Chapter 71: Duel with a Nurotaur
Chapter 71: Duel with a Nurotaur
Elliot and Jenna exchanged glances. Having traveled together for several days and faced death together several times, they had somehow become incredibly skilled at communicating with gestures, which gave them a certain advantage in a fight where both would be involved.
Thus, they both knew the moment when he was going to ring the bell.
And after three breaths, with both of them preparing themselves close to each other and looking at the Nurotaur, the bell rang and immediately disappeared from Elliot’s hand, as he had put it away.
He immediately got into a fighting stance, but as he looked ahead and tried not to lose sight of the Nurotaur, his body felt a strange breeze.
He turned around and saw that a human head, but strangely hairy, was behind Jenna, touching her shoulder.
’So fast? I didn’t even see it move,’ he thought, and looked back in front of him. There was the Nurotaur, still there.
’An illusion?’ That was the first thought that crossed his mind, because he was no longer behind her, but when he saw the area he had touched on Jenna’s shoulder, he could see that it was slightly wrinkled, which meant that it wasn’t.
’This is going to be difficult,’ he growled in his heart.
Instinctively, he pushed Jenna aside to signal her to move quickly, while he threw himself to the other side.
Just then, the Nurotaur appeared behind him and touched the spot where he had been a moment ago, but was forced to reveal a look of surprise.
"Oh. Did you see that coming?" The Nurotaur stared at him in shock.
Elliot quickly ran counterclockwise, just like Jenna, in circles to get closer and trick the Nurotaur.
Neither of them said a word.
They were completely focused on the battle in front of them.
Even though they weren’t actually fighting, it felt much more serious than that. The Nurotaur’s speed was practically supreme.
One second of distraction would mean defeat.
The Nurotaur smiled. "If it’s going to get interesting, then so much the better for me. You’re the first to test my speed, so please enjoy yourselves." His words had not yet reached their ears when he appeared beside Elliot and touched him on the arm.
The first time.
Elliot quickly turned, pulling a whip from his clothes and striking it fiercely toward the Nurotaur.
Then he pulled out a large but light scythe and held it in his other hand, striking it toward the other side, trying to hit it in any way possible.
Unfortunately, these weapons didn’t even touch Nurotaur’s clothes or hair, so he was forced to "discard" them, as they were considered useless after being dodged.
On the other side, Jenna immediately ran towards the spot that hadn’t been covered by those weapons, seeking to corner him and trap him with a sword and spear, striking in different directions.
Suddenly, she felt a touch on her back, the second one for her.
But she didn’t give up. Instinctively, she knew that the man was going to do that, so after missing her blows from the front, she instantly grabbed the whip discarded by Elliot, naturally in a combined attack, and pulled him back, releasing the other two weapons.
Her attack was so fast that even the Nurotaur had to turn a few degrees to avoid it, which was the closest they came to succeeding in those few seconds.
As the Nurotaur was surprised by their excellent teamwork, he suddenly saw Elliot appear from the side, wielding the two weapons Jenna had discarded earlier to strike him.
Out of the corner of his eye, he also saw Jenna move immediately, so he had to move quickly to dodge their combined attacks, jumping out of reach.
Both saw this and continued on their path, running toward him. A grave mistake, considering they had already been hit three times.
But when they had taken only two more steps, Jenna suddenly shouted, "Horizontal!" Her shout came at the exact moment the Nurotaur moved, and it was also when both of them suddenly launched a horizontal spinning attack.
If the Nurotaur had gotten any closer, this spinning attack, which was perfect for Jenna and had a few mistakes on Elliot’s part, would have possibly hit him.
As if he had predicted their movements, the Nurotauro, instead of moving as he had before, this time jumped into the air with his head down and his feet up. That way, he was able to touch Elliot’s head without him noticing the attack.
It was so fast that they had trouble realizing what kind of movement the Nurotaur had made, but when they did, they regretted it.
’...If it had been vertical...’
But there was no time for regrets.
They both immediately moved again, but this time with more caution. They were close to losing.
Unfortunately, those movements were too slow for someone like the Nurotaur. He didn’t hesitate to touch Jenna’s arm and move away from her.
It was the fifth touch. One more and they were lost.
They immediately changed their actions and ran towards each other, as if they wanted to face each other in a duel.
’What are they up to?’ The Nurotaur frowned when he saw them like that, unable to understand what they were doing.
But he didn’t care. He decided to finish it, even though it had only lasted a few seconds.
Just then...
"In the south!" Elliot shouted suddenly.
’Did he foresee the attack?’ Thought the Nurotaur, having been guessed so quickly. But even if they had foreseen it, they weren’t fast enough. He would touch them before they could even move.
But strange, poisonous weapons suddenly released their venom from Jenna’s body. It was a poison that didn’t act immediately, but served as a smokescreen.
With so many poisonous weapons fired at once, this poisonous smoke screen quickly reached the limits of this fighting zone.
Elliot looked behind him and immediately activated numerous weapons on his body.
Within this poison, Elliot’s body was surrounded by sharp weapons protruding from the assassin’s suit he was wearing. These were intended to touch the Nurotaur before he touched him, regardless of which part of the body he had chosen to touch.
