Chapter 244: Abyssal Demons

"I am Lyeria, an information broker of this branch. It is our honour to assist you. Please, follow me to a private chamber where we can discuss your needs in comfort and privacy."

Apollo gave a slight nod, his expression unreadable. Together with Serena, he followed Lyeria through a corridor that seemed to stretch infinitely before collapsing into a compact space. The transition was dizzying, but neither Apollo nor Serena showed any signs of discomfort.

The chamber was vast yet intimate, the walls shimmering with a soft, silver light that felt calming. At the centre was a circular table with chairs that seemed to adjust themselves automatically to the dimensions of the one sitting.

She gestured for them to sit and took her place across from them. She placed a small device on the table, which projected a holographic interface in midair. Symbols and charts danced across the screen.

Lyeria’s fingers glided over the interface. "Your request is comprehensive. The cost will depend on the level of detail you require. But being the holder of a purple card, I assume payment won’t be an issue."

Serena’s lips curled into a faint smirk, and Apollo said nothing, letting the unspoken assurance hang in the air. Lyeria continued, her tone professional.

This is the home to countless factions and individuals vying for dominance.

She paused, bringing up a holographic map of the city divided into distinct regions.

"The Station is controlled by four primary factions: the Ecliptic Alliance, the Thorned Sanctuary, the Crimson Dominion Transportation, and the Arcane Keepers. Each dominates a sector and specialises in unique areas, from trade to military might.

She shifted the projection, highlighting several key points.

"As for opportunities, the Soul Trials are among the most prestigious events. Participation not only brings fame but grants access to resources and restricted areas."

"The Gateway Ruins Portal, located just outside the station, are another source of intrigue, rumoured to hold remnants of ancient civilisations and technologies. Entry, however, requires special keys, often auctioned in the Hundred Alliance Auction House."

Apollo absorbed the information, and his mind was already working to prioritise his objectives. Serena remained silent, standing behind him. She also didn’t know much about this place, as she never even bothered to stay here. Only a few times did she come here to take the long-distance portal and nothing else.

"What about the troubles that needed to be careful of?" Apollo asked his tone even but with an edge that demanded complete answers.

She thought for a fraction of a second before answering. "The place is a web of relation. Many operate in the shadows—assassins, rogue warriors, and rogue factions not aligned with the major powers."

"Additionally, for the last hundred years, the Abyss Demons suddenly started to appear within the station, occasionally devouring entire districts of people without warning. Shocking the warriors as a reminder that not even the powerful are truly safe anywhere."

Apollo’s eyes narrowed slightly at the mention of the Abyss Demons. The idea of a sudden, unpredictable threat that could wipe out entire districts stirred both curiosity and caution in him. His gaze flicked to Serena, who also seemed a bit surprised hearing about Abyss Demons.

"Abyss Demons?" Apollo’s voice was calm, but it was filled with curiosity.

The Void Mansion’s broker nodded, her expression serious. "Yes. They are an enigma even among the ancient powers of the universe. For the last hundred years, sporadic appearances of these creatures have plagued the station. No one knows how or why they appeared, but when they do, chaos follows."

"Because of their appearance, many collectors and hunters from the universe have come to Astral Void Station, as Abyss Demons are rare creatures that usually can only be found in the deep Abyssal Dimensions where even true gods don’t easily venture."

"Hence, the appearance of such a rare creature that is full of treasure attracted many who wanted to get their hands on it."

Apollo’s brow arched slightly at the mention of hunters and collectors flocking to the station. The intrigue surrounding Abyss Demons deepened.

"Treasure?" Apollo’s voice carried a subtle edge of intrigue. "What exactly makes them so valuable?"

The Void Mansion broker, Lyeria, clasped her hands before her, her tone steady as she explained. "Abyss Demons are not merely beings of destruction; their bodies are brimming with treasures coveted by warriors, alchemists, and blacksmiths alike."

"For instance, their blood is a prized alchemical ingredient, used to forge rare potions or enhance certain paths of cultivation. The bones or scales can be used to make divine armour or powerful killing weapons."

