Glamour and Sass: A Rejected Bride's Revenge
Chapter 41: Save Great Grandma

Chapter 41: Save Great Grandma

Upon hearing the noise, Steven quickly stood up and put on his coat, ready to go to the hospital.

Watching Steven leave in a hurry, Cecilia felt a bit worried. Emma, unaware of the situation outside the car, looked at Cecilia questioningly.

Cecilia paused for a moment, then turned to Edwin. She asked him to take Emma back to the hotel, thinking she wouldn’t return until much later.

After sending Emma off, she went back to the Lawrences. She happened to see Ethan, who was holding Alex, preparing to go to the hospital.

"What happened?"

Alex insisted on going with Ethan after hearing what happened in Marianne’s ward, leaving Ethan with no choice but to take him along.

Seated in the back, Alex wore a mask and hat, filled with anxiety.

"Uncle Ethan, hurry up, I don’t want anything to happen to Great Grandma!"

For some reason, hearing his tearful voice made Cecilia’s heart ache. Thinking how she had once promised Steven to meet Marianne—a promise she had yet to keep—she decided it was finally time to do the right thing and meet her.

She opened the passenger seat door and got in.

Ethan was surprised as he asked, "Miss Morrison, what are you doing?"

She quickly buckled her seatbelt. "My friend is Madam Marianne’s doctor. It might help out more if I talk to him; let’s go."

Ethan felt touched, thinking Cecilia was not as cruel and conniving as the rumors from Zane suggested.

Now, he had unofficially declared Cecilia as his dearest sister-in-law.

The car sped all the way to the hospital.

Inside the ward, Nathan was arguing with Evan.

"My own mother is the one lying there, you know?! I’m her only son now, and I have the right to make decisions for her!"

Evan stood in front of Marianne’s bed.

"The patient is not in a critical state yet, you can’t do this!"

While he had always boasted about his medical skills being second to none, arguing about these types of matters wasn’t his forte at all.

"Step aside, you foreign devil! Mind your own business!"

"How about I handle this?"

Steven appeared just in time, forcefully pushing Nathan aside, who was about to use Marianne’s finger for a fingerprint.

Nathan steadied his footing, pointing at Steven’s nose. "You!"

Steven placed Marianne’s hand back under the cover, giving Nathan and Tony a cold glare.

Tony stepped forward. "I told you, I’ve already consulted with an expert. Grandma won’t make it much longer; since Dad is her only son, he should inherit all of her assets!"

Steven immediately understood their intentions—they were waiting for Marianne to pass away so they could take over her estate. Since she held 10% of the Lawrence Group’s shares, if they inherited them...

Steven roughly calculated in his mind. Nathan and Tony’s shares, combined with those from the other shareholders supporting him, accumulated to 39%. Adding Marianne’s 10% would give them 49%, slightly surpassing Steven’s shares.

With this, Tony would seamlessly become Lawrence Group’s new president.

What a lousy trick.

He gazed at the two before him, whose eyes were only filled with profit, and felt a murderous intent rise.

If it wasn’t for Marianne showering Tony with affection, he would have dealt with them long ago.

"Uncle, you truly have some impressive methods. But with Grandma still being alive, how could you be so impatient?"

Nathan fell silent, actually gambling on the chance that he wouldn’t lose. Rumors on the street said that Marianne hadn’t yet set up a will, so he would be the first in line to inherit her fortune as the only son. He was quite sure he would profit massively from this.

Given her declining condition, she could pass away at any moment. Once she did, knowing her character, there was a chance a will could surface anytime that excluded his share, and he would face a great loss.

Thus, he wanted to strike while the iron was hot and get Marianne to leave her fingerprint on the share transfer agreement while she was still alive.

"Enough with the pointless talk. I’m Mom’s only son now, and with her unable to do anything right now, I’m entitled to manage her assets." He waved the share transfer agreement in his hand.

Steven snatched the share transfer agreement from Nathan’s hand, tearing it to pieces.

Then, he threw the paper shreds onto Tony’s face with force.

"As long as I’m still alive, and as long as Grandma is still breathing, you have no say in the Lawrence family!"

Tony wanted to argue, but Nathan stopped him.

"Fine, we’ll see how long the old lady holds on. We have plenty of time, so this moment doesn’t matter.

"Eventually, I will be the one who gets her shares; the document will clearly state everything and show who the real owner of Lawrence Group is!"

Just as he finished speaking, Ethan’s voice came through.

"Oh, really?"

Ethan walked in while carrying Alex, with Cecilia following behind him.

"Uncle, don’t forget that I own 3% of the shares, too."

Luckily, the hotel under his name was still in good condition, and it now could serve a significant purpose.

He put Alex down, looking at Steven.

"Big Brother, I voluntarily transfer my shares to you. This way, no one can replace you."

For once, Steven felt like Ethan was useful.

He nodded, noticing Cecilia discussing something with Evan at the entrance from the corner of his eye.

‘Why is she here? Could it be related to what I proposed earlier...’

Steven felt a momentary stir in his heart.

Tony glanced at this unexpected intruder, Ethan, feeling furious.

He redirected his frustration toward Alex again.

Alex was leaning over Marianne, softly calling out to her.

"So what if we can’t compete over the shares? Let me tell you, my wife is pregnant. Once my child is born, he’ll be the Lawrence family’s next heir!"

"I might not understand the Lawrence Group’s rules, but as for the family rules, I do know that the heir is always taken from the younger generation. Once a newer generation is born, they will be the rightful heir.

"Steven, you already took the lead in this generation, but the next one will be my child, not this illegitimate child who doesn’t even have a mother!"

Upon hearing that, Steven struck Tony so hard that two of his teeth were directly knocked out.

Ethan clicked his tongue.

Did he actually have the guts to say that? Calling Alex an illegitimate child—wasn’t he practically begging for trouble?

"Shut your filthy mouth, or I’ll make sure you can’t ever talk again."

Tony spat out the blood in his mouth. He didn’t want to back down, but he did not dare to say another word.

Seeing Steven’s fierce demeanor, Cecilia suddenly found his behavior similar to her own whenever she was protecting Emma.

Looking at Alex, she thought about how this little one, born into a prestigious family, still had to bear so much.

For a moment, she even envisioned Alex as Emma.

As she was deep in thought, she did not even notice a teary-eyed Alex approaching her.

Alex overheard Cecilia and Evan’s conversation. Evan mentioned that he had not fully overcome the issues in throat cancer, and Marianne was hanging by a thread; she might even never wake up.

His tears welled up immediately, unable to understand the medical jargon and only hoping Marianne would wake up.

He remembered her saying before that listening to Riane’s songs made her want to eat and laugh.

Moreover, Steven had also said before that Marianne would get better if she saw Riane.

He didn’t understand exaggerated expressions; he simply wished, with all his heart, that this would help Marianne leave the hospital and play with him like she used to.

So, he couldn’t care about anything else and quickly grabbed Cecilia’s hand.

"Mommy, please save Great Grandma!"
