Chapter 72: Aidan Wilson’s Guide to Being Played Like a Fiddle
Micah slept through the day, buried beneath layers of soft hotel bedding. Enjoying the cool air conditioner breeze, he didn’t even stir as sunlight brightened the hotel room through the gaps in the curtains.
When he finally opened his eyes, he found himself in an unfamiliar room. His mind, sluggish and disoriented, took a second to realise where he was. Rolling to the side, he grabbed his phone from the nightstand and winced at the time.
"Past two..." he muttered. "Damn..."
The moment he sat up, his stomach let out a monstrous growl. "Ah, I haven’t eaten since yesterday’s lunch!"
Dragging himself to the edge of the bed, he picked up the room service menu and ordered half of it.
When the food finally arrived, Micah devoured it like a man possessed. He didn’t bother with manners, forks clattered, soup splashed, and ketchup stained his fingers. Only when the plates were emptied and the tray resembled a battlefield did he lean back with a satisfied sigh.
"Uugh..." he burped, rubbing his stomach with one hand. Accidentally touching the bruise, he winced.
"Shit. I should buy some ointment," he mumbled.
Feeling alive again after sufficient sleep and eating his fill, he stood up slowly. Tousling his hair, Micah slipped his phone and wallet into his pocket and stepped out of the hotel.
The air outside was warm and sticky, filled with the scent of roasted peanuts and fried dough from nearby vendors. He wandered until he found a pharmacy tucked between a noodle shop and a toy store.
A bell chimed as he stepped inside. Micah walked toward the shelves, grabbing the first anti-inflammatory and pain relief ointment he saw.
Suddenly, a memory flashed in his mind.
The last time he had walked into a pharmacy...
Darcy had been with him.
That day, Darcy’s tensed jaw, the trembling fingers holding his mother’s prescription, and the way he was dismissed by the staff were engraved in Micah’s mind.
Micah’s grip tightened around the ointment tube. He stared at it for a long second before shaking his head.
"No... Don’t think about him," he whispered to himself.
He turned sharply and walked toward the cashier, tossing the tube onto the counter.
Darcy was fine now. His grandfather had already arranged for Flora’s transfer to a specialist in their hospital. Micah was sure Flora would be okay. And Darcy wouldn’t need to go under humiliation to get his mother’s medicine.
So, what was the matter?
Micah shoved his hands in his pockets, lips pursed.
He shouldn’t be selfish. Yeah, it had been fun hanging out with Darcy. Their weird chemistry, the late-night gaming, the amusement park frenzy.... it had all been unexpected and oddly comforting. But he had survived without close friends his entire life. He could do it again. Even without Darcy, life goes on. He didn’t need to stay close to protect him. He could help from a distance and quietly, without getting tangled up again.
Last time, his emotions had gone out of hand the moment he saw Darcy’s struggle up close. That look... those grateful eyes had shattered something in him. It was the kind of look he didn’t deserve. Especially not from Darcy.
Yes. He just needed to focus on his goals. Dealing with those male leads should be his priority. His life was at stake, for God’s sake!
Clutching the paper bag, he left the pharmacy without looking back.
Returning to the hotel, Micah tossed the ointment onto the bed, took off his shirt, and gingerly applied the ointment on his buried side. The cold gel made him hiss. "Stings like hell... was Leo worth this pain?!"
Once done, he collapsed on the bed, phone in hand. A swipe and a few taps later, he was scrolling through the business section.
"Shoele project..." he mumbled.
His brows rise in surprise.
TAT’s famous company, Arad J, had acquired the Shoele Project.
Micah blinked. "He actually listened to me?!"
A grin spread across his face, smug and incredulous. From the lack of his response, he hadn’t thought the man would take him seriously, let alone act on his warning.
Switching WeChat accounts, Micah watched his phone freeze for a second as dozens of notifications flooded his WeChat. Mostly from Alex Ford, threatening and insulting him. Micah could feel the sheer anger from the texts.
AAA: you coward! Do you even have balls?! Sending a girl instead of yourself?!
AAA: where the hell are you? Did you want to insult me this way?! I don’t care anymore. I’ll use every means to find you!
Micah leaned back against the pillows, expression blank. He scrolled through messages, some angry, some full of frustration, and mostly threatening.
He whistled. "Wow... he has really lost it."
Micah skipped the rest and deleted all the texts. His finger hovered over the block option for a second. He had delivered the money and was not in any form of debt to this man. He should end this...
But...
Micah smiled. A slow and wicked one.
The man was so much fun to tease...
Micah could still feel the heat of the man’s glare, the sharp cut of his jaw, the disbelief in those brown eyes. The man was dangerous. But he was also useful.
With his fake identity at risk of being revealed, having a backup was not a bad idea.
Grinning, he quickly typed a reply.
RogueOverlord: Did you really think I was dumb enough like you to show up?! You need anger management! The way you blew up was so funny, man!
Meanwhile, somewhere in the city, Aidan Wilson, who had just finished a stormy family meeting, saw the message and jumped to his feet. His phone almost cracked in his hands. The veins on his neck throbbed as he read the message again. "That damn brat..." he hissed.
He had missed the Shoele project bidding after that brat’s stunt. Rage had clouded his judgment, he had even shoved a hotel staff member.
In the end, he wasn’t allowed to go to the Shoele project bidding and missed it.
Now his siblings were laughing behind his back, throwing jabs at him, and his mother had coldly reprimanded him for "letting his emotions compromise business."
Aiden was seething, like a loaded gun ready to fire.
AAA: you were there? You really are a coward! Hiding behind others!
RogueOverlord: That means being smart, bro.
AAA: okay. You better enjoy your good days, because when I find you, you will be crawling on my feet, begging for forgiveness.
RogueOverlord: oh wow! What a beautiful dream!
Micah chuckled and exited the chat. Finding the WeChat account of Aidan Wilson( the one he thought was), he sent a message.
RogueOverlord: Glad you listened to my advice. Here, as a reward, I am sending you another tip.
If you have shares in SAFA Pharmaceutical, sell them. They are about to go through a corrupt conduct. Their shares gonna drop like crazy.
He hit sent and tossed the phone aside. Information had value, but trust? That was priceless. If Aidan Wilson bit the bait, Micah would be one step closer to turning this shark into his pawn.
