Chapter 204: Strong enemy appeared

An arrow vanished from his bow, its trajectory slicing through space. Hundreds of meters away, it materialized behind the leading Greyrock pursuer and seemed to pierce his spine before he even realized what was happening. The man staggered mouth agape, and then collapsed—teleported out of the trial.

The second Greyrock pursuer halted in shock, glancing around wildly, his senses on high alert.

"Fuck! What just happened?" He could understand what happened to his brother and how he was eliminated. With a grave expression, he started to look around.

Even Marianne’s speed decreased, but she didn’t stop, even though now she should be able to handle the one who is still here, not knowing who the enemy did that.

But before the second Greyrock clan member could react—

Szzz—whoosh!

Another cold arrow materialized from thin air, burying itself deep into his chest. The man gasped, clutching the wound as his token flashed, and in the next moment, he too was gone.

Marianne froze mid-stride, her eyes wide as she saw both of her pursuers vanish into glowing particles. For a moment, confusion clouded her features—then realization dawned. She scanned the terrain, and though she couldn’t see Apollo, something told her it was him.

Because she cannot feel anyone other than him would be able to do something this bizarre and would help him. Only the mysterious Apollo seems to fit the description; nobody else.

A soft smile played across her lips, and she whispered under her breath, "Thank you." Eve, if she wasn’t sure it was Apollo, she had to thank the mysterious person who helped her.

Up on the mountain, Apollo lowered his bow with a calm expression, watching his two arrows how easily he dealt with two fourth-rank grandmasters. Let him feel his archery was getting better and better, closing to his ideal realm.

The air shimmered briefly, and in the next heartbeat, Apollo appeared a few meters away from Marianne. She blinked, startled but not entirely surprised. Only someone with mastery over space—or rare laws like shadow or darkness—could move so silently and swiftly.

"Apollo, thanks; if it wasn’t for you, I have to leave this place." She thanked him again and smiled, looking at him, feeling relieved and shocked by his strength.

Her tone was a mix of relief and awe. She knew Apollo was strong, but seeing him in action like this, defeating enemies without even them understanding how and when, in a flash of a second, was something else entirely.

Apollo gave a small nod, acknowledging her gratitude without much fanfare.

"Let’s go," he said quietly, his tone as calm as ever.

With that said, he started to move, and Marianne nodding her head quickly followed him.

This was only the beginning of the final day, and Apollo knew that the real battle would come soon enough—when participants turned on each other with everything they had left. Hopefully, he would see something exciting.

They arrived at the summit, and Marianne froze in disbelief.

Before her lay an almost surreal sight—a small campfire crackling softly beside a neat table and chair, laden with a selection of fresh fruits and perfectly barbequed meat. It looked more like a leisurely picnic than a staging point in the middle of a brutal, high-stakes competition.

"This...?" Marianne whispered, her voice laced with confusion as she tried to process the scene.

Apollo, seated casually in the lonely chair, didn’t even glance her way. With one hand, he speared a piece of meat and brought it to his mouth, chewing thoughtfully. His bow rested nearby, unstrung, as if this were nothing more than a break from a pleasant afternoon stroll.

The sight baffled her. The battlefield below them raged with desperate fighters clawing for victory, while Apollo acted as though he was on a scenic retreat.

He naturally noticed this, but he didn’t care about her thoughts, as he didn’t really need to fight hard; it was a complete archery practice for him, where he could face danger; if anyone could survive a single arrow, that already would be a great feat.

Marianne struggled to keep up with his mindset. She knew Apollo was different, but seeing this level of nonchalance in the middle of the trial was something entirely different.

"You’re... not worried at all?" she asked, her brow furrowed as she tried to make sense of his attitude.

Apollo finally looked at her, his expression serene, as though he were explaining something obvious. "Why should I be?"

Marianne was left speechless. There was no arrogance in his tone—only calm certainty.

