Chapter 114: Uncovered

A cold breeze hit Elliot’s back as he sat on top of his new apartment, which was located within the Angelic Wave territories.

His hand moved smoothly, elegantly, and gently over a canvas while a paintbrush was held between his fingers.

The canvas was quickly covered in paint, and an exotic drawing of a massive beast—a griffin—was quickly added. The griffin stood atop the peak of a mountain, its head raised high.

Even though the drawing wasn’t perfect and had flaws, Elliot smiled upon finishing it. He was satisfied.

’Thanks to the painting teacher the guild hired, I’ve improved a lot in just a few days with canvas drawing.’

He had requested the canvas and other supplies from the guild, since he needed to improve his drawing skills to make better summons. All his summons had several issues, and he couldn’t go on like that.

That’s why, after winning the tournament, the guild granted his request and even hired a canvas painting teacher for him. Thanks to that, he had seen how drastically his skills had improved.

Also, it helped him relax; it was a hobby he had recently discovered he enjoyed.

He looked back at the city below. The Angelic Wave building was right in front of him, and the beautiful city was on either side.

The radiant sun shone on the glass of distant buildings and warmed the rooftops of the houses.

Still, this sun wasn’t the usual one.

’As my mother would say: water sun.’ He smiled.

The sun shone with soft, whitish tones and made the nearby clouds glow.

The breeze wasn’t warm either—it was slightly cold, in fact.

That meant winter was near.

As he enjoyed this beautiful landscape, the door to his apartment sounded.

’Jenna?’ he thought, turning toward the hallway leading to the door.

Soon, Jenna’s beautiful appearance came into view, and they both smiled upon seeing each other.

He set down what he was doing, washed his hands in a bucket beside him to remove the paint, then dried them.

Then he stood up.

She reached him, and they embraced for a moment. A soft kiss on the lips sealed their feelings, while Elliot’s arms wrapped around her waist, pulling her closer.

After separating, she looked at his drawing and nodded.

"It’s amazing. You’ve improved a lot."

"Yeah, haha. These slow days have been productive."

"Hehehe..." She smiled softly and kissed him again.

After a moment of kisses, she pulled away.

"Mr. Steward is calling you. He’s in his office. It seems he has something to tell you," she said.

Elliot nodded. "Alright. Let’s go then. I’m done here."

They went down, crossed the street, and then headed to Mr. Steward’s office.

Lately, Elliot’s status had risen drastically. Everyone in the guild knew him and greeted him with respect.

Moreover, thanks to Steward’s good promotion with his image, he was earning a lot of money. Not only had his salary increased, but he was also given an apartment and was paid for promotions.

It had been such a resounding victory that the guild’s status had risen, and they had secured themselves as the most popular guild in the city. Perhaps things would change when the Leveled Leagues arrived in January, but for now, nothing could challenge that fact.

Upon arriving at Mr. Steward’s office, they didn’t have to wait. Someone let Elliot in and left Jenna outside.

"Elliot. You came," Steward greeted him with a respectful smile.

Yes, he not only respected and secretly admired him—he no longer tried to hide it. Elliot was too valuable to ignore.

He deserved first-class VIP treatment.

And more because of...

"Greetings, Mr. Steward. I came as soon as I got the message from Jenna." He walked to the desk and sat across from Steward.

"Good, haha. I have some things to discuss and a few tasks to ask you to do. I hope that’s not a problem."

"Go ahead, Mr. Steward. You’ve been a benefactor to me in many ways."

"Good." Mr. Steward looked at him intently, and the smile on his face suddenly disappeared.

All at once, the room’s temperature dropped.

"Elliot, you can use all your stats at their maximum level, right? You’re an Awakened without the restriction of the Fair Law," he said.

Though surprising to Elliot, his sudden words didn’t make him flinch.

He remained impassive.

"What makes you think there’s an Awakened capable of breaking the system’s rules, Mr. Steward? I’ve never heard of anyone who doesn’t have the Fair Law."

"Haha." Steward leaned back a bit in his seat and nodded. "Yeah, I hadn’t heard of it either."

