Chapter 45: A Monster

"Blood Rush!"

BOOM!

A powerful red aura exploded from Gabriel’s body.

The ground fractured beneath him, the walls cracked, and a torrent of blood-colored energy surged like a violent wave, whipping the air into a frenzy.

The Ant Queen froze as she stared into Gabriel’s eyes—now blood red, like those of a beast.

There was no warmth, just murder.

"What... is this?" she muttered, her compound eyes twitching as the overwhelming force of Gabriel’s presence rose with each passing second.

’Ten seconds... that’s all I’ve got!’ he screamed inwardly as his fist smashed into the Ant Queen’s abdomen, lifting her slightly off the ground.

BANG!

Her eyes widened in shock as her exoskeleton cracked under the force of that single punch. She slashed one of her scythe-like limbs blindly—it bit deep into Gabriel’s chest.

Disregarding the bleeding wound, Gabriel’s fists blurred forward, smashing into the Ant Queen with violent force, each blow like a hammer strike.

BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!

Flesh cracked. Carapace shattered. Each punch landed with such brutality that the chamber itself trembled.

The Ant Queen screeched in agony, blood spurting from the cracks in her armor-like shell as she was pummeled like a ragdoll.

Cassie watched in horror and awe—Gabriel wasn’t fighting like a human anymore. He was more like a monster.

The Ant Queen kicked off the ground, trying to gain breathing room.

But Gabriel stomped down, launching forward instantly.

’That speed...’her blood ran cold. ’It’s doubled—no... tripled!’

Slice!

Her limb slashed across Gabriel’s ribs, cutting to the bone.

But it didn’t stop him. Instead, he laughed.

"Hahahahahahahahaha!" His monstrous laughter shook the cavern.

"What’s wrong, insect? Cat got your tongue?" he taunted, seeing the fear in her eyes.

With his blood-coated arm, he grabbed the scythe limb embedded in his side—and yanked it out with brute force.

KRSSGHH!

"ARRRGHHH!" the Ant Queen screeched, stumbling back in pain.

Gabriel gave her no room to breathe. He leapt forward—and headbutted the retreating queen.

Crack!

A sickening sound echoed as her head snapped backward.

Then—

Chomp!

Gabriel bit into her neck.

"GAHHH!" the Ant Queen thrashed about as green blood sputtered everywhere.

Cassie covered her mouth in shock.

Gabriel ripped out a chunk of flesh from her neck. The Queen stumbled, her expression pale.

"Y-you... monster!"

Her mandibles parted as she fired a stream of purple liquid that struck Gabriel’s face.

But in this state, he was temporarily immune to all poison effects.

Seeing her poison was useless, she tried to move. The human had clearly gone mad—she needed to alert the hive before she lost her life here.

But she couldn’t.

She couldn’t move a limb or even speak.

Her eyes fell to her feet, where a glowing magic circle pulsed with light.

[Stonebind Trap!]

"You... tricked me!!" she growled.

Gabriel smirked. "All’s fair in war, my friend."

Despite the madness of his rampage, he had calculated everything using his passive skill [Undying Heart], allowing him to think clearly and plan each move while appearing unhinged.

"Cassie, my sword!" Gabriel suddenly called out.

"On it!" Cassie snapped out of her shock and dashed toward Crimson Judgement. As she tried to lift it, a frown appeared on her face.

"I... I can’t lift—"

"Step aside."

A calm voice echoed behind her.

"S-Scarlet?"

BANG!

Scarlet kicked the hilt of the sword with such force that it shot through the air and landed perfectly in Gabriel’s hand.

Without hesitation, he activated the blade’s innate skill and—

SLASH!! SLASH!!

The Ant Queen’s body began to glow with strange red patterns—like veins of molten energy spreading across her carapace.

She realized too late.

SLASH!!

The moment the third slash connected, Crimson Judgement roared.

BOOOOOOM!!!

A blinding crimson explosion burst from the Ant Queen’s body. It wasn’t fire. It wasn’t mana.

It was pure destructive force.

Her body blew apart from the inside, the glowing cracks across her shell detonating all at once.

CRACK!!! BOOM!

The pressure wave knocked Cassie, the others, and the remaining ants off their feet.

Scarlet raised a hand to shield her eyes from the crimson light. When it finally faded—

She saw Gabriel kneeling, drenched in blood, and the remains of the Ant Queen scattered across the floor... along with some loot.

’He... killed it on his own.’ Scarlet—who rarely showed emotion—was visibly stunned, her eyes widening slightly.

She had arrived just in time to see it: the level of the Ant Queen—and somehow, somehow, he had slain her.

Though barely clinging to life, the fact remained—Gabriel had defeated a Level 99 creature alone.

Moments later, the rest of the group arrived: Lilly, Alice, Liam, and the second mage.

"What in the heavens happened here?" Liam exclaimed, eyes scanning the bloody chamber.

No one answered, but all eyes instinctively turned to the figure kneeling in the middle of the cavern—soaked in blood.

"Did he...?"

"Yes, he did," said Cassie, her eyes glowing with reverence.

"He defeated a Level 99 monster on his own."

Meanwhile, Scarlet calmly approached and picked up the vial that had dropped from the Ant Queen’s body.

[Venom Detox Elixir]

She opened the lid and fed Gabriel the elixir. Once she saw it working, she turned to Alice and did the same—until Alice’s appearance became radiant again.

All around them, the ants screeched and fled through the tunnels, terrified of the humans.

"Should we give chase?" asked one of the mages.

"They’re not worth it," said Khrome.

---

Some time later, Gabriel’s eyes twitched open. He didn’t know how long he’d been unconscious, but his body felt sore all over.

And weak. Extremely weak.

It must be the after-effects of Blood Rush, he thought, adjusting his gaze.

The first thing he saw were three familiar faces—staring at him with concern.

Sophie, Lilly, and Alice.

"Phew, you’re finally awake," Sophie said in relief, helping him sit up.

’Everyone’s here...’ Gabriel’s gaze swept the chamber. He saw Khrome, Liam, and the two mages talking amongst themselves—and Scarlet, quietly staring at a massive golden door.

’Right. The Ant Queen is dead... that must be the reward room.’ His eyes lit up.

’I wonder what kind of treasure a Level 399 existence would leave behind...’
