Chapter 33: Farming Extraction Points
Chapter 33: Farming Extraction Points
Two armoured vehicles powered by dozens of monster cores drove noisily through the wilderness, raising a cloud of dust in their wake.
Gabriel sat silently, cleaning the hilt of his greatsword while Alice stared at him as if he was rare candy or something.
He had long noticed her gaze but ignored it. They were currently heading toward the ruin site, which was roughly a thousand meters away.
"It’ll most likely take a day and a half if the bus keeps running at 100 km per hour," Gabriel noted.
Of course, he also knew the time could be longer since they needed to rest.
Apart from Alice, he could feel the eyes of others scrutinizing him. Gabriel could tell they all wanted to converse with him but seemed to be holding back because of his emotionless face.
"So, tell me more about yourself," Alice struck up a conversation, sensing the awkwardness.
"There isn’t much to know about me," he replied without glancing up. He didn’t want to speak any further—not after knowing the nature of Alice’s talent.
A single slip of the tongue, and he might be forced to give out more than he intended.
Alice furrowed her brows. "Everyone has a story. I’m sure you have something to say too. Take me for example—I’m an Assassin-type Adventurer, the second daughter of Thomas Voss. My favorite person is that bitchy lady with the emotionless face in the other vehicle."
"That’s good to know," Gabriel said, showing no interest in the conversation. In fact, apart from the name Voss, he couldn’t even remember the rest of what she had said.
"Yes, she might be a bit robotic at times, but she’s actually very competent. That’s why my father trusts her more than me."
"But I don’t mind. He spoils me the most."
"Such a talkative brat," Lily mumbled from the driver’s seat.
"What class are you?" someone suddenly asked. "I bet someone who can defeat the Vice Leader must have quite the special class."
Gabriel froze and, for the first time, raised his head from what he was doing.
That question had drawn everyone’s attention, especially Liam’s.
"I’m a Warrior," Gabriel said.
Alice narrowed her eyes.
She could tell he was clearly lying.
But she respected his privacy. After all, classes were very important, and unless one was brave—or had a powerful overprotective father like her—it wasn’t advisable to go around revealing one’s class.
At that moment, the vehicle suddenly screeched to a halt, and the driver’s voice came through.
"A pack of wolves spotted! Someone should volunteer to deal with them!"
Gabriel rose to his feet and proceeded to climb out onto the roof. Before he did, he turned to the others.
"Although I won the spar against the Vice Leader, it was only because she unintentionally broke the rules of the spar."
"Agh! I knew it!" Liam exclaimed, slapping his lap. "It just didn’t make sense that a little runt like you defeated Scarlet!"
Gabriel ignored Liam and climbed out onto the roof of the vehicle.
The wind rushed past his face, causing his hair to hover in the air. About fifty meters ahead, he could see a pack of wolves—each roughly the size of two large dogs fused together—growling.
BANG!
Gabriel stomped the roof of the vehicle, and his body shot forward like a fired cannonball.
Meanwhile, inside the vehicle, everything trembled and tilted to the side as if it were about to flip over.
It was only thanks to the driver’s skill that the vehicle was brought back on course.
"Huh? What was that sound?"
"Did something ram into us just now?"
"Phew, that was close."
"Guys," Alice suddenly called out, her eyes fixed on the roof of the vehicle.
Everyone followed her gaze, and what they saw left them stunned.
Right there on the roof was a footprint—along with cracks.
Liam’s eyes shrank, and he felt his entire body tremble. Even he, a Level 43 Adventurer, wasn’t capable of leaving an imprint like that.
"Isn’t this vehicle made out of the shell of that super tough tortoise?"
"Yes," another replied. "To crack it, you’d need to repeatedly hit the same spot a couple hundred times just to leave a dent."
When the others heard this, they were even more speechless. From the footprint’s appearance, it was clear it had only taken a single stomp.
Just then, they heard the sound of fighting and explosions in the distance.
What they witnessed was a one-sided massacre being orchestrated by one man. Every single time his greatsword flashed through the air, a wolf fell.
The eyes of the group flashed with astonishment.
From the vehicle further behind, Scarlet narrowed her eyes on the figure dashing through the ranks of the monsters.
"Impressive, right?" Sophie, beside her, asked with a subtle smile beneath her veil.
"I expected this much from him," Scarlet said. "And my suspicion was right—he has indeed grown stronger once more."
Seeing the speed at which Gabriel moved and the monstrous precision he used to slay the monsters, Sophie couldn’t help but agree with Scarlet. "He’s faster and much stronger since the dungeon."
"Is this why you told us to keep an eye on him?" she asked, turning to Scarlet. "You knew he could grow stronger at a rapid pace?"
Scarlet didn’t respond immediately, her eyes still fixed on Gabriel’s figure. "At first, it was just a hunch. But now, I’m certain of it."
Her beautiful eyes flashed strangely as she added,
"At this pace, he’ll be as strong as a Hero-Rank in a year or two."
"In a year or two?!" Sophie exclaimed in disbelief.
"It could be more. People who grew rapidly like this are usually humbled during their class advancement."
"True, I’ve heard cases of people being stuck at level 50 just because they couldn’t fulfill their requirements," Sophie paused, then added.
After some time fighting, Gabriel had killed all the wolves, and the vehicles continued forward.
He remained standing on the roof of the bus, despite the intense speed it was moving at.
His posture was as straight as a sword, and he barely moved from his spot as he cut down any beast that lunged at them.
The journey continued unhindered, and Gabriel also farmed experience points and EP in the process.
