Chapter 960: Ghosts of the Immortal Palace
Chapter 960: Ghosts of the Immortal Palace
Just as he was preparing to go on a killing spree, others who had been transported to various corners of the Immortal Palace began to flee for their lives.
"Run! The ghosts are coming!" a cultivator shouted in panic as he burst out of a room.
Hot on his heels were dozens of ghosts, all with sharp claws bared, their eyes glowing red with madness as if they had lost all rationality.
The two cultivators who are frantic and disoriented, rushed into another room, only to find themselves trapped by walls with nothing else inside.
The ghosts had already charged in, and the only thing they could do was barricade the door.
The two cultivators looked ghastly pale.
"What do we do? We’re doomed! These ghosts don’t seem to leave," one of them said, voice trembling.
"Why are these ghosts so hard to kill? This isn’t fair!" the other cultivator shouted in frustration.
"No wonder everyone says the Immortal Path is so dangerous," one cultivator sighed. "I didn’t take it seriously before. I thought entering the Immortal Monument would give us access to immortal techniques and treasures."
But to their horror, the moment they entered the Immortal Palace, they were immediately confronted by ghosts, and one of their companions had already been killed.
Thinking of the companion who had been gruesomely devoured by several ghosts in front of them, both cultivators paled further, and one of them gagged in disgust.
It was both revolting and terrifying.
"How about we just leave?" one of the cultivators suggested.
The other cultivator paused to think. "No, if we want to find immortal techniques or treasures, this is the best chance. The Immortal Monument is the place with the highest probability, we can’t give up now."
"But these ghosts are impossible to kill!" the other cultivator was on the verge of breaking down.
"It’s impossible," the first cultivator said firmly. "If they exist, there must be a way to kill them. We just haven’t figured it out yet."
At the same time, others were facing similar predicaments—either being hunted by ghosts or fighting back in desperation.
...
In the grand hall of the Immortal Palace, its vastness hinting at the opulence before its ruin, Seongwoo Jin and his two companions found themselves besieged by a swarm of wandering ghosts.
Hanjun Wangye and Chohwan Jin had already departed. Armed with divine artifacts, they just needed a secluded spot to refine them briefly before wielding them with ease.
With these artifacts, their strength would surge significantly. There was no need for them to continue with the group; their alliance had ended the moment they found the Myriad Immortal Monument.
Not long after the two left, Seongwoo Jin’s group encountered these wandering souls.
"These ghosts are unusual. Ordinary attacks are ineffective against them—it seems only the power of the Five Elements can inflict damage to them," Eunbyeol Ling noted calmly.
The three of them were seasoned cultivators, undeterred by minor dangers. Taeseon Lei swung his sword in a sweeping arc, lightning flashing as it struck, and the ghostly wails filled the hall, their auras visibly weakening.
Although lightning was not part of the Five Elements, it had long been seen as a force to dispel evil, making it even more effective against the specters than elemental energy.
"Moreover, these ghosts seem unusually powerful," he observed.
They realized that they had been teleported to a deeper part of the Immortal Palace. Generally, the more treacherous an area, the greater the danger. They suspected that these ghosts were of a higher level.
"Let’s worry about everything else later. Let’s kill these ghosts first," Seongwoo Jin felt a surge of pressure.
The number of wandering souls was overwhelming, and they were extraordinarily perceptive. If this dragged on, they could attract even more ghosts.
Without hesitation, Eunbyeol Ling and Seongwoo Jin launched a full attack.
The sword energy laced with lightning, along with the fire of the Five Elements, cut through the air, but even so, it took a considerable effort to eliminate these ghosts.
Once the ghosts were slain, the ground was littered with black ashes, in which lay several peculiar beads.
"What are these?" Seongwoo Jin picked one up.
"They fell from the ghosts after they died," Amalia’s companion Eunbyeol Ling sensed it for a moment. "There’s an energy inside—it can be absorbed."
She tried absorbing one of the beads and immediately felt her spiritual power deepen, though the effect from just one was not too noticeable. Seongwoo Jin, quickly absorbed two beads and found the effect surprisingly strong.
"These beads must be the essence condensed from the cultivation of these wandering souls," Taeseon Lei remarked, picking up a red bead. "This must be the first trial in the Immortal Palace."
"Then what are we waiting for? Let’s kill more of these ghosts while we explore the palace—maybe we’ll find some immortal cultivation manuals or artifacts!" Eunbyeol Ling decided instantly.
"I agree," Seongwoo Jin nodded, excited after sensing the benefits. "The others will realize the advantages of killing these ghosts soon enough. Once they adapt, the competition will get more fierce."
Eunbyeol Ling shot him a look. "Don’t underestimate the ghosts here. These are likely just the lowest level."
"Believe me, I wouldn’t dare underestimate this place," Seongwoo Jin raised his hands, feigning innocence.
"That’s enough. Let’s get moving," Taeseon Lei cut in, striding toward the palace doors.
Eunbyeol Ling quickly followed, murmuring, "I wonder how Senior Brother Tang and the others are doing now."
"With Senior Brother Tang there, Junior Brother Hsu and the rest will be fine. For all we know, we might be in more danger than they are," Seongwoo Jin replied nonchalantly.
Eunbyeol Ling ignored him.
Although the wandering souls were formidable, their presence here came with some benefits. They soon discovered a hidden storage chamber tucked along the palace’s side.
An Immortal Palace’s storage chamber surely held valuable items, perhaps the ancient manuals or artifacts they sought.
"Could we really be this lucky?" Seongwoo Jin rubbed his hands together.