"But all of this is nothing compared to their heart, which hides not only the secret of one of the supreme laws, ’Law of Destruction,’ but it can also be used to awaken the innate ability of Abyssal Demons."

"Awakening innate divine ability can make one almost invincible in the same ranks below the True Gods. It is even helpful in breaking through True God rank; hence countless figures in the universe are madly trying to get it."

Apollo’s eyes narrowed as he absorbed Lyeria’s words, his thoughts churning with the possibilities. The allure of the Abyss Demon’s heart was undeniable, and its connection to the supreme Law of Destruction made it even more intriguing.

The idea of awakening an innate divine ability—something capable of making one nearly invincible against those of the same rank—stirred a faint excitement within him.

Although even without innate divine ability, he was invincible, he remembered in his Demon God form he also seemed to have a divine ability that was very strong. Could it have some relation with it, though he kept thinking his expression remained usual?

Lyeria continued, her voice tinged with a mix of awe and caution. "However, the heart is also the most dangerous part to extract. The Abyss Demon’s essence is concentrated within it, and mishandling it could lead to catastrophic backlash, corrupting or even killing the unprepared. So it wasn’t easy even if you found it."

"It’s not just a treasure that anybody can have; it’s a gamble with one’s life," she remarked.

Apollo’s lips curved into a faint smile. "True treasures often are." He turned his gaze back to Lyeria.

"Is anything known about the strength of the Abyssal demons that appeared or where they are hiding?" He asked.

Lyeria nodded slightly, her expression turning grave. "Their strength varies greatly, Sir, which makes them even more unpredictable. The weaker Abyss Demons that have appeared on the station are comparable to Half-Gods, but there have been reports of stronger ones exceeding the level of Void Gods."

"Some of these demons possess unique abilities that defy conventional combat logic, and their regenerative capacities make them even harder to kill."

She paused before continuing, "As for where they are hiding, it’s not entirely clear. They seem to appear in random regions so far without any particular pattern."

"But they seemed to have attacked Arcane Keepers members a few times, making it feel like they might have something to do with their appearance."

Apollo’s gaze turned thoughtful at Lyeria’s words. "The Arcane Keepers? Interesting. What do we know about their involvement, or why they might be targeted?"

Lyeria hesitated, choosing her words carefully. "The Arcane Keepers are one of the four primary factions controlling the station. Their focus lies in the study of ancient runes, mystical artifacts, and dimensional anomalies. They’ve been particularly active in researching the Abyssal Dimensions back a thousand years ago."

She looked at Apollo and carefully said. "Some suspect they’ve uncovered something significant related to the Abyss Demons, perhaps a relic or a fragment of knowledge that draws the creatures to them. However, the Arcane Keepers remain tight-lipped, denying any connection."

His eyes narrowed. "Convenient," he said with a calm voice. "Did the other force let it go, and didn’t it do anything?"

Lyeria nodded in agreement. "Many share that sentiment and want to challenge their authority, but the Arcane Keepers are a powerful faction. Few dare to challenge their authority or methods outright."

"Their members have suffered losses from the demons, yet they continue their work undeterred, fuelling suspicions further."

Apollo’s lips curved into a slight smirk. "If they are hiding something, it won’t remain hidden forever."

He at first wasn’t much interested in staying here for much time, but now hearing about Abyss Demons, he was interested as he felt he had some connection and wanted to see what innate divine abilities they had that made them invincible in the same ranks.

Turning his attention back to Lyeria, Apollo’s voice was calm but commanding. "Ensure I have access to detailed information about the Arcane Keepers’ recent movements, particularly their recent activities. And find out if anyone has managed to secure a relic or artifact linked to the demons."

"And don’t worry, you won’t receive small payments for everything you can find."

Lyeria bowed deeply. "I’ll see to it immediately, Sir. Don’t worry; there isn’t anything that Void Mansion cannot find."

As they left the Void Mansion, Apollo turned to Serena. "It seems our first steps in Astral Void Station will be more eventful than expected. Let’s see if the Arcane Keepers have unwittingly set the stage for something... grand."
