Chapter 931: Challenges and Confidence
"Let’s just stay out of it this time and let the big sects handle it. We’ll sit back and watch them fight. If they wear each other out, all the better," someone commented, aware of the situation’s intensity. The big sects held power because they had more resources and people, and anyone opposing them stood little chance.
Provoking these big sects would only get their talents injured before even entering Path of All Immortals, which wasn’t worth the risk.
"Not even tempted to try?" A voice in the crowd spoke up, sounding slightly mischievous.
Everyone turned their head to see who had spoken; it was Hanjun Wangye, known as Mystic Void’s most handsome man. They sighed and said, "Hanjun Wangye, unlike you, we don’t have a cultivator in Mahayana stage to back us."
"If you’re so interested, why don’t you go for it? Don’t tell me you’re scared of the big sects too?" someone taunted.
"I’m not fond of messy situations, especially not being ganged up on," Hanjun Wangye smirked. "Keep your provocations. Every time a gold token appears, it’s always the big sects fighting over it in the end. When has it ever gone to an individual or small group?"
"He’s right. Let’s sit back and enjoy the show. I have a feeling this battle for the gold token will be more interesting than past ones," someone agreed.
In the end, as Jirandai Tang had said, though many regular challengers wanted to face Kenny Lin, the only ones who dared to come were from the major sects.
The Eternal One Sect had two challengers for Kenny Lin—Temujin Lei and Seonho Ming. The Divine Maiden Sect sent Dayeon Xinyue and Jiae Yao, while other sects sent two each, all in the peak Soul Formation stage. Including the Green Lotus Sect, all eight major sects were involved.
"Are you sure you don’t want to reconsider?" Eunbyeol Ling asked one last time. "All hough it’s an individual decision, it does reflect a bit on the sect’s reputation."
"Are you worried he will lose and bring down the Green Lotus Sect’s name?" Amalia asked, looking at Eunbyeol Ling.
"I’m not saying I’m afraid," Eunbyeol Ling replied, "but martial uncle is the master lian’s disciple, and if he loses, it might damage our Master lian’s reputation. Master Lian isn’t only a symbol of power for the Green Lotus Sect but also a pillar of spirit for many cultivators across Mystic Void Continent."
"We may not have been in the Green Lotus Sect long," Amalia’s gaze swept over everyone present, "but we would never use its reputation or that of the Master Lian lightly. I know you may be wondering why the Master Lian accepted Kenny as a disciple. Today might give you some answers."
Amalia fell silent, allowing everyone to consider her words. She believed in Kenny Lin’s strength.
"Has Martial Uncle decided on the two challengers he’ll accept?" Jirandai Tang stepped forward to ask.
Kenny Lin glanced at him. "It doesn’t matter who they are. Use your own chance first. Since Amalia has agreed to give you my tokens, you’re free to defend them yourselves. If you lose, I won’t be getting them back for you."
Jirandai Tang was briefly taken aback. This martial uncle was more confident than he expected.
"Don’t worry; if we lose, it’s because we aren’t strong enough. We won’t trouble you," Taeseon Lei replied confidently.
Kenny Lin lazily threw them his crystal token as if fulfilling his end of the agreement. Aside from the single token Amalia held, everything was passed to them.
"Wait—aren’t you going to wait for the second or third round of challenges?" Jirandai Tang asked, surprised at how quickly he tossed them over.
"Why wait?" Kenny Lin glanced at him, puzzled.
"I meant just in case," Jirandai Tang explained carefully. "If you lose one gold token in the first challenge, we could at least transfer the second one to someone else."
Kenny Lin looked at him steadily for a moment. "Honestly, I think your idea isn’t necessary. If I can defend both gold tokens, why would I need to hand any over? In my dictionary, there’s no such word as ’lose.’"
Everyone fell silent, realizing that this martial uncle was more arrogant than they thought—he didn’t seem to know the meaning of humility.
"Alright, enough talk. Let’s get this over with," Amalia said, breaking the increasingly tense atmosphere. She then asked Kenny Lin, "So, which two challengers will you choose?"
Kenny Lin grinned, "Of course, Jiheon Yang. But it seems he doesn’t dare to challenge me."
"The Eternal One Sect wouldn’t do anything they’re not confident about. Although Jiheon Yang is strong, they don’t think he’s capable of..."
"A perfect success rate?" Amalia thought for a moment. "Let’s give one of the challenges to the Eternal One Sect."
"Alright, then who for the second challenge? Anyone else you’re particularly annoyed by? If I get the chance, I’ll deal with them."
"Let’s focus," Amalia said seriously. "Let’s pick someone from the ordinary ranks next time. After defeating the top talent from the Eternal One Sect, that should be enough to make a strong impression."
"Alright, I’ll start by accepting the challenge from the Eternal One Sect," Kenny Lin said, his cold gaze fixed on Jiheon Yang like a predator locking onto prey.
Jiheon Yang shivered under his stare, momentarily thinking he would have to fight, only to recall he hadn’t actually challenged him yet.
"He wants to challenge us first? Excellent!" Seonho Ming and Temujin Lei both caught on, with Seonho Ming especially thrilled.
"I was worried he’d save us for the third challenge," Seonho Ming said. "Instead, he just signed his own death warrant."
If Kenny Lin lost his first challenge and then "lost" his second to a teammate, even a third opportunity would be useless.
"He’s using the Green Lotus Sect’s chance early on," Hwejong Xiong mocked with a sneer. "Is he really that confident? Or does he know he’s bound to lose and wants to hand the token to us as a favor so we’ll spare him?"
