Chapter 100: Raiding the Burg 1
Chapter 100: Raiding the Burg 1
The first time Kaiju spotted the burg was when he arrived at the Trial, floating above the canopy of the gigantic crown of trees. Afterwards, he had never spotted it due to the darkness, as even the sunlight in the Hellish Trial could not be compared to the sun.
Kaiju received the information from them about the direction of the burg, and now, he was nearing it. At the same time, he was baffled by the absence of the Thralls, even now that he was now close to the walls of the castle.
"If I recall correctly, they stated that the Bloodbound must have been preparing against our raid. I must be cautious henceforth." Kaiju mumbled, scrutinizing the burg as he got closer.
He then realized it was tall, needed at least hundreds of him to stand each other to arrive at the peak–it even went higher than the canopy of the gargantuan tree. Kaiju then touched the walls and felt its hardness. It was grey, seemingly created by a cement, but the materials were by no means ordinary.
Kaiju took out the Bloodthorn dagger and slashed the wall. Spark flew all over. Kaiju’s heart ached, almost deluding himself that his Bloodthorn was broken. He glanced at the durability points of the Bloodthorn and heaved a sigh of relief it only decreased by ten points. He then stored it in the inventory to repair.
He fell into deep contemplation, while sliding his fingers at the wall. The wall seemed to be made of enormous bricks glued together. The wall appeared to have grown older as green grass grew, but even then, the toughness of the walls remained impossible to be destroyed.
"Then, there is only one way." Kaiju tilted his head upward, and recalled Herforao.
He then slid his gaze and spotted different branches that could act as a platform for him to jump. Of course, there were the Wind Platform effects by the Zephyrstride boots, but Kaiju preferred the traditional way.
Without hesitation, he glanced at Snow and Little Gorilla, who remained silent and vigilant, and then leapt at the nearest branch.
Kaiju took half an hour to reach the peak, but he was welcomed by a swift projectile, bolting towards him. Agile as he was, he shifted his body mid-air, dodging the projectile with ease. At the same time, he spotted the culprit with the aid of the Shadowveil Hood’s effects, Enhanced Night Vision.
"A Thrall!" Kaiju’s eyes flashed with killing intent.
This was not the first time he encountered a Thrall, but this was certainly the first time he encountered a seemingly crafty one.
What was that? Kaiju tried to recall what the projectile was.
The Thrall, grotesque as similar to he encountered, standing at the peak of the walls, suddenly pulled one of its claws and hurled it towards him. With its monstrous strength, it was swift.
Not as fast as Kaiju, though...
Damn it! Is it that smart it sacrifices its claws just to attack me at a distance? What is it trying to achieve? After all, Kaiju was able to dodge it with ease, and could easily approach the Thrall in an instant.
However, he was surprised by another claw acting like an arrow bolted towards him in a different direction but obviously came from the Tower.
He then recalled Qwanisha’s lessons and growled. They really are tricky to deal with.
At the same time, Little Gorilla managed to arrive at the peak of the wall, the wall walk, where countless Thralls surprisingly gathered, seemingly waiting for their arrival. Although they were only at the Savage Rank, their sheer numbers suffice to bring despair to a single Corrupted Rank, especially Little Gorilla.
However, Little Gorilla was indifferent, exhausting his mana points to activate and maintain the Zealot’s Protection for him. Now that he had garnered their attention, he became the cynosure of all Thrall’s eyes, not hesitating to hurl their claws towards him.
Little Gorilla swung his staff, not even bringing a shield, and then blocked some of the projectiles outside of his barrier’s range. Although his staff mastery was only at the basic rank, it was now the perfect time to hone it.
At the same time, Snow altered the terrain of the wall, slowing the Thrall’s movement, while simultaneously releasing toxic to the savage Thralls. With her deadly toxins and frost, it did not take long before all the Thralls in range with Little Gorilla were taken down.
Kaiju, meanwhile, went into stealth mode, searching for the Bloodbound and surprisingly could not catch a single one. He furrowed his eyebrows. This is strange. If he is not in the wall walk, then he could only be there. He tilted his head upward, sliding his gaze to the sky, squinting his eyes, and finally spotted a silhouette levitating, while seemingly watching an entertainment scene in front of him.
Kaiju grinned. There you are, little puppeteer. He bolted towards the nearest silhouette, instantly arriving behind his back. He did not use Blink as his mana would fluctuate, enough to alarm Bloodbound, especially as they were mages.
However, just as he arrived behind the silhouette and finally able to scrutinize his appearance up close - under the crimson light - he was stunned there were more silhouettes scattered in the skies.
He was only momentarily distracted by them as he instantly stabbed the back of the Bloodbound as its attention was not him, seemingly closing his eyes and focusing at controlling the Thrall.
The Bloodthorn and Frostfang Dagger instantly killed the Bloodbound without costing any mana points.
Although Kaiju was elated to know he was strong enough to take care of a single Bloodbound without putting much effort, he was not happy to discover endless Thralls, pushing each other at the wall walk, seemingly inciting an apocalypse, targeting his pets.
His face turned grave. He could not focus on helping them. He turned around and faced tens of silhouettes with their appearance now as clear as day to him. They have now opened their eyes, bared their fangs at him.
Kaiju activated his Emotionless skill and planned for a massacre.
