Chapter 50: 16. Subjectively none, objectively exists_3
Yuanlina, who was squatting beside the coffee table with sparkly eyes pondering what to eat, was ignored as Ashley took a seat next to Sakuragi Hitomi.
She glanced at the heart sticker on the candy jar and said,
"It was given to the President by a girl, his name is even written on it."
"What?!"
Yuanlina lifted her head like a fierce tiger, her eyes bursting with fervor as she gazed at the languid Yan Huan,
"Are you in love, President?!"
"Yuanlina, we have a meeting to start."
Sakuragi Hitomi timely interrupted her enthusiasm and stood up to retrieve some documents from the nearby desk.
"How could you?! Sakura, don’t you have any curiosity? What about you, Ashley? Who does the President have his eyes set on... Hey, why are you guys totally uninterested in this kind of stuff?! The student council is almost a gathering place of bachelors now; it’s all your fault!"
Sakuragi Hitomi, who had sat back down, didn’t respond but simply picked up her teacup, ready to drink.
Ashley took out her phone, started scrolling through short videos, and said,
"The President and the Vice President certainly won’t be short of suitors, but the President is too busy normally. There’s hardly any time, and probably no one he’s interested in; Vice President Sakuragi had said she would absolutely not date anyone upon joining the student council..."
"I have part-time jobs to do too, and student council and schoolwork are headache-inducing enough, let alone dating... As for Yahashi, isn’t he living harmoniously with his two-dimensional wives?"
Sakuragi Hitomi’s movement of drinking tea paused for a moment, while Yahashiki adjusted his glasses, adopting an "you’re absolutely right" expression.
Yuanlina, still not giving up, sneaked a look at Yan Huan and asked in a low voice,
"President, can you secretly tell me if you have someone you like? I promise I won’t tell anyone~"
Yan Huan yawned and said with a smile,
"Yeah, I like you, Yuanlina."
Sakuragi Hitomi continued drinking her tea, her slightly rippled reflection mirroring her blurred eyes.
Yuanlina’s face suddenly flushed red, and she waved her hands, hastily saying,
"No, no, no! I can’t be with the President. If it were to happen, I’d always worry about whether the handsome President would cheat... Ah, I’d definitely become depressed! And then if I got married and had kids, I’d spend every day in tears, I couldn’t live past twenty-five!"
Ashley rolled her eyes and retorted,
"You actually took it seriously, huh? What’s gotten into you? Thinking so far ahead..."
Hearing this, Yuanlina turned her head, looking at Yan Huan incredulously,
"President, are you joking with me?"
"Weren’t you the one joking first?"
Yan Huan spread his hands, no longer willing to deceive the naive Yuanlina,
"Just saying you won’t tell others, if I indeed had someone I liked and I told you, before even the first class started, all the chat groups your big mouth added would be flooded with the news."
"I..."
Yuanlina pouted, about to defend herself, but Yan Huan had already taken the documents handed over by Sakuragi Hitomi.
He glanced at them and became more serious,
"Alright, let’s start the meeting now, everyone please take a look at the relevant documents."
The documents were distributed, and Sakuragi Hitomi, who had already looked through them, merely sipped her tea and said,
"Actually, there are only three things. First, the results of last week’s start-of-semester exams will be out tomorrow, and they’re said to be quite a sight to behold."
"The exams results are out in just one weekend, as expected from the specially invited teachers from Dragon Country."
Yahashiki commented with a sneer.
Yan Huan, already accustomed to this, just gave instructions for work,
"The posting of results is still up to Yuanlina as before."
"Roger that!"
And Sakuragi Hitomi went on to say,
"The second matter is that the [Club Competition] is coming up soon. This is the second time our student council is organizing such a large event. There were some issues with the sports festival last semester, which left the school committee somewhat skeptical..."
"I object! Why should they be skeptical?"
Before Sakuragi Hitomi could finish, Secretary Yuanlina raised her hand to speak,
"Filling the swimming pool with cola for the swimming competition and the half-naked men’s basketball game were both results of a vote, although the school committee did not approve. But I think the five-kilometer teacher’s long-distance run was a reasonable event; it’s the deputy principal’s own problem for being pulled apart by the students!"
"Who asked you to put the deputy principal in the group with the Track and Field Club members..." Ashley always hit the nail on the head.
"He himself claimed he was an athlete in the opening speech, what’s wrong with letting him experience it a bit?!"
And Yan Huan glanced at the document and smiled at Yahashiki,
"We have two weeks before it starts anyway. For this week, Yahashi, you’ll finalize the budget first, and then Sakuragi and I will notify the various clubs. We’ll think about the specific event schedule later."
"OK, President."
The first two matters were notifications from the school, but the last document did not come from the school.
It was from the Education Department of Lin Gate.
Sakuragi Hitomi glanced at the beginning of that document: "Lin Gate on the Prevention of School Bullying..."
She immediately raised the document and asked the others,
"Do we have any issues with bullying at our school?"
Yuanlina, that dummy, shook her head immediately and said,
"Nope, I feel like everyone is very kind, and there has never been any fighting among the students."
"Bullying isn’t just about physical fights, you know?"
Yahashiki glared at Yuanlina and said,
"Physical fighting is already quite severe and the most obvious to manage. The kind we should really worry about is various kinds of covert insults, slander, exclusion, and oppression. These are hard to define, and you wouldn’t get answers by simply directly asking the parties involved..."
