Chapter 517: Sea Of Death (Part 8)
"Of course," Wealth replied with a smug grin, making a triumphant gesture with his paw.
"Where is it?" the mutated sea turtle asked eagerly.
"The black fragment is actually hidden nearby," Wealth said, glancing at the slowly approaching Amalia and Kenny Lin, his smile growing even more smug and proud.
The mutated sea turtle pressed further, "Where exactly?"
Wealth glanced behind the turtle, "Right behind you."
With that, he turned and bolted away.
The mutated sea turtle suddenly felt a massive threat forming behind it.
As it turned its head, a black sword light came slashing down, slicing through its tough shell.
The mutated sea turtle had no time to react.
In its final moments, it couldn’t comprehend why a mutated creature would ally with two humans to ambush it.
"Stop running," Amalia said to Wealth.
Wealth immediately scampered back, glanced at the thoroughly dead mutated sea turtle, and stuck out his tongue, "That’s what you get for threatening me."
"Let’s get out of here," Kenny Lin said while flying back.
Amalia grabbed Wealth, and they quickly left the area.
Not long after they departed, the marine-type mutated creatures that was drawn by the scent of blood, arrived and began ravenously devouring the sea turtle’s flesh.
If the body had been intact, they might not have been able to pierce its tough shell.
Soon after, these marine-type mutated creatures sensed another powerful presence rapidly approaching them and they’re scattered in fear.
A few slow ones were directly caught by the owner of this strong aura.
"What happened here?"
A massive blue octopus appeared, its several tentacles wrapping around the captured marine-type mutated creatures and lifting them up.
Its cold voice echoed in their minds.
"Please don’t be angry, sir. It wasn’t us. We couldn’t have broken through the sea turtle’s defense," the captured mutated creatures immediately pleaded.
"I know it wasn’t you," the blue octopus said.
The fatal wound on the sea turtle had an aura that clearly indicated it was the work of humans.
"Tell me everything you saw."
The marine-type mutated creatures looked at each other, they haven’t seen nothing but the sea turtle’s bisected corpse when they arrived.
Some had witnessed the sea turtle’s rage but they’re fled in fear.
They don’t see Wealth entirely due to its small size.
Seeing they truly had no useful information, the blue octopus released them.
"Sir, this situation doesn’t add up. If the sea turtle had discovered the black fragment, why didn’t it report it?" one of the subordinates asked.
The blue octopus replied, "Don’t speculate wildly. It’s possible it was silenced by the humans who discovered it."
Another subordinate chimed in, "The sir is right. The sea turtle clan has always been loyal to the King and would never betray him. But the humans have already escaped. Where do we find them now?"
The blue octopus pondered for a moment, "Ask another marine creature. Someone must have seen something. This is our only lead. If we miss it, finding the fragments again will be difficult."
When the King decided to retrieve all the black fragments, all preparations were already made, they’re even considering the fragments in human hands.
Unexpectedly, the mishap occurred with the black fragments belonging to the Imuji and other high-level mutated creatures, stolen by unknown humans.
Now, they’re finally having a clue about these fragments again, so they couldn’t miss this opportunity.
Amalia and Kenny Lin took Wealth to a place farther from the Sea of Death before stopping.
There were no islands nearby, so they couldn’t go ashore.
Instead, they found a coral reef and used the massive corals for cover, placing Wealth on a sand-red coral.
"Now it’s your time to perform," Amalia thought for a moment and, as usual, handed Wealth a few spirit beads.
Wealth thought to itself that crystal cores would be even better, but they were too big to use for the performance.
It only wished for it briefly, knowing its owner would never agree.
However, the situation this time was too complicated.
Wealth pondered for a while but didn’t know where to start explaining.
Seeing its difficulty, Amalia also realized the problem.
"This time it’s tough. Your dad and I will guess it, and if we’re wrong, you can correct us," Amalia suggested, finding a compromise.
Not having to think too hard itself, Wealth eagerly nodded its little head in agreement.
"Do you want to start, or should I?" Amalia looked at Kenny Lin.
"You go ahead. I’ll add anything if needed," Kenny Lin replied.
"Alright," Amalia nodded.
They had already pieced together some clues about the matter, but without concrete evidence, they couldn’t be sure.
"Your father said that the mutated creature might be voluntarily guarding that place and that it has something to do with the black fragments," Amalia said while watching Wealth.
Wealth nodded its head continuously.
"If this assumption is correct, then that mutated creature..." Amalia continued but was interrupted by Wealth, who arranged the spirit beads into a word.
"King? Are you saying that the mutated creature is called ’King’?" Amalia guessed.
Wealth gave a thumbs-up.
Kenny Lin chuckled, "It must be what the other marine-type mutated creatures call it. It seems its status is indeed very high. In the ocean, being called a ’king’ might not be just about strength. I remember during the Twilight Abyss Waters incident, the other mutated creatures referred to someone as ’Lord.’"
"Maybe it’s different creatures. The ’King’ is one thing, and the ’Lord’ is another," Amalia suggested.
"Perhaps. But this means that humans are dealing with something extraordinary. The ’Lord’ might be more powerful than those at Twilight Abyss Waters, and the ’King’ could be even stronger," Kenny Lin said.
"Didn’t your father and his team try to probe the ’King’s’ strength?" Amalia asked.
"Actually, the ’King’ has barely appeared at all. Even during the last ambush by humanity’s top-tuer spiritual cultivators, the only time it made an appearance was through a long-distance attack, which severely injured Elder Galdin from the Spiritual Cultivators Association," Kenny Lin replied.
"Let’s not dwell on that. Moving on, is the ’King’ voluntarily guarding that thing?" Amalia looked at Wealth, who hesitated, then nodded and shook its head.
"Half right, half wrong? So, one part of ’voluntarily’ and ’guarding’ is true. If ’voluntarily’ is true, then ’guarding’ isn’t? That thing doesn’t need guarding?" Amalia speculated.
Wealth nodded its head excitedly and gave a thumbs-up, impressed by its owner’s intelligence.
Amalia exhaled a breath.l, "It seems it’s about suppression, and the black fragments are likely one of the means to suppress that thing. In the past, that thing might not have been active, so the ’King’ used the black fragments as rewards for its meritorious subordinates. Later, when the thing became restless, the ’King’ realized that a complete black crystal could suppress it, and thus, recalled the fragments."
"But with a few black fragments in our hands, their black crystal can never be complete. They’re likely searching for the ones we have now. That mutated sea turtle must have known this. It didn’t take you to find the ’King’ but instead moved far from the Sea of Death, which means it didn’t agree with using a complete black crystal to suppress that thing, right?" Amalia asked.
