Chapter 912: Challenges of Trust and Hierarchy
"What’s going on with Senior Brother Chang? It looked like he saw you but didn’t come over," the senior brother asked curiously.
Junior Brother Hsu glanced briefly at Renshu Chang, who seemed troubled, and replied calmly, "He might have something on his mind."
"What could be more important? Seongwoo Jin has already walked away, and martial aunt and martial uncle aren’t with him anymore. He’s got nothing else to do, so he should’ve come over to talk to you. After all, you’re from the same hometown."
The senior brother lowered his voice and asked, "Do you think maybe Senior Brother Chang feels that hanging out with them is better for him?"
"Senior Brother Dai, please watch what you say. Senior Brother Chang isn’t that kind of person," Junior Brother Hsu said, his expression becoming serious.
"I’m just looking out for you. Fine, I won’t say anything more," Senior Brother Dai said, but then noticed Junior Brother Hsu’s expression change. He turned around and saw Renshu Chang walking over.
"Junior Brother Hsu, Senior Brother Dai, you’re both here."
Renshu Chang had thought it over and realized he needed to talk to Junior Brother Hsu. Keeping things unsaid would only make it harder for both of them.
"Senior Brother, haven’t you been spending all your time with martial uncle and martial aunt? What brings you over here now?" Junior Brother Hsu said expressionlessly.
Senior Brother Dai glanced at him, realizing that, despite his earlier words, Junior Brother Hsu was clearly bothered by the situation.
Renshu Chang sighed inwardly, confirming that Junior Brother Hsu did feel uneasy about it. Still, he casually replied, "They’re martial uncle and martial aunt, and I’m a disciple of the sect leader. If I don’t take care of them, who will?"
The dark cloud over Junior Brother Hsu’s head seemed to clear all of a sudden, and he looked a little embarrassed as he asked, "Is that really the reason?"
"What did you think it was? The martial uncle and martial aunt are our age, so we can talk to them easily. We can’t expect an elder or peak master to take care of them, right?" Renshu Chang replied, half laughing, half exasperated.
"That makes sense," Junior Brother Hsu said with a goofy smile.
Senior Brother Dai shook his head to himself. As soon as Renshu Chang spoke, Junior Brother Hsu’s mind seemed to turn to mush.
"Have you figured out everything about Path of All Immortals?" Renshu Chang asked, feeling more at ease now.
"My master told me about it, and the sect leader said an elder will explain more on the airship. You don’t have to worry about me, Senior Brother. I’ll just chat with Senior Brother Dai." Junior Brother Hsu was now feeling ashamed for doubting Renshu Chang earlier, and he could barely face him.
"Alright then, you two chat. We’ll catch up later," Renshu Chang said with a smile, patting Junior Brother Hsu’s shoulder before heading over to Seongwoo Jin.
Seongwoo Jin was looking off into the distance, but when someone blocked his view, he realized it was Renshu Chang and grinned. "What, finished talking to Junior Brother Hsu already?"
"Senior Brother Jin, don’t joke like that anymore. You’re going to make it seem like you’re trying to stir up trouble between us. Do you know my master is the sect leader?" Renshu Chang said seriously.
Seongwoo Jin chuckled. "Stir up trouble? Come on, I was just sharing my thoughts. Under the circumstances, having doubts like that is pretty normal, isn’t it?"
"Whether it’s normal or not, people who think that way clearly have a bit of a dark mindset. When my master retires, and I’m in charge of the Green Lotus Sect, what do you think will happen?" Renshu Chang asked, staring at him calmly.
Seongwoo Jin’s smile stiffened, and he shook his head with a sigh. "Our master always said you were the most easygoing disciple in Green Lotus Sect, but I don’t see it."
"That’s because no one’s ever pushed me to my limit. Even the calmest person has boundaries. It’s fine if you say those things to me, but don’t say them to anyone else. Not everyone has my patience," Renshu Chang said, his tone meaningful.
Seongwoo Jin glanced over at Amalia and Kenny Lin, who had just finished talking to Elder Chang and were walking over. Rubbing his nose, he said, "Alright, I get it. You’ve surprised me today."
"Thanks for the compliment," Renshu Chang replied before heading over to Amalia and Kenny Lin.
"Did Seongwoo Jin make you mad?" Amalia asked as soon as Renshu Chang walked up.
Renshu Chang paused. "Was it that obvious? Well, yeah, a little. But it’s all sorted out now. Senior Brother Jin just has a bit of a loose tongue sometimes."
"That just means the punishment last time wasn’t enough. You know the saying, ’A gentleman’s revenge can wait ten years.’ Once you become the sect leader and he’s still a senior to the younger disciples, let’s see if he can keep his pride," Amalia said with a grin.
Renshu Chang blinked in surprise, noticing Seongwoo Jin’s expression turned stiff. He almost burst out laughing.
"Are you silly? Renshu Chang isn’t like the junior disciples you usually pick on. He’s going to be the next sect leader of the Green Lotus Sect," Jinhwa Hou said, instinctively reaching for his wine flask. Unfortunately, it was empty, and he sighed with regret.
After last year’s incident, the elder had given his master a scolding, and he’d ended up with no alcohol at all.
"Do you have any wine? Give me a sip," Jinhwa Hou asked, grabbing Seongwoo Jin’s arm.
Seongwoo Jin glanced at him and said, "I get it, not having wine is rough, but do you think I’d dare give you any right now?"
"Without wine, I have no motivation to do anything! Why am I even going to Path of All Immortals?" Jinhwa Hou ruffled his hair, which soon looked like a bird’s nest.
