Chapter 499: Emergency (Part 2)

With the new year having passed, the streets of the royal durian capital city were once again bustling and congested.

The noise and excitement masked the desolation.

People carried on with happy smiles or worried expressions, all striving for their livelihoods, unaware that these days might be limited.

Three streaks of light quickly streaked across the royal durian capital city’s sky, landing in the military headquarters.

Since his return, Mr. Lin had been in the military headquarters, which was heavily guarded inside and out.

"Elder brother, how is father?" Seeing Albert Lin standing outside the door, Tony Lin quickly walked over.

Albert Lin glanced at them and sighed, "Bernando Houssay and a few other Water-type and Wood-type spiritual cultivators are inside, treating our father and Elder Galdin from the Spiritual Cultivator Association."

"What exactly happened?" Kenny Lin asked, his eyes radiating cold indifference.

Albert Lin didn’t intend to hide anything this time.

He had the others stay behind and said to them, "Follow me."

He led them to a secluded room.

"If you have any questions, ask now," Albert Lin said as he turned around.

"Why is father severely injured?" Kenny Lin asked coldly.

This was the question on everyone’s mind.

"I’ll start from the beginning," Albert Lin said, "This was a decapitation plan. The government discovered anomalies in the depths of the central disaster zone a few months ago. The theft of the black fragments happened around that time."

"The government has a special team stationed in the depths of the central disaster zone year-round. After noticing these anomalies, they conducted a covert investigation and confirmed that the anomalies were related to the mutated creature."

"We suspect that the mutated creature is trying to use all the black fragments to break through. If it succeeds, it would be a disaster for humanity."

"You’ve also noticed the increased activity of the mutated creatures in the central disaster zone over the past few months. This is a sign of an impending all-out war with humans."

"But the real threat comes from the mutated creature preparing to break through. It has already reached the peak of Level 15. We suspect that if it breaks through, it would enter a true immortal cultivation stage, which for mutated creatures would mean transforming into a human form."

Tony Lin asked, "So the government sent our father and the others to kill it before it transforms to eliminate the threat?"

Albert Lin nodded. "That was the plan, but something went wrong midway."

"What went wrong?"

"Father was sent for treatment immediately upon his return, so I haven’t asked yet. Elder Fischer and the others who returned with him are reporting to the higher-ups. To know the full story, we’ll have to wait for their report or until father wakes up. But..." Albert Lin’s brows furrowed deeply.

"But what?" everyone asked anxiously.

"But Elder Fischer looked grim. Something major must have happened," Albert Lin said, his heart filled with worry for his father.

"Elder brother, how many top-tier spiritual cultivators participated in this raid?" Amalia asked.

Albert Lin said, "There were seven in total, one each from the Lin, Zhao, Rodriguez, and Yoder families, and three from the government, the military, and the Spiritual Cultivator Association. No one died, but two were severely injured, and the rest were lightly injured."

Elder Fischer was the government representative.

"Did the Rodriguez and Yoder families cause trouble again?"

Given their history, it wasn’t surprising to be suspicious.

"They wouldn’t dare unless they don’t want their descendants to have a stable living environment."

Amalia then asked, "Why were the only severely injured ones Mr. Lin and Elder Galdin from the Spiritual Cultivator Association?"

Albert Lin paced around, "That’s what I want to know. But..."

"But the government seems to be deliberately avoiding you," Amalia interjected smoothly.

Albert Lin gave her a surprised look.

"This suggests that the problem likely comes from within," Amalia added.

"Again with the internal conflicts. Do they really think it’s our father’s fault? Don’t they know how much he wants to stabilize the central disaster zone?" Tony Lin paced around the room in frustration, "Otherwise, what top-tier spiritual cultivators would stay in the disaster zone for decades without leaving?"

"Calm down, third brother. It’s just my guess," Amalia said, trying to soothe him.

Tony Lin sneered, "If it’s just a guess, why are they avoiding elder brother? It’s obvious they don’t want him to know something!"

"Our Lin family has invested so much manpower and effort into the central disaster zone over the years. Unlike the Yoder and Rodriguez families, who contribute nothing and only think about seizing power and exploiting others. They never handle things seriously. If it weren’t for Kenny, they’d continue hiding and staying silent."

"When it’s time to contribute, they hide, but when there’s something to gain, they rush in."

Albert Lin gently rebuked him after he finished speaking, "That’s enough. Don’t say such things outside."

Tony Lin opened his mouth but ultimately said nothing more.

He was just venting his anger.

Amalia, watching the more composed Albert Lin, had her own speculations.

Even though the government and Elder Fischer avoided the Lin family, the truth would eventually come out.

But before that, the few healer that was treating Mr. Lin and Elder Galdin emerged after three hours of effort.

"Mr. Lin’s injuries are severe. We’ve only stabilized his condition. He won’t recover anytime soon," Bernando Houssay informed them.

As long as Mr. Lin was okay, the Lin family members present all breathed a sigh of relief.

"And Elder Galdin?" they asked.

Bernando Houssay paused for a moment, "His condition is worse than Mr. Lin’s. We’ll do our best."

That meant things were still very bad.

"You can go see Mr. Lin now. He has something to tell you," Bernando Houssay said, patting Albert Lin’s shoulder before leaving with his team.

Mr. Lin had only asked to see his family.

When Amalia tried to enter, she was stopped.

"She’s part of our family too," Kenny Lin said coldly, his red eyes gleaming with a chilling light.
