Chapter 56: Still being chased in a strange Ruin
Unfortunately, what was interesting for a Rank A could be torture for some little Rank Ds.
As they rolled across the floor inside this darkened ruin, Elliot and Jenna managed to stop themselves by hitting one of the nearby walls of the hallway where they had fallen.
’Damn, everything wants to give me a headache today.’ Elliot quickly looked ahead, trying to get his bearings, but he couldn’t. In front of him were... some slightly peculiar mountains.
Jenna was the one who prevented the blow from killing them, taking most of the impact with her magic, but that caused her to roll until she finally hit one of the hallway walls, in a position where she had Elliot clutched between her legs.
She opened her eyes, groaning from the thunderous impact she received on her head at the end, and then found Elliot on her chest, staring at her.
"It seems we’ve managed to live a little longer," she said softly. They wouldn’t have made it if it weren’t for what he did at the end, because the blow would have hit them before the ground collapsed. It was his sacrifice that saved them.
But suddenly she was confused about why Elliot wasn’t speaking, let alone reacting. "What’s wrong? We must..." Her words were cut off mid-sentence as she realized.
Despite her age, Jenna’s body had developed splendidly. Not only did she have a face that would make even the most beautiful women doubt their own beauty, but her body was as beautiful as if the gods had carefully sculpted it.
Elliot hadn’t paid much attention to her before, perhaps because of his lack of experience or because romantic interests weren’t his focus, but right now... he could see her beautiful attributes.
Not only did he have his hands behind her body, strangely squeezing something very... fleshy, but his face was also between two beautiful mountains.
Despite the clothes, they felt perfect to him because... He was literally inside the loose-fitting clothes she was wearing.
He was literally wrapped in a splendid body, touching almost every inch of it.
Jenna was in shock, but as soon as their eyes met, they both immediately tried to move away... Well, only Elliot seemed to have that intention, because when Jenna tried to do so, she ended up squeezing her legs together, preventing Elliot from leaving.
"Ah—" She immediately realized her mistake and let go, quickly standing up.
Then Elliot was finally free. He smiled sheepishly. "I’m sorry, I didn’t realize what was happening."
"No, no." She quickly shook her head. "It’s okay." She said quickly, her beautiful cheeks red with embarrassment, but she endured it.
When they could finally see clearly, their bodies trembled at that moment.
Now that they thought back a few seconds, they had been in mortal danger that they had momentarily forgotten, but when they saw what was in front of them, this mortal danger hit them again.
"It’s a ruin... There really was a ruin here." Elliot spoke, perplexed.
It was full of rocks and a lot of dirt that had fallen from the collapse, but the...
Elliot turned his head sharply when he sensed imminent danger stirring through the place’s energy. It was the first time he sensed anything through energy, so he realized it immediately.
"The griffin? Shit." He quickly grabbed Jenna’s hand, who was still a little dazed, and pulled her into the hallway before them.
In no time, they reached an intersection of hallways carved by some great craftsman and built by an excellent architect, so he chose one of them and started running through it.
"The griffin is chasing us," he said desperately, but suddenly stopped when Jenna pulled him back. "What happened?"
"Wait," she said. "Don’t you notice something strange?’ she asked suddenly.
Elliot turned to look at her. "Something strange?"
Now that she mentioned it...
"There’s no smell," Jenna said, sniffing her hand, then sniffing Elliot’s hand and hair...
"..."
She couldn’t smell anything.
"This..."
"Is it blocking our sense of smell?"
"Yes. That’s right. I hadn’t noticed."
When they both finally understood what was happening, they realized that, although they were in imminent danger, they had a chance. That chance was precisely the fact that it blocked their sense of smell.
Griffins have an incredible sense of smell; thanks to that, they can easily track their prey from miles away. So, if this blocked that griffin’s sense of smell, too, wouldn’t that be wonderful for them?
’What I felt a moment ago was the movement of energy when it was hit by that bastard’s fall, so he must be nearby...’ Elliot frowned and turned his head sharply to one side.
He immediately pulled Jenna toward him and hid between a fork in the long, beautiful hallway, trying to make as little noise as possible...
"How awful that there are treasures capable of blocking my senses of smell and direction. But this ruin seems wonderful." A voice echoed through the long corridors, while two types of footsteps reverberated throughout.
"This isn’t going to make it easy to find my breakfast. Sigh, I shouldn’t have let that stupid eagle get away. Humans are so annoying, they’re always crawling around like cockroaches, damn it." Despite his complaints, his eagle’s beak seemed to emit some sounds of joy.
As he walked, he stopped at the intersection and looked strangely toward one of the corridors.
Elliot pulled Jenna as close as he could in that moment and held his breath, forcing his body not to make a sound. This forced him to listen to the sound of his heart.
Somehow, he wanted to be able to stop his heart, as he felt it was beating too loudly, but unfortunately, that was impossible.
"Right, left, or keep walking... Which is the right choice?" The griffin looked so bored that he started thinking out loud.
Elliot finally made a noise, but only in his mind. ’Choose left, you bastard!’ he begged in his heart, since they were on the right.
"Fifufifu..." A strange whistle came out of the eagle’s beak then, as if it were playing a mind game to figure out which one to choose, and suddenly, it laughed. "Haha, okay. Let’s go right then."
’No, damn it, the left has treasures!’ Elliot cried internally and prepared to run away, but as he did so and took two steps, he unconsciously looked back, then took two more steps to hide again.
His footsteps seemed to echo slightly down the hallway, causing the griffin to stop and look back.
"Hm? Were they on the left?" He spoke, but after thinking for a few seconds, he shrugged. "My instincts never lie, while my senses are being deceived. Let’s keep going this way."
Elliot began to breathe quickly, overcome with an indescribable emotion. For the first time, he understood what it meant to be lucky.
It was true, the griffin’s instincts hadn’t deceived him. They were on the right. But even though his instincts had told him the right thing, his sense of direction wasn’t at its best, so he had chosen the left path, thinking it was the right one.
It was such terrifying luck that he felt all the luck in his life had been focused solely on this moment.
