Chapter 460: The End Of The War (Part 6)

They could understand Kenny Lin’s exceptional strength since he was known as the top talent in the country.

However, they were surprised by Amalia’s abilities as they had investigated her and knew she had not been cultivating for very long time.

Yolanda Yoder detected the disbelief and skepticism in their voices and smiled wryly, "Yes, she has surprised me so many times. But..."

Yolanda Yoder then laughed happily, "Given her exceptional talent, I feel relieved. Considering how talented my brother and Grandpa Fernando were, it’s natural that she, as their descendant, possesses such extraordinary abilities. Her growing strength will only benefit us all."

"That’s true," the guards agreed, now feeling more optimistic.

"Hello, Aunt," Amalia greeted Yolanda Yoder as she approached.

"You’re here; come inside," Yolanda Yoder nodded, leading them into the courtyard.

The courtyard was well-guarded both inside and out.

"Usually, there aren’t this many people here, but times have changed," Yolanda Yoder explained as they walked.

Previously, they kept a low profile to avoid drawing attention to the courtyard’s special nature.

However, the enmity with the Yoder family had escalated to a critical point, and who knew what Raithwall Yoder might do next time.

Neither Florentino Yoder nor Yolanda Yoder could afford to take risks, so they had stationed guards to prevent anyone from intruding.

"Are these people your and great-uncle’s subordinates?" Amalia asked, noticing some of the guards looked familiar.

"Not exactly; rather, they are a group of like-minded individuals who share the same goal," Yolanda Yoder responded."

Yolanda Yoder didn’t go into much detail, but Amalia could guess what was happening.

These people were likely those who had been persecuted by the Yoder family.

However, there weren’t many of them.

Under the Yoder family’s surveillance, gathering even this small group was no easy feat.

Yolanda Yoder led them through the courtyard to a room.

Even before they entered, the sound of coughing could be heard from inside.

Amalia paused for a moment, but Yolanda Yoder had already pushed the door open.

The room was modestly furnished, and she could take in its entire contents at a glance.

Fernando Yoder lay on a rattan chair.

His face was even paler than when they had last seen him on a video call, with little to no color in his cheeks.

"Why are you so..."

Fernando Yoder spoke while raising his head.

but his gaze quickly fell on Amalia who was standing next to Yolanda Yoder, and his voice trailed off.

A moment later, his body shook, and he tried to stand, excitedly asking, "Why did you come here?"

Yolanda Yoder quickly stepped forward to support him, "Uncle Fernando, take it easy. Don’t rush."

Fernando Yoder tapped her arm, "Why didn’t you tell me Amalia was coming?"

Yolanda Yoder smiled, "I wanted to surprise you."

"You rascal," Fernando Yoder said, half laughing, and then looked at Amalia, speaking softly, "Why did you come suddenly?"

Amalia glanced at Yolanda Yoder, then said, "I came to see you."

Fernando Yoder’s eyes grew moist, "It’s enough that you cared to come."

Yolanda Yoder stepped aside, and after a moment’s hesitation, Amalia moved forward to take her place.

She took hold of Fernando Yoder’s arms.

Beneath his clothes, his bones were frail and thin, and under his skin, veins were visibly bulging.

Up close, the dark circles under his eyes were more pronounced, indicating that his illness was severe.

Amalia lowered her gaze.

Yolanda Yoder didn’t want to interrupt their conversation, so she turned around to leave the room.

Noticing that Kenny Lin was standing at the door without any intention of leaving, she gave him a look to indicate he should step out.

Kenny Lin pretended not to notice her, staying put.

He saw this as his chance to meet Amalia’s grandfather and didn’t want to leave.

Yolanda Yoder’s lips twitched.

She could tell exactly what was going on, but let it slide.

She didn’t dare directly drag him away, even though she was Amalia’s biological aunt.

Yet, Kenny Lin dared to show this attitude toward her.

After she left the room, Yolanda Yoder closed the door behind her.

Twenty minutes later, Amalia and Kenny Lin came out.

"Grandpa has already fallen asleep," Amalia informed Yolanda Yoder.

Yolanda Yoder was not surprised.

Given Uncle Fernando’s current condition, staying alert for twenty minutes was already quite good.

She then took Amalia to see Florentino Yoder.

"Have you met your grandfather?"

Florentino Yoder’s injuries had mostly healed, and he looked much better than he had on the day he was hurt.

"Yes, I have. I wanted to ask about Mr. Houssay," Amalia got straight to the point.

Florentino Yoder had been expecting this question, and his mood grew heavy.

Seeing this, Amalia guessed the answer wouldn’t be good, "Is there nothing Mr. Houssay can do either?"

Florentino Yoder nodded slightly, "He suffered severe injuries and needs time to recover. I initially thought it would be fine to wait until he was better, as we have already waited so long. But he still refused."

"Why is that?"

"Because he couldn’t help. The Devouring Life Poison is too domineering and stubborn. Even when he was at his peak, he couldn’t overcome it," Florentino Yoder said bitterly.

In front of his brother, he never showed any hint of his true feelings.

"Does that mean there’s no hope?" Amalia furrowed her brow.

Yolanda Yoder suddenly spoke loudly, "We can’t give up! We’ve waited for so many years; we can’t give up on saving Uncle Fernando just because of one setback."

"No one said we shouldn’t try to save Fernando; it’s just that while we can wait, Fernando may not be able to," Florentino Yoder rubbed his tired eyes.

Yolanda Yoder suddenly found herself speechless, clenching her teeth in frustration.

Amalia recalled the first sight of Fernando Yoder, noticing how thin he was and how his energy continuously diminished.

It’s said that he’s been like this for decades, and the fact he managed to hold on this long was quite a feat.
