Game World's Awakening
Chapter 105: A moment of tranquility

Chapter 105: A moment of tranquility

In the arena, Jenna stood next to Elliot and looked at him. She seemed worried about him, so she stayed close.

Everyone gathered around him as well, waiting for the judges’ verdict, although they had nothing to say about the killing that had taken place.

Elliot was again awarded MVP, cementing his position as the likely winner. With three consecutive MVPs under his belt, virtually no one could take it away from him now, as only one fight was left.

The only way he could lose now was by dying.

The last match, the final, would take place the following day. It would be filled with a thirst for revenge, as Elliot and company would be looking for payback.

Steward went to find them in the arena. He did not go alone. He was accompanied by the 2nd Guild Master, Joferth, and others from the high command.

His idea was to protect them in case the Clark Group went crazy, which was unlikely, but not impossible.

They had nothing else to say. Elliot was affected by this, so he followed them closely.

Although they encountered members of the Clark Group carrying corpses along the way, they only earned a hateful look and nothing more.

Alexander realized that Angelic Wave already knew they would challenge them to a fight to the death, which is why they had moved so many personnel just for their protection. That prevented him from venting his anger.

He couldn’t even get close to that bastard with so many powerful bodyguards around him.

So, he had to swallow his anger and ignore them.

Not only that, but he also had to swallow the price of defeat: millions in losses.

The family businesses collapsed in just 15 minutes. Investors even withdrew, even though coming third wasn’t bad.

If things continued like this, they would be in a difficult situation that would be difficult to get out of. Luckily, they still had some advantages.

And well, at least they had a companion in misfortune: the betting houses.

Some suffered million-dollar losses, as many people bet on the Clark Group when the battle to the death was broadcast, supporting them because they had more Masters just before Elliot showed his summons. An anonymous bettor exploited this, making a lot of money.

Today would be a black day for many.

-

Inside the Angelic Wave facilities, upon their return.

Before training began, Elliot approached Steward.

"I’d like to take these hours off and not participate in training. Can I do that?" he asked.

Steward stared at him for several seconds before nodding and patting him on the head.

"Go on. Be careful out there."

"Thank you, Mr. Steward."

Elliot turned and left without looking back.

Nearby, Jenna had been listening intently, so when she saw him leave, she approached Steward with the same intention.

Steward didn’t wait for her to speak. "You can go too. He’s not discouraged, but some good company will help him."

Jenna smiled with slight embarrassment. "Thank you, Mr. Steward." She left behind.

Steward glanced toward a corner of the room and signaled to the other Guild Master.

"Protect them. If anyone approaches them suspiciously, you can kill them. Whoever they are. If you can’t, send out the Guild’s emergency call." He whispered.

The man simply nodded, turned around, and left.

Only a few people remained in the room, including five of the seven members. They would be training alone today.

-

Elliot walked through the city as if he were in his own backyard. He understood that he was in danger right now, so he put on a black hood and some bandages to cover himself and walked quickly.

Jenna caught up with him shortly after.

Neither spoke; they just walked side by side, heading for his apartment.

"Someone’s following us," Jenna whispered, noticing someone else’s presence.

Elliot smiled. "He’s trustworthy."

"Is it the other Guild Master?" she asked.

"Yes."

"I see. All right, then." She was already prepared to pull out her real trump card. No matter what happened, she was still a Master Rank.

She might have been the weakest among the Masters, but with the sword the Nurotaur had given them, it would be enough to give any of the strongest a fight.

They walked for a long time until they reached the apartment. Elliot went inside and removed his hood and the other bandages covering him.

Then he prepared food, drank wine, and poured it.

It was already 7 p.m. when he finished.

They both sat on the balcony to eat and drink while looking at the beautiful city lit up below them.

A strange peace reigned between them. Neither of them spoke. Elliot was very thoughtful, wanting to enjoy the peace.

And Jenna didn’t know what to say, but just seeing him calm and enjoying himself was enough for her. It gave her peace.

It wasn’t until there was only a little grape wine left in the glass that Elliot spoke.

"I apologize for not toasting you earlier, I had forgotten," he said, raising his glass to clink hers.

Jenna raised hers as well and clinked it.

"You don’t need to apologize," she shook her head. "I’m here and I’ll toast with you whenever you need it."

They both drank the rest of their wine in one gulp.

Elliot simply smiled at her words and gazed at the city before them.

"It’s funny that you drink wine," Jenna said suddenly.

He turned to look at her. "Why?" he asked.

"You don’t like it very much, right?"

"I see..." Elliot nodded. "You’re right," he said, leaning back in his chair to look at her.

"My parents used to tell me it wasn’t good to be a wine drinker. It was fine to enjoy it occasionally, but getting drunk on it would only bring ruin. That’s why I tend to avoid it. Although I do like it."

"I see," she replied. "Being the son of SkyDome, I suppose that makes sense. I heard he was a strict man and didn’t like to hang out with drunks."

"Hahaha." Elliot laughed. "He was strict, but gentle and calm. He didn’t like hanging out with drunks, but he constantly saved them from being killed by psychopaths. He was a strange man."

"That has its charm too." Jenna smiled. "A hero that everyone admires and respects, a man willing to hold up the sky for an entire population. You don’t see that every day."

Elliot sighed as he listened to her and looked up at the sky.

"A hero, huh?"

To him, those words sounded laughable right now.

He stood up suddenly and went to sit on the sofa on the balcony. It was softer, and he could relax more as he looked up at the sky.

Jenna followed him closely and sat down next to him.

"You know?" she said. "When I first met you, you had a heroic bearing. A heroic aura and a more formal way of speaking. Maybe that’s what attracted me to you."

Elliot looked at her.

"Has something changed?" he asked, curious.

She nodded.

"It’s changed a lot."

"Have I become more heroic or lost that strange aura?"

She stared at him.

"Now you’re more direct, less formal. You carry yourself like a man discovering the world and trying to make a place for himself.

You want to protect those you care about. Kill those you hate. The heroic aura has disappeared from you, and an aura of loneliness accompanies you."

He was speechless for several minutes, trying to process what she said.

That was a radical change from how she had marked him initially, wasn’t it?

"This... being such a radical change, then the attraction you mentioned must have disappeared," he said awkwardly.

She smiled softly.

"Do you think so?" she asked, suddenly moving closer to him.

Their lips were suddenly sealed together softly and awkwardly.

Both seemed to be struck by lightning.

Even so, Jenna was ready to face anything tonight. She pulled away slightly, brushing the strands of hair that fell across her right forehead behind her ear.

A charming smile blossomed on her lips.

"Now..." she said. "You’re more charming. Your personality is wonderful. The way you talk is amazing. That aura... it attracts me naturally." Her cheeks flushed but she didn’t look away.

"When you work, you look charming. When you discover something new, a strategy, or understand your opponent perfectly, a strange but powerful energy surrounds you. It’s invisible to the eye, but not imperceptible. How could I not be attracted to you?"

She never tired of praising him. She had been watching him for many days.

She had spent so much time looking at, observing, analyzing, and thinking about him that her mind simply wouldn’t stop.

She had fallen in love.

She had to admit it. She could almost say she didn’t know when it happened, but the truth was that she knew very well. There was nothing about him that didn’t attract her.

Even his mistakes were attractive; they made him human. They gave him a different aura.

Although she didn’t say it, her expressions and actions made it obvious. He understood.