"Eat if you want," he added casually, gesturing toward the food. "It’s still a long day ahead."

Marianne could only stare at him, caught between disbelief and admiration. Despite everything, a small smile tugged at her lips.

And somehow, sitting beside him at the top of that mountain, with chaos unfolding beneath them, she felt strangely... safe.

Time seems to pass, as Apollo from time to time, will fire an arrow in the sky and his points will increase, Marianne to which she can only feel shocked and accept it.

But suddenly he stopped and seemed to look in one direction with interest.

"What is it?" Marianne asked, curious.

Apollo didn’t respond immediately. Instead, he stood and gestured for her to follow. Intrigued, Marianne trailed behind him as they descended the mountain. His movements were smooth and deliberate as if he already knew where they needed to be.

After some time, they arrived at the edge of a cliff, where the sight below captured Marianne’s breath—a devastating battle raged between two groups of participants.

Bang! Bang!...

Explosions rocked the terrain, sending debris flying. One group seems to have more than a dozen people, while the other group only has four, but it still seems the dozens of people were the ones under pressure.

Especially the leading guy of the small group of four. Who seems to have covered a black and very unique aura, making him look strong and mysterious.

His name is Esher, and he is also one of the dark horses that appeared suddenly and shocked the crowd in the first round, hailing from a weak clan. Not only that, the other three weren’t weak but were strong saints, which was surprising as they seemed to have hidden their strength in the first round.

"That aura..." Marianne whispered, her voice barely audible. "It’s so... strange."

Apollo’s gaze remained steady, following Asher’s every move. "Interesting." He looked carefully at the dark aura around him with curiosity. This aura is the reason why he came close to the group because it was the aura of the unique aura of darkness law.

Marianne furrowed her brow, still processing. "Hiding saint-level strength..."

The larger group was crumbling. Their numbers meant little against the relentless assault from Asher and his companions. Each time one of the dozen tried to mount a counterattack, they were met with a devastating attack.

Suddenly, Asher’s black aura surged violently. With a subtle gesture, a thick veil of darkness spread like a smothering fog, consuming half of the opposing group in an instant. The shadowy mist clung to them, and before they could even comprehend what was happening, their tokens activated, and they were teleported out of the trial in bursts of light.

Marianne’s heart skipped a beat as she witnessed the devastating display. She glanced at Apollo, sensing his intrigue. "You seem... interested."

Apollo’s lips curled into a faint smile. "It’s rare to find someone like him—someone who understands the law of darkness."

"What! Law of darkness." She looked at Asher with a shocked expression. Her gaze snapped back to Asher, her expression a mixture of disbelief and awe.

"Nothing is impossible," Apollo corrected softly, "just rare."

Asher moved gracefully on the battlefield, the darkness responding to him as if it were alive—an extension of his will. His opponents, now halved in number, faltered under the crushing pressure. The black mist encircling him seemed to blur the line between reality and illusion, leaving his enemies lost and vulnerable.

"That aura..." Marianne whispered in awe. "It’s like the night itself fights for him."

He looked at the weird aura of darkness with interest, as the law of darkness is very rare, just like his death or space law.

Its ability is also a bit mysterious; it also seems to have a similar property of devouring elements and also has strong influences on the user’s mind.

Just as Asher eliminated the group, his cold voice cut through the dissipating silence.

"You two have been watching long enough," he said, his sharp gaze locking onto the area where Apollo and Marianne stood concealed. "When are you going to come out?"

Marianne tensed in surprise, but Apollo remained perfectly calm.

In a seamless motion, Apollo stepped forward from the shadows, his presence calm yet imposing, as if he had nothing to fear. Marianne followed hesitantly, glancing nervously between the two powerful figures.

Asher’s dark aura writhed, subtly reacting to Apollo’s presence. His gaze, sharp as a blade, didn’t waver as he studied the newcomer. There was no fear in his eyes—only curiosity and caution.
