Chapter 74: Meeting Samuel
Chapter 74: Meeting Samuel
Leaving Mikel’s residence, Samuel didn’t head home. Now standing in front of Amalia’s chilly apartment, he always though Amalia would ask him to send the artifact through expresa delivery.
Amalia never revealed her identity, so he assuming the other party would maintain secrecy. But unexpectedly, she promptly gave him an address and instructed him to deliver the package there.
Click. The door was opened.
Samuel glanced up, and about to call out, only to realize the door had indeed opened, but it was the opposite of Amaliandoor. Instinctively, he glanced over and his eyes froze instantly.
"Are you here to deliver something to Amalia?" Kenny Lin’s voice echoed dreamily in the empty stairwell.
A man, oddly wearing a baseball cap indoors, but that didn’t seem to be the focal point. In the somewhat gloomy stairwell, the man’s presence was like a spotlight, commanding a strong and vivid presence.
Beneath the cap, his deep and lazy eyes gazed out, he leaning casually against the wall. Not to mention the impeccably proportioned face, it was almost as if sculpted by the hands of God.
When Samuel heard the words "Amalia." from him, he Assuming he was a friend of Amalia’s, he was about to speak when Amalia’s apartment door swung open.
"Samuel?"
Samuel turned, and suddenly came face-to-face with an equally stunning beautiful face. Contrasting Kenny Lin’s lazy demeanor, this face appeared colder and more indifferent, with an even sharper, timeless beauty and a profoundly sharp aura.
"Are you Ms. Vanquez?" Samuel regained his senses, uncertainly asking.
"Yeah, come in." Amalia gestured, stepping aside.
Samuel entered, and without hesitation, Amalia promptly closed the door.
Samuel couldn’t resist the urge to look back at the handsome man who left outside the closed door, and being ignored. He restrained himself from asking, and pulling out an artifact, saying, "Ms. Vanquez, this belongs to Young Master Sabate."
"Call me Amalia, that’s fine. Thank you," Amalia accepted the artifact.
Seeing Amalia’s response, Samuel turned to tend to his own matters. Observing the extremely modest apartment, which lacking even a table for tea, he decisively abandoned his plan to stay and get close to her further.
The truth was that he had already foreseen the awkward and silent scene between the two. "I’ve delivered the item, so I’ll take my leave."
Amalia was stunned for a moment, she then realize that she probably should have entertained the guest. Unused to such hospitality for centuries, she lacked this habit. Out of courtesy, she said, "Leaving so soon? Not staying for a while?"
"No, I have some matters at the office to attend to." Samuel shook his head, noticing there’s only one cup in the entire room, it clearly indicating that Amalia’s apartment never received visitors.
Amalia didn’t insist and sent him to the door.
Glancing at the opposite door, Samuel noticed the handsome man in the baseball cap had already vanished.
Once Samuel left, Amalia turned around and begin repairing Mikel’s artifact.
Although she was confident, she hadn’t repaired this kind of artifact before. The fact that the artifact itself was transformed into a complete formation indicated the formidable skill of the artificer who made it.
She had attempted to create artifacts with self-contained formations before, which is failing initially but gradually succeeding later on. However, she could only craft Beginner level formations-type artifact because of her limited understanding of formations.
Amalia retrieved several scrolls about formations from the Soltice Ring. She had absorbed these contents, but delving deeper required more practical experience.
Samuel was unaware that before his arrival, Amalia had been thinking about the formations. Inside the room, there were numerous black ashes on the floor, which was the remnants from the formation crafting process.
Mikel had given her the same three days as Master Juan, but Amalia felt it wasn’t necessary. She secluded herself for a day, tirelessly working from morning till night without eating or drinking, solely to understand Mikel’s artifact thoroughly, and aiming for a 100% success rate.
At that time, she had mentally rehearsed it thousands of times. If those attempts were translated onto A4 paper, the floor would have been covered in drafts.
When Samuel received another call from Amalia, and he was shocked. "Amalia? Didn’t Young Master Sabate give you three days? You’ve repaired it in just a day and a half?"
Amalia showed him Mikel’s artifact. "Actually, this artifact’s difficulty isn’t that high. If it were a advanced level artifact, I wouldn’t be 100% sure."
After all, her understanding about formations was still insufficient. The formations used in advanced level artifacts were much more profound and complex than intermediate and beginner level artifact.
Samuel swallowed his saliva slowly, thinking that if Master Juan heard this, he would probably be so annoyed that he would vomit blood. Amalia not only accomplished the task but also claimed it wasn’t that difficult.
