Chapter 39: I Look Cool, Right? RIGHT?!

Two hours ago:

The sky was a pale blue when Micah guided his sleek, obsidian-black car toward the outskirts of the city. His fingers tapped lightly against the steering wheel, his gaze flicking between the road and the GPS. Just as he turned onto a highway, his phone rang. He reached for it and tapped the answer, switching it to speaker mode.

"Hey, I’m driving," he said, his gaze on the road.

Darcy’s voice came through.

"Oh, just a quick heads up, Nora is with me."

Micah’s hand froze on the steering wheel for a split second before he resumed.

"That’s good. I will be there in a while. Just come to the main street."

"Ok. Drive safe."

Darcy replied, and the call ended with a soft beep.

Micah exhaled through his nose and scratched his chin, his silver-white hair falling slightly over his brow.

His original plan had to be put aside. He had been planning to take Darcy to a private club that specialised in self-defence and shooting stimulation. It wasn’t for fun. Micah wanted to toughen up Darcy for future encounters with those degenerated Gongs. He hoped Darcy wouldn’t be helpless facing them or be dominated easily.

But, of course, Micah’s motivations weren’t purely selfless. The important reason was Micah wanted to show him his forte. The embarrassment from last night’s gaming session still haunted him. He could still hear those teammates snickering when Micah was eliminated seconds after the match began. He lost face completely in front of Darcy. As an older, cool brother, he couldn’t let Darcy think of him as a totally useless fool. So in the future, how could Darcy rely on him? No way, he needed to regain his credibility and dignity and impress him with something he was actually good at.

Micah puffed out his cheeks and blew the air out slowly.

But bringing Nora to shooting range...

Nope, that kinda environment might trigger her. Especially considering her fright facing those hooligans. He couldn’t risk it.

"Let’s wait a bit more to ask her to learn self-defence," Micah muttered to himself.

Micah decided to go do something more childish. Nora was fifteen years old. Surely she would like an amusement park or water playground. Micah was confident he could ace any ride there! He even had medals from competitive swimming when he was younger. If this turned into a water challenge, he would dominate. Micah nodded to himself, a grin slowly tugging at his lips.

By the time he reached the pickup location, Micah spotted the brother and sister easily.

Darcy stood casually on the sidewalk, hands in his pockets, chatting with a petite girl beside him. Nora, with her soft brown hair tied up in a playful ponytail, was watching the street nervously.

He honked once and pulled the car beside them. He rolled down the window, leaning over, and flashed a smile at them.

Meanwhile, Darcy and Nora were talking about Micah.

"Brother, are you sure he’s okay with me tagging along?"

Nora asked shyly.

"Yeah, he said it’s fine." Darcy patted his little sister’s head.

"I don’t remember the last time we hung out together." Nora tried to sound nonchalant, but her voice trembled slightly with excitement.

"I was a bit excited to hear you are free today." Nora tried to downplay it.

Actually, she wanted to see that handsome brother again.

Darcy smiled and gave her a look. Nora instantly ducked her head, her cheeks pink.

Suddenly a car honked. The two jumped, turning their heads. The car was sleek, polished, shiny, and screamed money.

The window slid down, revealing an attractive face framed by snow-white hair. Black-rimmed glasses rested on his nose, giving him a clean look.

Nora and Darcy froze.

Micah saw their dazed expression and belatedly remembered the last time they had seen him, he had black hair with no glasses.

"Hey, am I that different?!"

Micah said with a raised brow.

Darcy’s eyes lit up with recognition, a grin broke across his face.

"More handsome than before." he teased lightly.

"Get in," Micah smirked.

They slid into the car, Darcy in front, and Nora in the back.

Nora’s stunned expression didn’t fade, even after the door clicked shut behind her.

Micah adjusted the rearview mirror to glance at her.

"Nora, are you okay back there?"

She jolted as if someone had pressed a switch.

"Oh my god! This look suits you so much more! You are even better looking than the idols!"

Nora exclaimed, grabbing the back of the driver’s seat and speaking excitedly.

Micah chuckled, brushing his fingers through his hair with smugness.

Darcy sighed. "Nora, sit properly. And put on your seatbelt."

She huffed but obeyed, glancing one more at Micah.

"But seriously! Brother, don’t you agree?!

That night I was all panicked and didn’t notice, but you are really handsome! If you ever go into the entertainment world, I will be your first fan!"

Darcy shook his head. "What about your sweetheart?"

Micah stiffened. "Sweetheart?" his voice went up.

"Do you have a boyfriend? Aren’t you in high school? Didn’t they teach you the dangers of puppy love?! Hey Darcy, you are okay with this!?"

Darcy couldn’t hold in his laugh.

"You misunderstood. Her sweetheart is an actor. That’s his nickname."

Micah relaxed and nodded. "Ah, so that’s it."

Then a thought hit him. Wait. What if Nora was a fan of Leo?!

What if she was also in that Majestic King group? His stomach flipped.

He cleared his throat.

"So...Who’s it?"

"Mani, do you know him?"

Darcy replied.

Micah sighed in relief. Ah, for a second he felt mortified thinking that Nora was a fan of Leo.

Darcy leaned back in his seat, amused.

"You don’t know how giddy she gets when she sees him live streaming. Her room’s plastered with his pictures. She even hugs a pillow with his picture on it every night."

"Hey hey! Brother! Stop!" Nora squeaked, snacking his arm from behind. Her face was tomato red as she buried it in her hands.

Micah listened with a smile but then paused.

Wait, why does the name sound familiar?

"Hold on, isn’t he the one who always has a rivalry with Leo Mckay?"

Micah asked.

"Hey!" Nora shot up again, forgetting her embarrassment.

"That’s not true! His fans are the ones who always pick a fight with us!"

Micah felt incredulous. He stared ahead, imagining the Nora from the novel, a devout Mani fangirl, finding out Leo had become her brother-in-law...

Wouldn’t that be total K.O.?!

Micah nearly winced.

For hardcore fans, this would be a complete mortification. Even for Nora’s sake, he couldn’t let Leo get his hands on Darcy.
