Chapter 959: Specters of the Myriad Immortals Monument

Amalia frowned. "You make it sound simple. If comprehending this Path of Chaos were so easy, there wouldn’t be such a lack of it on the Mystic Void Continent."

"Didn’t you say you disagreed with me that the Mystic Void Continent’s talents fall short of the Immortal Realm’s?" The old lady chuckled. "Here’s your chance to prove me wrong."

"To create from nothing is hard; from something to something else is easier," Amalia recognized the old lady’s goading tone, but she had no other choice now.

It seemed there was no avoiding the Path of Chaos.

The old lady shook her head gently. "You’re still thinking too simply. From something to something else is actually harder."

"You truly believe I can comprehend the Path of Chaos in a short time?"

"It’s not about what I believe, but what you must do. Otherwise, even if the Path to All Immortals closes again, you won’t be able to leave. The moment you set foot on the Path of Chaos, you left yourself no retreat."

The old lady seemed to worry she might start doubting, so she added, "But given that you’ve already deciphered the formation here, you might just succeed. This formation is part of the Path of Chaos itself; it all depends on what you can perceive."

Amalia gave the old lady a deep look, then turned around to leave. After all that conversation, she’d gained precious little new insight. It was better to focus her efforts on continuing to analyze the formation.

Seeing her no longer bent on breaking through the formation to escape, the old lady relaxed and entered a meditative state once again.

She would watch and see if one chosen by the Path of Chaos could fulfill her long-held expectations.

Meanwhile, after Kenny Lin entered the Myriad Immortals Monument, the companions who had followed him—Renshu Chang and Jinhwa Hou—did not appear beside him.

This confirmed Jirandal Tang’s words: different doors transported people to different places.

From within one of the open doors, a strange chewing sound echoed.

The strange chewing sound stopped after a few seconds, replaced by approaching footsteps that grew closer with each step.

Suddenly, a faint breeze stirred, and an ugly face appeared just beyond the open doorway, now less than two meters away from Kenny Lin.

Seeing him, the creature with the hideous face lunged forward without hesitation, gripping something in its right hand that, while not bloody, emitted a horrifying wail.

In an instant, Kenny Lin’s natal weapon appeared in his hand, and he slashed downward without a moment’s delay.

The hideous creature let out a shriek as it was shredded by his sword energy, dropping what it held as it disintegrated. The object quickly burrowed back into the doorway, fleeing from sight.

"What kind of strange creature was that?" Kenny Lin was disgusted by its grotesque face.

"These beings seem insubstantial, almost like the ancient primal beasts."

But as he mused, the cries had already drawn other strange entities, their ghostly wails echoing from both ends of the corridor.

Turning around, he saw that around a dozen of these spectral beings had been lured over by the sound.

Sensing the presence of a living being, they let out unhinged howls and rushed toward him.

With two sweeping slashes of his sword, Kenny Lin unleashed dozens of streams of sword energy, striking the creatures right between the eyes.

The energy contained an otherworldly power, so even in their ghostly forms, they couldn’t escape it and were instantly torn to shreds.

Then, with a thud, he heard a strange sound.

Looking over, he noticed that something had fallen from one of the shattered ghosts.

He picked up the object, discovering it to be a red pearl.

Kenny Lin could sense a faint trace of energy within the pearl, as though it stored some kind of power.

At that moment, a weak aura emerged from the end of the corridor.

Turning his gaze, he saw the ghost he had encountered earlier retreating behind the wall, only to peek out again moments later, as if observing him intently.

Though it lacked facial features and normal limbs—unlike the human-like appearance of the ghosts he had just slain—he could feel that it was eyeing the red pearl in his hand.

Kenny Lin tried absorbing it; the energy within the red pearl was instantly drawn into him, causing the pearl to crumble into powder and vanish. Too little energy, he thought dismissively.

But even a small gain was still useful. Most importantly, he noticed that the energy within these red pearls seemed especially effective at repairing the Yin-Yang Pearl.

If the energy from absorbing spiritual power or various materials had a restoration rate of one unit, then the energy from these red pearls had an effect equivalent to two units.

He then directed a sharp, menacing glare down the corridor toward the ghost still peering at him. His eyes, glinting with lethal intent, pierced the darkness.

The ghost immediately began to tremble as if having a seizure. It could feel the killing intent radiating from him and knew he had the power to destroy it entirely.

The next moment, just as the ghost was about to flee, the human cultivator withdrew his gaze.

"You’re so weak that you’re not even worth the effort to kill," Kenny Lin said with disdain.

He had just slain several ghosts, but only one of them had a red pearl, which indicated that not every ghost carried one. He could sense that the ghost with the red pearl was slightly stronger than the others.

This particular shadowy ghost, which seemed to lack any discernible form, was far weaker than the ones he had already slain, and it certainly couldn’t possess a red pearl.

"Whatever strange creatures you are, it’s your bad luck to run into me," Kenny Lin muttered.

With his natal weapon at the ready, he immediately began to focus on finding treasures among the ghosts, though finding Amalia was still his top priority.
