Chapter 96: Rankbreaker

Chapter 96: Rankbreaker

Everyone returned. Qwanisha was the only one who suffered the most, evident by her worn-out clothes. However, with Faith’s healing abilities, not even bruises remained. Qwanisha glanced at Kaiju and then swept her gaze at Griffin, snorting.

"What a showoff."

However, surprisingly, Griffin ignored her, as though he was lost in his own worlds, surprising her. Qwanisha shook her head and ignored Griffin, taking the chance to evaluate her current appearance. Her light armor’s durability dropped, so she had to change it with the spare one–thankfully, she was prepared.

She changed to a fiery light armor, altering her entire aura earlier after wearing light green armor. Behind her was Max and Faith, the latter drinking a mana potion. Her expression remained solemn, though seemingly not exhausted at all.

They then noticed the strange atmosphere and stared at Griffin with a bewildered expression. Max asked, "What’s wrong, Griffin?"

Griffin was surprisingly taken aback, distracted by his own thoughts. He lingered his gaze for a while, taking some time to compose himself, and replied in his usual indifferent tone, "Nothing."

Max furrowed his eyebrows and tilted his head, "Did you get injured? Or one of the werewolves managed to get away?"

"Hah! It must be, dear!" Qwanisha snorted.

Griffin shook his head and did not say anything anymore, closing his eyes to meditate.

Max and Qwanisha glanced at each other, feeling something had changed with Griffin. By communicating through their eyes, they knew they must not force Griffin to say something he doesn’t want to.

They then focused on Kaiju in silence, but often caught his eyes glancing at his pet, seemingly communicating with her. They did not want to disturb her, so they waited.

"What took Lucy so long?" Qwanisha asked.

"The witch must be strong. Anyway, how are you so confident she would be able to defeat the witch? They are so tricky to deal with." Max asked.

After all, despite the witches living in solitary, rarely interacting with their own races, they stood at the peak of the Tower due to their affinity with the Curse Manipulation, which was difficult to deal with.

"Well, she said she can create something that can attract the curse. It’s really amazing. It seems like she can do everything."

Kaiju glanced at them but quickly focused on Snow. He recalled his conversation with Herforao. She is everything. His heart raced. He shook his head and continued to act like he was conversing with Snow, while thinking if he allowed Aqua to continue following Lucy.

"Huh?" The familiar feminine, innocent voice echoed.

Everyone turned simultaneously and seemed not to be surprised to discern Lucy unharmed after her duel with the witch. On her shoulder was Aqua, his eyes sparkling in excitement. He shouted at them, "Lucy is so strong! She played the witch until she felt embarrassed and ended herself."

Lucy’s face reddened, lowered her head and eyes, mumbling, "I was just gauging the capabilities of the witch."

"Only you can dare to measure the power of the higher races." Qwanisha exploded in the hoot of laughter.

"I admit, you three have long surpassed us. I won’t be surprised anymore if we can complete the Trial and possibly even follow your plan, Lucy!"

Lucy beamed a smile and nodded.

Kaiju suddenly recalled that he actually had not been told about the plan yet, so he asked, "What is really the plan?"

Lucy glanced at Kaiju in surprise and then felt embarrassed. "I-I actually haven’t told you about the plan yet. I-I’m sorry."

"It’s fine." Kaiju shook his head.

Lucy nodded and continued, "From what I have heard from the stories of my grandmother, she said that in a Trial, there will always be a player who breaks the mission limit of the Trial and achieves great feats.

Later on, they became prominent figures in the Tower. It is always that way the higher races retained their status. After our discussion with Qwanisha, we have concluded that, from the higher races’ movements, they will aim to complete the Trial without cooperating with the highest races’ for rewards.

We have also assumed that the rewards we will receive by completing the Hellish Trial will certainly be worse than the rewards of the higher races’. We, humans, are competitive by nature, so why won’t we compete with them, too?

We can, then, show to them we are worthy to be placed in their eyes, and it will only be a matter of time before we stand at the peak of the Tower."

Kaiju stared at her in silence, trying his best not to move his facial muscles. He listened attentively, nodding. "That is a brilliant plan." He tilted his head and stared at Lucy with inquisitive eyes. "I am convinced. However, how will we accomplish that?"

Lucy smiled, turned to Qwanisha, as the latter nodded with a bright smile.

Qwanisha said, "That’s why we have to get rid of them, Kaiju."

Kaiju was perplexed. When he saw Lucy was floating towards him, his heart skipped a beat. Terror slowly crept to his heart, causing him to activate his Emotionless skill.

He gazed at Lucy with an expressionless face, making Lucy halt.

She lowered her gaze and said in a quivering tone, "P-Please don’t look at me like that."

Kaiju narrowed his gaze and hastily withdrew his gaze to avoid gaining the suspicions of Qwanisha and others. She still has the audacity to act like that... Then, he recalled Lucy’s reasoning earlier why she initiated the plan and concluded it with Qwanisha, causing some doubts to arise. If she planned it, she wouldn’t have needed Qwanisha’s cooperation, especially her opinion.

Is it just a coincidence?

He glanced at his Master and felt bad for distressing him. After all, what if what he said was wrong. Kaiju internally disregarded his overthinking and thought, if Lucy is not the Lucy we know, at least, Griffin is aware of the existence of the former.

Kaiju was lost in thoughts and was then awakened by Lucy’s physical interaction. Lucy already closed her eyes after tapping her black wooden staff on Kaiju’s forehead, mumbling something incomprehensible.

When she was finished, the Gacha System’s voice echoed in Kaiju’s head.

{Someone is attempting to impart a skill, Secret Technique, Rankbreaker, Epic rank, into you.

Do you want to accept it?}