As he beheld the artifact Amalia handed to him, he couldn’t contain the sense of disbelief in his eyes. Having seen the original blueprint, it was identical in every detail.
The size of the artifact seemed slightly smaller, and the protruding parts seemed more subdued, including the totem mark, which was exceptionally clear. The only thing uncertain now was the artifact’s functionality.
However, upon seeing Amalia’s calm expression, Samuel’s heart also relaxed a hundred and twentyfold. If this composed approach didn’t yield success, he thought, how blind must his own eyes be?
"I’ll go get the artifact right away," Samuel pausedfor a moment, and said: "Amalia, can I ask you a question?"
"What’s the question?"
"If Young Master Sabate asks for your contact information or residence, should I refuse to disclose it or tell him directly?" He believed that given Young Master Sabate’s nature, he would surely inquire about this, so he wanted to preemptively address it to her first.
"If he asks, just tell him," Amalia replied without hesitation.
"But if you do that, that guy Yannis might set his sights on you. He knows I’ve obstructed him, so he’ll surely investigate you, and I have no idea what big move he’s planning recently. I’m certain he won’t let it go and might already be setting traps for us," Samuel expressed his concerns.
"If Yannis can find me, then so can Mikel," Amalia said, ever since she called Samuel over, she hadn’t considered that her identity could remain hidden. As for how long she could conceal it from the Rodriguez, that was uncertain.
Samuel understood and carefully put away the artifact.
...
"Samuel went out today?" Yannis had stationed people around the area where Amalia was selling her wares for the past two days. Surprisingly, Samuel hadn’t shown up afterward. He had the situation monitored, and within a day, news emerged.
"Absolutely, the Salvador is currently in a frenzy. Samuel leaving the company and heading to that kind of neighborhood looks very suspicious. Most likely, that artificer is lives there!" the subordinate confidently remarked.
Satisfied, Yannis nodded but suddenly grew concerned. His expression shifted slightly. "Where is Samuel now?"
"He left the neighborhood," the subordinate replied, puzzled.
"Fool! Find out where he is immediately!" Yannis roared in anger. He had forgotten that Samuel wouldn’t visit the artificer’s residence unless there was a reason. It was highly likely that the artifact had been repaired.
His subordinates were bewildered by the sudden change in their boss’s demeanor. They hurriedly contacted the trackers that following Samuel and soon received an update.
"According to the latest report, it seems Samuel is heading towards Tierra Viva."
Tierra Viva was one of the most upscale villa areas in Big Apple City, where Mikel currently resided.
Yannis’s expression changed rapidly. He worried about whether the artifact had been repaired and was simultaneously stunned by the speed of that esteemed artificer.
Master Juan took a full three days to complete the task initially, and nearly missing the deadline. Yet, the esteemed artificer managed it in just a day and a half.
If he hadn’t prepared ahead, and sending people to monitor Samuel, his plan would have been ruined once Samuel handed over the artifact to Mikel.
Yannis immediately summoned someone over.
The person arrived swiftly, it was muscular and robust man thag exuding a dominating aura. He was a Spirit Cultivator named Sandro.
The Yoder was one of the most powerful and influential families in Big Apple City. In order to consolidate their position, they had nurtured several Spirit Cultivators under their control.
Yannis had two Spirit Cultivator under his command, and Sandro was one of them.
"Samuel is heading to Tierra Viva. You must intercept him before he arrives and seize this artifact," Yannis handed Sandro a picture of Samuel along with images of the artifact.
Sandro saved the images. "Rest assured, I’ll handle this matter."
Satisfied, Yannis thought that once the artifact was seized, Samuel would have nothing to appease Mikel’s fury. He wouldn’t need to intervene; Mikel would tear Samuel apart.
Afterward, he would pretend to recovering the artifact and present it to Mikel, it’s killing two bird with one stone.
...
Inside the apartment, Amalia focused intently on the almost completed artifact.
After repairing Mikel’s artifact, she unexpectedly gained some insights into artifacts related to formations.
Once Samuel left, she seized the opportunity to solidify these insights by immediately crafting one. As it neared completion, an abrupt sneering sound echoed through the room, and the almost-formed artifact disintegrated into ashes and fragments.
Amalia stared at the pile of useless scraps that had become obsolete and couldn’t be reused, a hint of confusion flickering in her eyes. Just moments ago, an inexplicable annoyance had surfaced within her, leading to the failure of the artifact that could have succeeded.
This sensation was something she had read about in a scroll within the Soltice Ring—a natural kind of sensitivity, akin to intuition. For an artificer, encountering such a situation usually meant something bad was about to happend.
At that moment, a knock interrupted her thoughts.
