hanjin-ssi and Esper Lee Sarang-ssi. Still, I refuse to be a bystander— especially if turning a blind eye here would cause an S-Class Esper to go on a Rampage and kill innocent Civilians."

Bambi looked too stunned to speak.

"Team Leader, I need your help!"

Bambi was forced to walk away from Yuno and assist Rebecca in reviving Mo Hanjin.

But hey, the lazy bastard isn’t dead yet... I think.

Anyways, Yuno used that opportunity to leave the office.

But he wasn’t running away.

In fact, he went back to the 18th floor and checked on Lee Sarang’s condition.

Aigoo.

The entire hallway was already covered in ice.

It’s so cold in here.

Yuno was lucky he was able to open the door despite the ice covering everything.

And when he got inside the room...

Wow.

It’s like an igloo in here.

No wonder Yuno’s protective Mana came out of its own and surrounded him as if it was shielding him from the cold.

"Hanjin Oppa...?"

Lee Sarang looked like a beautiful ice princess— her light brown hair had turned silver-ish while her eyes turned glowing red.

She’s really about to snap at any moment.

"I’m sorry, Esper Lee Sarang-ssi," Yuno said while closing the door behind him. "I failed to drag Guide Mo Hanjin-ssi here."

He was smart enough not to mention that he knocked out the lazy bastard.

Esper Lee Sarang-ssi would have killed me if I told the truth.

Never underestimate a high-ranking Esper’s obsession and possessiveness towards their exclusive Guide.

"Is that so?" Lee Sarang asked with a sad smile on her face. Then she closed her eyes and covered her ears with her hands as if she had given up already. "Yuno-ssi, please leave. Then tell everyone to evacuate while I’m still a bit sober—"

"Can I touch you, ma’am?"

Lee Sarang opened her eyes, obviously shocked. "Yuno-ssi, you’ll die if you touch me while I’m in this state. You’re not Hanjin Oppa."

Right.

Never touch a natural S-Class Esper on the verge of a Rampage unless you’re their exclusive Guide— or else you’ll combust.

"Please allow me to guide you, ma’am."

"What?" Lee Sarang asked, more confused than ever now. "Yuno-ssi, I know that you’re impressive because you were able to guide Gayoon Oppa. But we didn’t even test our matching rate, so where is your confidence coming from?"

"Ma’am, you feel sober enough to hold this conversation with me, right?"

Lee Sarang looked shocked after the realization hit her. "Something is swallowing the sound of static in my head..." she said in disbelief while keeping her hands away from her ears. "Yuno-ssi, your eyes are glowing red like an Esper’s on the verge of a Rampage..."

"Ah, don’t worry. It just means my ability is already active. I won’t snap— Guides don’t go on a Rampage."

Lee Sarang looked around the room, her eyes following the flow of aura around Yuno. "Your Mana is beautiful, Yuno-ssi."

It was red.

Hundreds of reddish lights surrounded Yuno at the moment. He wasn’t usually this flashy, but he couldn’t control his ability.

That, and because Lee Sarang, a natural S-Class Esper, was "calling" to him.

"Your Mana is soothing, Yuno-ssi."

"Yes, but simply basking in my Mana won’t suffice," Yuno said, extending his hand to Lee Sarang. "Let me guide you, Esper Lee Sarang-ssi."

Lee Sarang’s body seemed to have moved on its own because she looked pretty shocked when she grabbed Yuno’s hand. "This..."

"I’m performing Emergency Guiding on you, Esper Lee Sarang-ssi," Yuno said, gently squeezing Lee Sarang’s hand. "Have a good night."

"I’M SORRY for touching you while you’re asleep, Esper Lee Sarang-ssi," Yuno said apologetically while tucking Lee Sarang in bed. "I’ll apologize to you properly later."

He had to carry Lee Sarang to the bed because she fell asleep after almost draining Yuno’s Mana. Hence, he was forced to touch Lee Sarang without her consent. Unfortunately, he didn’t have telekinesis abilities like Ki Gayoon.

I wonder if Gayoon Hyung would scold me for this.

But, at least, Yuno prevented Lee Sarang from going on a Rampage.

The ice that covered the entire room melted immediately when Lee Sarang fell asleep. But it didn’t flood since Lee Sarang absorbed the water from the melted ice.

Espers really have amusing abilities.

"Moon Noa tried so hard to hide you and your real abilities as an E-Class Guide."

Yuno turned around and bowed politely towards Ryu Sungbin. "Thank you for letting me finish guiding Esper Lee Sarang-ssi, sir."

Yes, it was the country #1 Esper officially.

He felt Ryu Sungbin’s presence outside the room while he was guiding Lee Sarang.

I thought Esper Ryu Sungbin-ssi would arrest me on the spot.

"You probably paint me as a villain in your head because of my history with Moon Noa, but I’m still an Esper with a duty to protect everyone," Ryu Sungbin said, leaning against the door frame while crossing his arms over his chest. "I would have dragged Mo Hanjin here to guide Lee Sarang if you didn’t knock him out."

"So, he’s still alive?"

"Yes, so you’ll only be charged with attempted murder."

Aigoo.

"I see," Yuno said, nodding because he already expected that. "Are you here to arrest me, sir?"

"You look calm for someone about to be arrested."

"I’m not guilty and I can prove it, so I’m not really scared. And even if you play dirty, I’m sure Sajangnim and Gayoon Hyung can outsmart you all."

A rich sly fox and a powerful thug are a scary combination, after all.

"Why do I have a feeling that you would need neither of those two bastards?"

"Please don’t overestimate me, sir. I’m just a lowly Guide."

"I remember you now," Ryu Sungbin said. "Noh Yihun¹."

Tsk.

Yuno internally clicked his tongue after hearing his old name.

It was my name when I was in the Lab.

"You were just this tall when I first met you," Ryu Sungbin said while pointing at his waist. "You grew up well."

"Sir, excuse me?" Yuno said, offended. "I was already in my late teens when we first met, and I wasn’t that small back then."

Ryu Sungbin was there when Moon Noa saved Yuno from the Lab years ago.

And the two were still together at the time.

"I didn’t recognize you right away since I’m doing my best to forget things related to Moon Noa," Ryu Sungbin said, pointing at the little bulbs of red light scattered in the air. "But your Mana is clearing my head as we speak."

Yes, that was one of Yuno’s strengths.

However...

My Guiding Mana only works on certain people.

"Thanks to that, I finally remember the thing that makes E-Class Guides truly special," Ryu Sungbin said, smiling smugly as if he knew what he was about to say was a big deal. "Noh Yuno, as an E-Class Guide, your ability doesn’t work on normal Espers— but you are compatible with all naturally awakened S-Class Espers." He tilted his head to one side while observing Yuno’s face. "And it’s something that the current government doesn’t know, right?"

Yuno avoided Ryu Sungbin’s scrutinizing gaze.

My ability is so stupidly great that it cleared Esper Ryu Sungbin-ssi’s mind so well— to the point that he remembered something he shouldn’t have.

It was the curse of being too competent.

"Come, Noh Yuno," Ryu Sungbin said while approaching him slowly, like a predator about to pounce their prey. "As the #1 Esper of the country, I have the right to arrest you for trying to kill a high-class Guide."

Aigoo.

"You’re not arresting me, sir. I’m turning myself in," Yuno said proudly while extending his hands to Ryu Sungbin, ready to be cuffed or whatever. "But I will exercise my right to call a lifeline."

Sajangnim, I’m sorry.
