Chapter 962: The Rise of the Purple Spirit

Unperturbed, it grabbed a nearby ghost and, after devouring a few more, regrew its arm.

"Interesting. Let’s see whether you regenerate faster than I can kill you," Kenny Lin’s eyes gleamed with a barely suppressed excitement.

This ghost was obviously different from the others—it was stronger, and it seemed to have a bit of intelligence. Surely it would drop orbs.

Excitement flickered in his gaze as his sword moved continuously, unleashing wave after wave of sword energy without pause.

The sword energy fell all around the ghost, striking down the ones clustered near it one by one. Among the dozens of defeated ghosts, about ten dropped red orbs.

The red orbs, upon touching the ground, were immediately absorbed into Kenny Lin’s palm.

In just a moment, the vibrant red energy orbs dimmed, crumbling into gray ash that sifted through his fingers and scattered on the ground.

The ghost watched this scene, baring its teeth in a furious snarl.

Kenny Lin saw the Yin-Yang Orb in his hand repairing itself ever so slightly, a satisfied look of enjoyment crossing his face. His gaze shifted back to the unique ghost, filled with the thrill of the hunt.

Suddenly, the ghost let out a piercing scream.

Kenny Lin sensed the air quiver slightly, a delighted smile spreading on his face. "Calling for reinforcements? Even better; saves me the trouble of hunting them down myself."

With that, his figure vanished in an instant, reappearing right in front of the ghost. The edge of his sword slashed downward from above.

If the ghost had any hair, it would have stood on end at that moment.

With a wet, slicing sound, the overwhelming sword energy completely extinguished the ghost, leaving a single blue orb amid a pile of black-gray dust.

Kenny Lin stowed away his natal weapon, leaving footprints in the black ash scattered across the ground.

A sharp, shrill cry suddenly echoed, and in a blink, dozens of wandering spirits crowded in through the doorway. They swarmed in with their claws extended, rushing forward in a frenzy.

These spirits emanated a potent aura, and their crimson pupils occasionally flashed red—a sign of having consumed other spirits.

The spirits quickly noticed the blue orb on the ground, its scent luring them in. A few spirits leaped toward it without hesitation. "Dare to steal from me?" Kenny Lin’s figure plunged into the group, leaving a trail of black ash wherever he passed.

A burst of sword energy surged toward the spirit that had already swallowed half of the blue orb.

This spirit raised its hand to block, producing a metallic clink.

The sword energy was deflected.

"Oh? An elusive blue-grade spirit," Kenny Lin observed with interest.

He had named these as "blue-grade spirits," indicating they carried blue energy orbs. The red orbs corresponded to "red-grade spirits."

Intrigued, Kenny Lin ceased his aggressive attacks, allowing the spirit to absorb the entire energy of the blue orb.

The aura of the spirit rapidly intensified, becoming visibly stronger.

"Surpassing the level of a blue-grade spirit?" Kenny Lin advanced, sword in hand.

The red glow in the blue-grade spirit’s eyes grew stronger—a sign of both bloodlust and power.

After devouring the blue orb, the spirit had evidently ascended to a level of strength unknown to Kenny Lin. He could sense an intense, hidden power within it.

Licking his lips, Kenny Lin thought to himself that this spirit’s orb would surely be even more potent than the red or blue orbs.

The empowered spirit crouched down on all fours, baring its teeth, and exuding a deadly aura as it circled around Kenny Lin slowly.

"Strength and intelligence both improved... Could it be that this palace harbors truly intelligent, apex spirits that reign over all?"

Kenny Lin assumed a combat stance. In an instant, the spirit behind him leapt up, its claws growing nearly a meter long, glowing with a menacing purple hue as it swiped at his back.

This strike wouldn’t just tear through flesh; even bone might not be spared.

The claw slashed through Kenny Lin’s body, yet it felt as if it had hit nothing solid.

Sensing something wrong, the spirit dodged left without hesitation. A streak of white sword light slashed past its face, narrowly missing its vital spots but costing it an arm.

Kenny Lin looked up to see the spirit shrinking back into a corner, its crimson eyes filled with fury as it glared at its severed arm—which grew back in the next second.

Spirits were beings largely composed of condensed energy. As long as the orb in their head remained intact, they could regenerate their bodies by consuming the energy within their orbs—a fact Kenny Lin had learned in his encounters with them.

"Quick, clever, and infinitely regenerative? Perfect for sharpening my blade."

Kenny Lin smiled, advancing toward it, then stopped suddenly.

He remembered something. If these orbs could rapidly repair his own Yin-Yang Pearl, couldn’t they also possibly benefit Amalia’s Soltice Ring? It wouldn’t hurt to collect more, just in case.

The spirit noticed Kenny Lin’s figure disappear abruptly and seemed to react, moving away from the corner. A streak of sword energy once again grazed its body.

This time, it wouldn’t be fooled so easily.

With a slicing sound, the spirit’s red eyes widened to their limits. Out of the corner of its eye, it seemed to see its arm once again being severed, despite having dodged.

"Idiot. Who says I can only strike once with a single sword stroke? Intelligence at this level doesn’t quite reach that of a true sentient being." Kenny Lin’s ethereal form appeared beside it.

"Ten Thousand Sword Array."

In an instant, countless strands of white sword energy appeared around him, carefully avoiding Kenny Lin while relentlessly striking the spirit, as if drawn to it like opposite magnetic poles.

The spirit that was filled with sword energy, swelled to its limit and then exploded.

A purple orb, unlike the blue ones, shot out, which Kenny Lin caught mid-air.

"A purple orb?"
