Chapter 500: Emergency (Part 3)
The guards dared not stop her anymore.
When they saw Mr. Lin, everyone else was asked to leave.
Elder Galdin from the Spiritual Cultivator Association had been moved to another room.
Mr. Lin’s vitality was weak, but his spirit seemed good, not like someone who was severely injured.
"Father, what happened exactly? Elder Fischer and the others were taken away to report, but they are excluding elder brother," Tony Lin, being impatient, immediately asked him upon entering.
Mr. Lin signaled to his second son, and Albert Lin nodded slightly.
"I called you here to explain what happened. The government sent us to attack the mutated creature because they suspected it was preparing to break through. We were to disrupt its plans, but..."
At this point, Mr. Lin’s expression grew heavy.
"Something complicated happened," he said, revealing a severity that indicated the situation was worse than expected.
"Could it be...?" Albert Lin’s brow furrowed.
Mr. Lin understood what his son was thinking and shook his head slightly, "Not what you’re thinking. The complexity lies with the mutated creature. You’ve heard of it but never seen it, right?"
"Yes, we’ve never seen it," Albert Lin nodded.
Amalia was surprised.
Given Albert Lin’s position in the military, he should have seen it.
"Father, did you discover something unusual when you went there? But this doesn’t make sense. If there were something unusual, wouldn’t you have noticed it during your previous investigations?"
Tony Lin assumed this because Mr. Lin had always been forthright with his sons, except for Kenny, who was often away.
"So, you’re just spouting nonsense," Kenny Lin said coldly while glancing at him.
Tony Lin felt momentarily speechless, wondering if his younger brother could read his mind.
As he had just been complaining inwardly
The tension in the room eased slightly due to the brothers’ exchange.
Albert Lin seemed to understand Amalia’s doubts and explained softly, "Don’t let Kenny’s cold demeanor fool you. Although my little brother is cold faced, cold hearted, and doesn’t like to talk much to others, but he’s actually the one who lightens the mood in our family."
Amalia agreed with this, though she felt the previous statements needed more consideration.
This guy was a master at hiding his true feelings, more so than anyone else.
"Alright, let’s get down to business," Mr. Lin said with a smile, the heaviness on his brow dissipating considerably.
"You’ve never seen that mutated creature because it can’t leave that place."
Everyone was surprised by this revelation.
"Why can’t it leave?" Tony Lin asked, bewildered.
"At first, it was just a guess. Later, after several provocations, we discovered that, apart from showing anger, it wouldn’t leave that place. That’s when we confirmed it."
"Why can’t it leave? Is there something keeping it there? Is it staying willingly, or is it being forced? Is it the price of its strength?" Amalia asked, her eyes full of curiosity.
Mr. Lin looked at her, his eyes filled with appreciation, "The authorities believed that it’s not staying there willingly. They think it has something to do with the black fragments. It can’t leave unless it successfully transforms. That’s why they see this as our best chance."
"Then what did you mean when you said it’s not that simple? Is there more to this?" Albert Lin asked, his expression serious.
Mr. Lin’s face grew solemn, "Because I suspect it is staying there willingly."
Everyone’s expressions changed simultaneously.
The difference between willing and unwilling in this context was significant, especially given the circumstances.
"Why would it stay there willingly? What is there that attracts it? Does that thing benefit it somehow? I don’t understand. And what does it have to do with the black fragments?" Tony Lin shook his head, clearly puzzled.
Albert Lin and Amalia exchanged glances, both considering a troubling possibility.
"If it’s staying there willingly, there might be something of great importance to it. Something that, if disturbed, could lead to catastrophic consequences," Albert Lin suggested.
"That’s one possibility. But I can’t be sure," Mr. Lin admitted, "However, I had a feeling at the time that if it were to die, it might trigger some severe consequences."
"Dad, so your injuries were caused by this? The others didn’t believe your suspicions, and you had a disagreement with Elder Fischer and the others?" Tony Lin is a general and he thought further ahead.
Mr. Lin’s expression remained calm, "They didn’t believe me, but as a top-tier spiritual cultivator I trust my intuition more."
Tony Lin sighed, "The most important thing now is to find out what the mutated creature is willingly guarding and whether it poses a threat to Earth. If it does, then humanity’s greatest enemy is no longer just the mutated creatures."
Mr. Lin added, "The thing that gave me a sense of danger is underwater. This is one of my main reasons for concern."
Tony Lin understood his father’s thinking.
If that thing erupted, the first affected wouldn’t be humans but the mutated creatures living underwater.
This could explain why the mutated creature willingly guards that place.
However, all this is just speculation for now. To convince the authorities, they need solid evidence.
Otherwise, in future major operations, the authorities might exclude the Lin family.
While they could handle it, it would give others opportunities to exploit.
"I’ll visit the other elders to hear their thoughts," Tony Lin said.
"Go ahead. This matter is of great importance," Mr. Lin advised solemnly.
Tony Lin nodded his head, "I understand."
The recent operation organized by the authorities ended in failure.
Although no top-tier spiritual cultivators were lost, it alerted the mutated creatures, making them more vigilant.
The authorities were displeased, especially since Elder Galdin from the Spiritual Cultivator Association was severely injured and still unconscious.
Not long after the Lin family left, the representatives from the authorities arrived to question Mr. Lin about the situation.
They had already gathered details from the other top-tier spiritual cultivators and wanted to see if Mr. Lin’s account matched theirs.
If it didn’t, they would suspect Mr. Lin of lying.
Fortunately, there were no discrepancies.
