Cecilia suddenly appeared. She had stayed here with Emma last night to give Elena some peace of mind.

She walked over to Elena and carefully draped a shawl over her. "Auntie, just leave it to me. Don’t worry."

Mary glanced at her disdainfully and said, "Do you even know what it means to invest? If I gave you money, you would probably use it just to buy a couple of cans of baby formula. Do you understand what investing even is?"

Elena also tried to persuade Cecilia, "Cecilia, you really shouldn’t trouble yourself with this. Just enjoy a happy life with Emma."

Cecilia didn’t reply but instead opened her phone and showed Elena the stock page. It showed that her investment of three million yesterday had already gone up to three hundred and ten thousand today! In one night, it had increased by a full one hundred thousand!

Elena opened her mouth wide in astonishment. Meanwhile, Mary was also just as shocked as she looked over. "This... this is impossible!"

Cecilia took back her phone and thought for a moment before speaking, "The government can’t monopolize the beauty industry, much less by the Anderson family. In Star City, the only possible monopoly you could achieve would be in a collaboration with the Lawrence family. Their business spans globally and excels in every aspect, but Mrs. Brut hasn’t announced any partnership with the Lawrence family. This only means one thing."

Mary was puzzled. "What thing?"

"It means the Lawrence family had rejected her. Whether it’s due to market trends, quality, or future prospects, they have turned her down, so this business can’t succeed."

As she said that, Cecilia realized she was actually praising Steven in front of outsiders. But honestly speaking, he truly was exceptionally capable in the business world.

"If you don’t believe me, you can ask Mr. Lawrence," she continued.

Elena nodded in agreement. "Cecilia has a valid point. She’s close to Mr. Lawrence and knows him quite well, so what she says should be true."

Cecilia made a questioning face. Since when was she close to Steven? Moreover, she didn’t even know him that well...

Well, perhaps she did know a little, but that was mainly for Alex’s sake. It was just like what they said back then: know your enemy and you will emerge victorious a hundred times.

Mary still had her doubts, but she couldn’t help feeling like Cecilia’s words held some truth. After thinking it over, she turned and left.

In the car, she instructed the driver, "To Lawrence Group."

The car drove all the way to Lawrence Group’s building. After identifying herself at the reception, Zane’s voice came through the phone. "Let her come up."

Steven initially didn’t want Mary to come up. Although Madam Marianne got along well with Elena, he never quite valued Mary. It wasn’t because she was Elena and James’ adopted daughter, but because of the calculating look she had toward the couple. A seasoned businessman like Steven could discern that gaze at a glance.

However, he still held respect for Elena. Moreover, she was related by blood to Cecilia, which was why he ultimately chose to give Mary the benefit of the doubt.

Mary took the elevator straight to the top-floor executive office, astonished at the height of the office when she entered.

The entire office had three walls of floor-to-ceiling windows, offering a view of the entirety of Star City.

Steven sat at his desk, his exquisitely-tailored suit complementing the gray desk, cabinets, and computer, exuding an air of someone hard to approach.

Mary finally understood why some people trembled with fear upon meeting him.

She knew about him in her younger days, but Elena never took her to the Lawrence household as everyone there, except for Madam Marianne, was pretty difficult to deal with. She wasn’t keen on going, so she never did.

Her impression of Steven was limited to the occasional sighting at a family gathering.

Today was her first time facing him so closely as an individual.

Remaining courteous, Steven signaled Zane to pour Mary a cup of coffee. "Aunt Mary, is there something you need?"

Mary didn’t hold back and asked directly, "I heard you turned down the Anderson family’s cosmetic monopoly project?"
