Chapter 142: Master Aaron’s Breakthrough
Immediately, three thousand Creation points disappeared from his total, and the information about the mysterious spell model appeared in his mind. For a second, Apollo remained still with his eyes closed. A moment later, he opened them, filled with excitement.
"Oh, so spell models are built like this," Apollo murmured. As the extensive information about the spell and its model appeared in his mind when he bought it, he began to understand how the spell model was constructed in his mind and how different it was from the Prana skills of a warrior.
Spells are different from the usual warrior skills. For his life force skills, it’s a matter of controlling the Prana circuit and life force through instinct to bring out the maximum power of the skills. They don’t require preparation or any additional components, but it’s a bit different for spells.
Spells require spell models, which need to be engraved on their foundation runes to bring out the strongest power of the spells. The stronger the foundation rune, the more complex and powerful the spell that could be engraved upon it.
Because of this, spells are generally stronger than a warrior’s skills of the same level. But, of course, that’s not true for everyone—like his Ice Life Force, which is different from other life forces and many times stronger, so he wouldn’t lose to any mage.
Mages can cast spells without engraving the spell model on their foundation runes, but this usually requires more concentration and casting time. The spell model acts like code that typically needs time to write. However, as a mage’s spiritual strength increases and with practice, creating spell models for simpler or weaker spells becomes instantaneous, so in later stages, this isn’t a problem.
But there are also limitations. Most mages can only engrave one spell on their foundation rune, and it must be within their limits—for example, a first-rank mage cannot directly engrave a forbidden spell on their foundation rune. The spell must be something that both the mage and their foundation rune can support.
Typically, a first-rank mage can only support low-level spells, but if they are a genius, they might be able to engrave a middle-grade spell. Once engraved, low-level spells are strengthened and can become more powerful than middle-grade spells.
That’s why having a good meditation technique is crucial for mages to build their foundation rune effectively.
And his Primal Cosmos Meditation Technique is among the best, with unprecedented mysteries. He built his foundation rune using ten Mind Blocks, making it far superior to those of other mages and making him countless times stronger than other mages.
First, he can engrave three spells on his single rune without worrying about affinity problems. Second, as a new first-rank elementary mage, he can already engrave high-grade spells.
Apollo couldn’t help but wonder how powerful his high-grade spells would become after he engraved them and had them strengthened by his unparalleled foundation rune.
He should be able to defeat most fourth-rank grandmasters immediately, but after the fourth rank, power scaling becomes much more difficult. At that level, laws and mysteries play the most important roles.
The further he advanced, the more crucial his comprehension of laws and mysteries became. Those with weak comprehension might still fall to his might, but facing a master with a deep understanding of these higher truths would be an entirely different battle, one that even his current strength might not be able to overcome.
Apollo calmed down and began to study the mysterious spell model of the Blink spell. The spell model was so intricate that it was difficult to understand, even for Apollo, who possessed unimaginable comprehension talent. It was like a tangle of countless wires, and he needed to arrange them one by one in order.
Even for him, it took half an hour just to gain a preliminary understanding of the entire spell model. To fully visualize the spell model and cast it, it seemed like it would take a day or two.
"This spell is really difficult, but it’s fascinating," he thought, not feeling discouraged but rather captivated by the structure and mysteries of the spell. He had already decided that this would be the first spell he would engrave on his foundation rune.
Even though it was a middle-grade spell, it was a rare space spell with the potential to grow, many times better than any other high-grade spells. He couldn’t help but look forward to how much more effective it would become after he fully engraved it.
He forgot everything else and became completely absorbed in understanding the spell model. Thanks to his deep concentration, within twelve hours, he had grasped most of the spell model and was ready to try it out.
He stepped out of his room and went to the training hall, with its large open space. Taking a deep breath, his aura immediately became calm and serene, like the harmony between heaven and earth.
In his mind, spiritual energy surged forth, and a large amount of mana drained from his foundation rune, as he began to visualize the spell model.
Mysterious spiritual pathways were created, and instantly, the space around him shook. Suddenly, he vanished and appeared a meter ahead of where he had been standing just moments before.
"Hmm, is this a space movement?" Apollo murmured as he opened his eyes, surprised by the unique sensation of travelling through space. Even though it was just a meter, the experience was still awesome.
He had just moved through space and felt the spatial power up close, but the sensation was too brief for him to grasp much. For a fraction of a second, he seemed to be disconnected from the world during his movement.
The Blink spell, with its ability to traverse space instantaneously, was indeed remarkable. He wanted to try again, but he was a bit surprised to notice a decrease in his mana and mental strength. Despite his strong foundation and large mana reserves, he realized that if he used the Blink spell six or seven times, he would deplete all his mana.
He hadn’t fully understood the spell yet, as he encountered some issues while casting it. Because of this, he didn’t dare to engrave the spell just yet.
Apollo knew that engraving a spell model required more than just raw power; it demanded precision and a deep understanding of the spell’s intricate details. The process wasn’t something to be rushed, as a poorly engraved spell could lead to disastrous consequences, even damaging his Foundation Rune and potentially ruining his future as a mage.
Apollo resumed his practice, pushing himself to his limits. Whenever he drained his energy, he would rest and meditate using the Primal Cosmos technique, allowing him to recover within an hour.
This intense, almost manic training continued for a week, and his spiritual strength soared like a rocket.
One day, while meditating in his room, countless elemental energies swirled around him like stars, making him resemble a celestial body in the cosmos.
Boom!
Suddenly, his aura erupted, and the energy around him gradually dissipated as he opened his eyes with a smile.
"Second rune, done."
Apollo’s hard training over the past week bore fruit, as he formed his second rune in just that short time. If he continued at this pace, he would reach the peak of a first-rank elementary mage within another week.
If this shocking speed were known outside, countless mages might lose faith in their own talents, as even for geniuses, it usually takes a year or two to achieve such results, but he could do it in just two weeks.
But that wasn’t all. Although he focused most of his time on mage cultivation, he still made progress in his warrior path, reaching the middle stage of a first-rank limit-breaking warrior, further enhancing his physique and life force.
Just as Apollo was feeling pleased with his improvement, he suddenly sensed a shocking, thunderous, and mighty energy that seemed to cover the entire Fletcher family estate, causing everyone in the area to feel a wave of terror.
It was as if they had been struck by lightning, but the true source of this fear came from the concentrated thunder and lightning emanating from one particular room within Fletcher Castle.
And that room was none other than the one where his master was undergoing closed-door training.
Apollo and Old Man Aragon quickly noticed this, understanding the situation. They appeared some distance from the room but were unable to get closer, as the lightning and thunder had created a small domain that entirely covered a thirty-meter radius around the room.
A powerful and destructive Law of Lightning could be felt from afar, and Apollo himself was shocked by the intensity. The level of this law seemed even higher than his 20% comprehension of the Law of Death.
Sensing its power, Apollo realized that his master’s understanding of the Law of Lightning had likely reached close to thirty per cent, nearing the level where one could comprehend a law Domain—a feat usually achieved by Saints.
This realization left him surprised, as it seemed his master was far stronger than he had initially thought.
