Chapter 89: Finding a Guide
Chapter 89: Finding a Guide
Three-star hunters are crucial figures within the Hunter Guild, wielding enough influence to hold positions across its various branches. They are typically formidable, boasting strengths akin to those of second-rank limit-breakers.
Four-star hunters are influential figures who wield complete control over operations, finances, and resources within the guild. They are masters of numerous guild branches throughout Rion. In terms of individual prowess, most are formidable, having achieved the status of third-rank limit-breakers.
Five-star hunters are revered elders or powerhouses within the guild, commanding immense authority to access the guild’s extensive resources for acquiring rare and elusive items. They operate beyond conventional rules and intervene only in critical and dire circumstances.
Few individuals in the Hunter guild attain such status, as it demands not only exceptional strength but also significant contributions to be promoted to Elder. Additionally, their strength must at least reach the level of fourth-rank limit-breakers.
Lastly, the six-star hunter is the pinnacle of strength and authority within the Hunter Guild. Only a Six-Star hunter can ascend to the position of guildmaster, making them the most authoritative figure in the entire organization.
The total number of six-star hunters in the Hunter Guild is unknown, but thirty-three known individuals hold this rank. Each of them oversees the activities of hunters within their respective regions.
Without question, only those who have achieved the strength of fifth-rank limit-breaker sages can ascend to the esteemed rank of six-star hunter.
After receiving his hunter ID, Apollo headed towards the job description board, which was teeming with hundreds of other hunters seeking job opportunities.
For many hunters, securing a job and completing it before others can be challenging.
Typically, guilds grant access to three individuals or groups, depending on the job, to undertake the same task. The first individual or group to complete the job receives the reward.
So, becoming a successful and renowned hunter isn’t as simple as joining and expecting to earn a hefty sum. It demands strength and cunning to rise in the ranks and establish oneself in the profession.
And now he was looking for a job not for money or increasing fame as a hunter but because he needed to hone his swordsmanship.
Master Aaron tasked him with facing numerous enemies using only his basic sword skills, prompting him to search for a hunting job providing ample combat opportunities.
Human opponents were skilled adversaries, but finding them from nowhere was difficult, as he couldn’t randomly attack others. Therefore, he decided to test his sword against wild, ferocious beasts instead.
With that in mind, Apollo began scanning the bulletin board, which was crowded with thousands of job descriptions. After a quick survey, he located the section designated for two-star hunters.
Hunters can undertake tasks one star higher than their current rank, although it’s uncommon for one-star hunters to possess significant strength. Not everyone joins the hunter guild immediately upon gaining the ability to wield life energy and open their prana circuit.
Many young talents join later when their strength has grown stronger.
So there wouldn’t be any fuss or trash talk like "you’re weak" or other nonsensical drama that often happens in anime.
There were fewer jobs available, with less competition, as these jobs required a certain level of strength and ability to undertake.
After carefully perusing the jobs in this section, he finally came across a task that seemed like a good training session.
The task involved hunting Earth Bison to obtain their horns, which were prized materials used in crafting potions, weapons, and armour due to their exquisite quality.
He decided to take on the job because Earth Bison travelled in groups and were renowned for their thick earth-armoured skin. Their defence was so formidable that even first-rank limit breakers couldn’t harm them.
Even first-rank limit-breakers needed to hunt Earth Bison in groups, and it took hours just to bring down a single one of them.
With their powerful defence, they will be good opponents for him to train in his basic swordsmanship.
He approached the counter, where this time a beautiful lady was seated, and requested her authorization to take on this job.
The lady stole a few glances at him, charmed by his handsome face, before swiftly handing him a small receipt to accept the job.
Afterwards, he quietly left the hunter guild and sought out a guide, knowing he might not be able to locate a group of Earth Bison on his own in such a vast forest.
There were quite a few guides in Hunter City who had lived and survived in the dangerous jungles of the Thousand Mountains Forest.
They might not have been the strongest, but they knew their way around the forest. Following his master’s instructions, he went to the designated place to find his guide.
Apollo went to a small store situated not in the city centre but on the outer corner of the city. It appeared to specialize in selling herbs and various natural medicines.
He entered the shop and, seeing no one, called out, "Hello, is there anyone here?"
A few moments later, a young guy appeared and looked at him, asking, "Sir, what do you need?"
"I don’t need anything, but someone sent me here to find a good guide who knows well about the Thousand Mountain Forest," Apollo calmly said to the young man, who appeared to be in his early twenties.
"Ah! Guide."
The young man in the shop seemed a bit surprised to hear that Apollo had come there to find a guide.
"There is no guide here; please leave." The young man asked him to leave.
This was unexpected, as his master had assured him he would find a great guide here. Unable to contain his surprise, Apollo repeated himself.
"My master sent me here; he said this place has the best guides."
"No, we’re not. Please leave," the young guy from the shop insisted, claiming there were no guides available. Just as Apollo was about to leave, a voice from inside the shop interrupted.
"Stop, who is your master?" an old man came out from inside the shop and asked.
"My master’s name is Aaron, Swordmaster Aaron."
Apollo calmly spoke, looking at the old man, who, though appearing at the peak of the mortal stage with nine prana circuits open, seemed to have little time left to live.
"Mr. Aaron, so you are his apprentice. Time sure does pass by; now even Mr. Aaron has taken on an apprentice."
"Sigh!"
The old man sighed, seemingly lost in memories and feeling melancholic, and said.
"As you can see, I am old now and cannot guide you in the forest," the old man admitted with a touch of regret.
Hearing this, Apollo couldn’t help but feel disheartened. It seemed his master had overlooked the passage of time; typically, those who didn’t break their limits could only live seventy or eighty years, like most ordinary humans.
And the old man in front of him had surpassed eighty years; that’s why he had started to become weak.
But just as he was thinking he was in trouble and wondering where he could find a good guide at such a time, the old man spoke again.
"Although I cannot be your guide, my grandson can guide you in the Thousand Mountain Forests," the old man offered.
"And don’t underestimate him because of his age; he has been navigating the forests since a very young age. The Thousand Mountain Forests are almost like his second home now, and he might even guide you better than I could," the old guide explained confidently.
Hearing this, Apollo’s eyes glowed with interest as he glanced at the young man who had first appeared.
His aura wasn’t strong, comparable to that of someone who had opened six or seven prana circuits. While this strength was unremarkable to Apollo, what he sought from him was not physical prowess but rather a deep understanding and knowledge of the Thousand Mountain Forest and its beasts.
"Do you know about Earth Bison?" Apollo asked, looking intently at the young man.
The grandson looked at his old grandfather, who nodded his head in assurance.
"Yes, they are a group of beasts with fierce power and defence. Not many dare mess with them," the grandson answered confidently.
"So, can you lead me to their herd in the Thousand Mountain Forest?" Apollo asked, getting to the main question.
Hearing this, the grandson of the old guide was surprised. The Earth Bison were not easy targets; many strong hunters couldn’t hunt them due to their formidable strength and unbreakable defence. Yet, this young boy, who seemed to be only in his teens, was being asked to lead him to the Earth Bison herd.
He appeared solemn, indicating he wasn’t joking. It was also possible that he had a group of soldiers or guards at his disposal, and with their help, the young boy could indeed hunt the Earth Bison.
"Yes, I can," he answered with clear confidence.
Hearing this Apollo smiled and looked at the old guide who had a smile on his face.
