Chapter 81: Showing all they have
Chapter 81: Showing all they have
After showering and getting ready, they met Black Leather and the others, as they had promised to go there. During the morning and until noon, they chatted and ate at Black Leather’s bar-restaurant.
Everyone went their separate ways at noon. The drivers had to return to Zargo that night, so they went to rest. Black Leather assured them that he would stay in the city a little longer.
Meanwhile, Elliot and Jenna simply waited for the appointed time, waiting for those whom Joferth would send to take them to the Guild. They planned to go alone if they didn’t arrive, but fortunately, they arrived at the exact time.
Both were taken to one of the city’s most glamorous buildings, the building whose slogan was a water angel, one of the races that came to this world with their awakening.
It was a large building decorated in red and white. It looked elegant yet powerful, standing out in stark contrast to the buildings of the Awakened Association.
While the Association’s building was decorated in blue and white, which enhanced its elegance and prestige, the Angelic Wave building utilized red and white to convey a sense of power and fire.
The hallways were long and had a good flow of awakened people. The peculiar thing was that most of them were powerful awakened people of different ages, but almost all were slightly unknown.
Perhaps they came from humble backgrounds or prestigious families, but they maintained a certain level of anonymity. There are several families like that in Loen City.
Soon they arrived at the place where Joferth, the Master Steward, and others were gathered, waiting for them.
When Joferth saw them arrive, his eyes lit up.
"Young Master, Miss, this way!" he called out excitedly to them.
Upon their arrival, Joferth quickly stepped forward and introduced them.
"Master, this is Elliot Clark. And she is..." Joferth suddenly felt like he had forgotten the girl’s name. Had he even asked her in the first place?
But since Elliot had already introduced himself to Steward, Jenna quickly did so to hide his mistake.
"Jenna White," she said.
Steward was surprised to see her. ’Girl...’ He was speechless for a moment, and it was only after several seconds that he reacted, quickly letting go of her hand so as not to make her uncomfortable.
"I’m sorry. Your power and your age... I should say they don’t match," he said.
Jenna said nothing, but Master Steward’s words surprised those around him.
A moment ago, they questioned and scolded Joferth for bringing unknown people to the Guild without warning, so Master Steward’s reaction took them slightly aback.
Steward quickly recovered and motioned for them to follow him. "Since we’re running out of time, with only a week left before the tournament you want to participate in begins, we’ll only give you one test, the strength test. Let me be clear: we want both of you in the Guild, but if you want to earn a spot in that tournament and make us break certain existing contracts, you have to prove yourselves worthy." He said and stared at them intently.
"Do you understand?" he asked.
Elliot smiled. "If you just want us to show you everything we’ve got, just say so, Mr. Steward. I think Jenna and I are willing to do it. After all, we’re running late."
"Hahaha. Well, if that’s the case, then I hope you can surprise me."
Then they entered a room next to where they were standing, which contained various devices for measuring power, abilities, and other things.
"All you need to do is show me what you’ve got and use those two meters. The strength meter and the skill meter, for skills whose abilities aren’t obvious."
Jenna stepped forward. "I’ll go first," she said.
"Since my skill isn’t obvious, I’ll explain it." She created the sword as usual and also walked over to the device that measured skills.
"It’s a Class, and its basic function is to create this sword with Dark Magic. It has all the advantages of a weapon created with magic, and also gives me certain advantages. For example..." She demonstrated one of its abilities, staining her other hand with dark magic.
"If I put this on someone, they will slow down considerably, depending on their strength," she said, placing her hand on the device.
The device scanned what it was touching and then gave results:
[Dark Magic born from the Dark Sword, it can slow down anyone who is touched by it.]
Then Jenna moved her sword toward the device and infused it with power, allowing the machine to study it momentarily.
[Rank unknown. A powerful class that creates a magic sword and gives its wielder great dexterity.]
’Rank unknown? That means it’s above Rank B...’ Steward was surprised. It was a very good class.
But it still wasn’t enough.
While having that class might mean that in the future, when she became a great swordswoman, very few could match or defeat her, the fact was that in the present, she probably didn’t have that advantage.
After all, could she be a Sword Master?
That’s why Jenna walked over to the other device and placed her hand on it.
"I’m 16 years old, and this is my current strength," she said, then injected her power, allowing the device to study her.
It quickly returned the results:
[Age: 16.]
[Approximate Strength: 60.]
[Approximate Sense: 61.]
"Master Rank?!" Joferth and the other managers who were present, watching everything, almost spat out the coffee they had drunk that morning in shock.
"How is that possible?! 16 years old and already in the Master Rank?!" Several of them even took a few steps back.
Even Steward, who had sensed it to some extent, was in shock.
’...Master Rank at 16... I’m afraid this girl is one of the most talented people in the Kingdom.’
He never thought he would be so lucky. But the one who had impressed him the most recently was still missing, so after nodding to Jenna, he looked at Elliot.
’It’s been three weeks since he supposedly awakened... If Joferth’s research is accurate, he should be at a significantly higher level than we calculated before, when he defeated John Clark in that duel,’ he thought.
Elliot didn’t even head toward the machine that studies his ability.
Steward behind him frowned when he saw this. ’Does he have an ability that’s easy to demonstrate?’ he thought, confused.
Then Elliot stood next to the device that measured his power and turned to look at Steward.
"See for yourself," he said, and immediately a dangerous aura rose beside him.
