Chapter 51: Frostfang Dagger
Chapter 51: Frostfang Dagger
A month has passed, Kaiju and Qwanisha were still at it again. However, this time, Qwanisha was using rare grade crossbows, arrows were formed by mana. Yet, it appeared her mana was boundless, her arrows were endless. Kaiju seemed to be the same a month ago, still receiving wounds and barely parrying the arrows. Nevertheless, he lasted for a minute before the Threshold Break effects had been triggered, causing another round to occur.
Kaiju, at first exasperated, began to find relish in the training. Obviously, he could discern the improvement of his dagger mastery, dual dagger was not even difficult anymore. Furthermore, the very fact he managed to force Qwanisha to use Rare grade crossbows was already an achievement.
At the same time, he also wondered if Griffin was stronger than Qwanisha. It should be the case, perhaps, Griffin was the strongest among them. Yet, the image of Lucy appeared on his mind, and he could only shrug and dismiss the unnecessary idea.
Kaiju also spent most of his Luck Points, leaving behind 541 Luck Points to max out his attribute points and obtained a Rare grade dagger.
{Frostfang Dagger (Rare)
Description: A beautifully crafted dagger with a blade forged from enchanted icesteel. The blade glimmers with a frosty sheen, and the hilt is adorned with a shard of magical crystal that radiates a chilling aura.
Effects:
Icy Edge: Strikes cause frostbite, slowing the enemy’s movement and attack speed by 10% for 5 seconds.
Frostbite Infusion: A critical hit deals an additional 20% ice damage and has a chance to freeze smaller enemies temporarily.
Cold Adaptation: Wielder gains minor resistance to cold-based attacks.
Durability: 110/150}
Kaiju was disheartened that it was not a poison related dagger, as he only obtained it through draws. If it was a poison related dagger, he might not need to disturb Snow for the Ring of Venomous Resilience to take effect–he could have just wound his wrist and poisoned himself. Nevertheless, Kaiju was elated by the Icy Edge effects of the Frostfang dagger. Once they got hit by the Frostfang dagger, their life was sealed.
However, Kaiju was far from successfully hitting Qwanisha, even the durability of his dagger decreased just through parrying the arrows–one reason why he would rather evade than block them. Despite all the boost he could have, he could not touch even a single hair of Qwanisha. He was not depressed however, knowing he was already doing well as an unawakened.
Qwanisha has also been praising him for his rapid growth, even providing him six hours of sleep lately. Kaiju would not just reveal to Qwanisha that it was due to the Gacha System. This was his deepest secret and he did not trust them enough to reveal it. Who knows? Human greed knows no bounds.
Three days ago, as Kaiju finally maxed out his attribute points, he received the announcement from the Tower he could now be ascended. However, after sharing it with Qwanisha, the latter suggested to delay it. Before ascending to be awakened, players, after meeting some conditions, would have to choose their class. Furthermore, the class was simultaneously a title, if a class had a higher grade, then the effect was higher as well.
The Tower said that, at present, it could only reveal the common and rare grade classes as it would take some time to discover more hidden classes of higher grade. Qwanisha shared that Griffin and others delayed it for fifteen grades before choosing a Legendary Class–an Ascendant potential.
Kaiju was deeply shocked when he learned about it. It should be the reason why they were strong. Stronger than the awakened teachers in his school. Kaiju asked how they had done it, but Qwanisha only shared that it was due to fate and being patient. Of course, if one fated to become ordinary, then, no matter how patient he was, he would remain as such.
Kaiju was actually terrified. What if he only received a common grade class? He shared his concern to Qwanisha and received a smack on his head. She said it would be absurd to happen as he obtained a Title, Beastmaster. She told him there was a high chance he would obtain an epic class or even higher.
Kaiju hoped he would receive a Legendary Class, marking his future as an Ascendant–that is, if he would not accidentally die.
Kaiju fell to the floor, panting. The Threshold Breaker effect did not trigger again and he was now filled with wounds, his stamina was completely depleted, as well. Since Threshold Breaker did not have to cool down but would only activate through special circumstances, Kaiju and Qwanisha slowly figured it out. However, there would still be limits. At most, they could cheat it to be activated thrice a day.
Kaiju took a rest, respiring heavily. Qwanisha glanced at him and said, "You manage to last longer than yesterday. That is an immense improvement, Kaiju. Often, you made me think your potential surpassed even Griffin and others. Unfortunately, you were born without support."
Qwanisha seemed to be so casual when mentioning something sensitive to Kaiju. That was because Kaiju was indifferent towards it in the first place, staying optimistic about his circumstances.
"Thank you for the praise, Big Sister Qwanisha. At least, I was not late to discover it." Kaiju giggled silly, actually referring to the Gacha System.
"That’s good." Qwanisha nodded, possessing a good impression towards Kaiju. "Anyway, has the Tower added more classes for you to choose?"
Kaiju shook his head and sighed.
"What were the common classes again?"
"Still in the Rogue and Summoner and profession. Actually, the latter evolved to Rare grade just early today."
"I see. That means, we will remain patient."
Kaiju nodded, feeling nervous.
Qwanisha noticed his action and smiled. "I remember, there is a profession that is not known in the Tower. They are similar to Summoners but they are regarded as the lowest profession."
Kaiju’s eyes sparkled.
"What is it?"
"Beast Tamer."
"Beast Tamer?"
"Yes. However, their profession, most of them, are reduced at managing the pet of the other players. That is why it is regarded as the rock-bottom profession."
"Really?" Kaiju snorted. "That is because they are just unfortunate."
Qwanisha nodded. "Indeed, you are right. In addition, Beast Tamer is actually being hunted by the werewolves. Beast Tamer can manipulate the latter. Hence, those who possess potential to become a strong Beast Tamer did not last long."
"Aren’t they monsters?"
"Half a monster, half a beast."
"I see. Understandable."
"If there is a chance you were given a choice to-"
"I will grab it."
Qwanisha smiled.
"Without hesitation?"
Kaiju stared straight through her eyes and replied, "Without hesitation. If it means improving the lives of Snow and Little Gorilla."