"Then?"

"But now I know someone can do it."

Elliot’s eyebrows shifted slightly. That was a surprise to him.

"Why do you believe that’s the case, then?"

"I’ve seen it before. Our stat scan system revealed amazing numbers for each of your stats, but none of those values explained what I saw in the arena."

"Amazing agility. Incredible endurance. Even better strength. Yet you can still keep all those summons out while using all of that at the maximum level. That’s not the level of agility and resistance between 15 and 20 points, you know?" He smiled.

He had hit the mark.

But Elliot wasn’t going to admit it so easily.

"Haha, machines fail too, Mr. Steward."

He nodded.

"I know," he said. "But then you’re telling me your agility and resistance are above 60 points."

Elliot finally frowned slightly but didn’t respond.

"If that were the case, then you’d be telling me you’re actually Master Rank. That’s something that can’t be hidden. So that’s why I concluded that you’re simply someone without the Fair Law. You’re a singularity," he insisted.

Elliot didn’t respond immediately. He tried to think of ways to refute what was being said, but couldn’t. He was telling the truth.

There was no way to deny that fact because there was no way to have two stats above 60 without reaching Master Rank.

And that couldn’t be hidden either.

That’s why silence reigned in the room for over five minutes. That silence confirmed Steward’s suspicions.

So Elliot had nothing more to say.

"Sigh." He sighed. "I didn’t think it would be so easy to figure out." He smiled.

"Hahaha." Steward laughed kindly, and his happiness seemed to radiate. Even though he already suspected it, a hint of doubt had remained. Maybe it was a peculiarity of his class, and he could only do it occasionally. He didn’t know.

That’s why he needed confirmation. Even though everything increasingly pointed in that direction, a confirmation was better than a well-supported suspicion.

"When you move among powerful people who can’t do the same, your advantage becomes obvious, Elliot. That’s why it was relatively easy for me to notice. Also, circumstances cornered you into relying on all your stats simultaneously, which made it even easier."

Elliot sighed again.

"Looks like I need to be more careful from now on," he replied. "But you’re right. I don’t know why, but I haven’t received the Fair Law since I awakened. So I can use all my stats at their maximum."

Steward nodded softly. "This will be hard to keep hidden, but I’ll do my best to ensure no one else finds out. Honestly, I just wanted to confirm it with you so I’d know whether to ask for more help from headquarters. Now that it’s clear, I’ll reinforce the guild’s surroundings. You must know that even Saints would come after you just for this."

Elliot nodded gently. "Thank you, Mr. Steward. I’ll be careful."

"Good." Steward then relaxed and leaned back even more in his chair. "Now, there’s a favor I need to ask."

"What is it?"

Steward first raised his voice to speak to the one outside. "Let Jenna in."

A few seconds later, Jenna entered, and the door closed.

"Miss Jenna, thank you for calling Elliot for me. Now I have something to ask of both of you."

"Go ahead, Mr. Steward. What is it?" Jenna asked, sitting beside Elliot.

"You both get along well with Andrew, right?"

Elliot nodded. "We’re good friends."

"I’ve noticed. He seems to look out for you a lot lately."

"Why? Has something happened with Andrew?"

"Not really, but something serious could happen soon."

They both frowned. "What is it?"

"I can’t reveal the details. But I just want to ask you to convince him to leave. I want to send him to headquarters to protect him, but he seems stubborn. He used to long to go there, longed to research it, but now..." Steward sighed and shook his head.

"I don’t know what happened, but he doesn’t want to go for now. That’s why I called you here. Can you convince him to go? His life is in danger if he stays here," he said.

Elliot and Jenna looked at each other for a moment. Elliot’s expression visibly darkened.

He was the closest to Andrew. Lately, he had even asked him to make a weapon for him. Well, more precisely, for his warrior, he wanted to see if it performed well with it, and since Andrew was a blacksmith, he had decided to test it.

That’s why knowing he was in danger didn’t feel right.

Elliot nodded first.

"Mr. Steward, I’ll go speak to him about this immediately. So don’t worry."
