Chapter 120: Secrets and mysteries

He tried to put them together somehow, and somehow they seemed to fit.

They were broken, but they all seemed to form a larger mirror. They fit together very well.

Just as he tried this, all five pieces suddenly lit up in a blinding red light, making them both turn their heads and cover their eyes.

When they looked again, one word was written on each piece.

Desire. Vengeance. Traitor. Ancestor and God.

The five pieces also seemed to be brimming with power, indicating that they had or had had an ability at some point.

There was an explanation for their abilities and what they did.

The first piece of the mirror he got, from his former boss, is the one with the word ’God’ on it, and its attribute was: lead you to the right path.

The second piece he got is the one that says ’Vengeance’. He got it from the Boss Chimera of the Rank E dungeon. Its attribute is: It allows you to see the Thread of Vengeance and connect with those you must kill so you can get the desired revenge.

The third one, the one he got in the forest of Tall-Or, says ’Traitor’ and has the attribute: Do not wait for his thrust.

The fourth one he got from John, when he killed him, and the name inscribed is ’Ancestor’. This one was curious. Its attribute is: Suppress the Clark’s Blood.

If Elliot remembered correctly, this should be one of the great treasures of the Clark Family, which they kept for hundreds of years. He didn’t know how to use it, but technically, it had uses available.

Now, the fifth is the one he just got: ’Desire’. Its attribute is unknown, but if Elliot connects wires, he will realize that it is the center of everything, as it activates the other four.

Now, this was all a bit strange.

Elliot was soon immersed in deep thoughts. Something about each of these pieces made him think he could figure out some things, connecting the dots.

His analytical mind kicked in.

He wrote a lot of things in a notebook. They seemed random, but he was looking for what his mind told him was there.

And after two full hours, where everything he wrote seemed random, he found something.

He put the wires together into one, and then he realized something.

’Lead you to the right path...’ He thought of the first mirror he got. ’That’s why when I got it, it pointed me and led me to get the 2nd mirror, the one of Vengeance.’ His eyes sparkled with curiosity.

After getting the Vengeance one, looking at the Threads of Vengeance, he realized he couldn’t get into several of the guilds that were initially an option. So he ended up in Broken Leaf.

But there, the first mirror came into play once again. It wanted to lead him to the right path, and it led him.

This time to suffer a betrayal. Didn’t you expect his lunge? Obviously, he did not expect to be betrayed in that place.

When he thought this far, his eyes sparkled, and he remembered certain words from his father....

At that moment, they were looking at the stars on one of the mountains near Loen City.

Elliot asked a random question, which received a profound answer.

He could still hear his father’s chuckle as he answered it, his mind traveled back in time....

-

"Haha. Little Elliot, revenge is not always a good thing." His father then had him look up at a region of the sky with no stars.

"Can you see the darkness there?"

"I can see it, Dad."

"Of course, you can see it. But have you ever thought that that darkness can see you too?"

Elliot looked at him, quizzically. "What do you mean? I don’t think it has eyes."

"Hahahaha." His father laughed at his tender, immature response.

"It has no eyes, but when you look into the darkness, it looks back at you. Because it is omnipresent, it is everywhere. Even the sun receives shadow from a larger sun, though we cannot see it because of its radiant nature. Even the sun can be swallowed by the darkness of a black hole, if nature and darkness will it."

Although Elliot didn’t quite understand what he meant, he listened attentively. To him, his father’s words were a treasure worth remembering all his life.

After all, who was his father? The Great SkyDome, the Hero of Loen.

His words were worth their weight in gold.

"In the same way that darkness is, revenge is. Revenge is dark and bloody; many crave it, but it is a vicious cycle that once you embrace it, it will embrace you. You kill the one who betrayed you in revenge, and someone else will avenge him, killing you. That is revenge. It is something that leads you to a dead end, to a blind path. So if you take revenge, be prepared to be the focus of someone else’s revenge. Of painful betrayal and endless suffering."

Those words had struck hard at his heart. Despite that, he felt there were ways to avoid that.

One such example would be to eliminate all the people involved with his goal of revenge.

But... Wouldn’t he kill innocents then? Was that the goal of a hero?

Of course, he wasn’t.

So he had to suppress the urge to say it and suppress those thoughts that would surely embarrass his father.

At least it was that way back then.

Such a thing did not exist in his current state. Revenge was a dish he would eat repeatedly, even if it ultimately led him down a path of no return.

But remembering this helped him understand why the mirror of Revenge led him to get the mirror of Betrayal (Traitor).

Blinded by his vengeance, he walked into a dead end, which brought betrayal into view.

Now, this betrayal made him want more revenge, even though he now visualized his path better. And that led him to get the longed-for revenge against John. In this way, he was able to obtain the fourth mirror, which he has not used so far, and its attribute does not seem impressive to him.

And a fifth one then appeared.

While its attribute was unknown, the ability to activate the other mirrors gave him a clue. In addition, it told him that there were 17 pieces of the mirror.

And he had five. He had only begun to collect them, but he was sure this fifth would help him find the others.

For its name, Desire, carried the greatest of meanings for him.

It was his longed-for Desire to awaken. He had already done so.

It was his longed-for Desire to take revenge. He had already begun to do so.

His desire had guided him here, and he fully trusted that it would continue to guide him.

And now, this same desire made him want to uncover the secrets that might involve something greater in his life. If the Clarks were in on this and had a piece of the mirror specifically for them, then something had to mean all of this to him.
