Chapter 171: Material Fusion (Part 1)
It was the first time someone had spoken this boldly in his class, and it made him feel like ’encouraging’ a bit, and he promptly did.
The entire class focused on Amalia.
Amalia standing up and walked toward the platform.
She then scanning the materials that laid out on it.
She had no idea what was covered in the last class since she didn’t attended it.
And relying on other classmates seemed impractical.
She had only attended the class a few times and she wasn’t particularly an outgoing person, nor had he established a good rapport with anyone in the class yet.
Just as she pondered what sort of question this might be, a whiteboard was discreetly raised in the second row.
On it were written a few words: "—Material Fusion."
From Amalia’s viewpoint, she caught sight of the person who had reminded her and when their eyes met, the individual flashed a friendly smile.
Returning her attention to the materials on the platform, she confirmed that indeed the materials had varying attributes—some compatible, and others were repelling each other—she understood it instantly.
Materials differed in quality and had complementary or conflicting properties.
Sometimes some materials who look like harmonious materials is actually couldn’t be fused, and vice versa.
During the class, Professor Frans had mentioned to testing everyone in this class.
The materials displayed on the platform constituted her test: which materials could mutually fuse, enhancing the artifact’s effects, and he was demanded an on-the-spot demonstration from the students.
Usually, prodigies in the artefact refining class volunteered for such questions.
But, if Professor Frans wasn’t satisfied, he would directly call on other students.
After all, he needed to explain the consequences of haphazard material fusion and provide a counterexample.
Hence, an unspoken rule existed among the artefact refining class—anyone singled out by Professor Frans was considered a counterexample, and inevitably facing public embarrassment.
"This woman really walked into the lion’s den. She actually caught Professor Frans’s attention voluntarily. There is a good show to watch today," Karina Wences couldn’t contain her excitement.
Rasler Yoder maintained his smile, "Indeed. Perhaps today, we might witness her true capabilities, if she has any."
"What true capabilities could this person have? It’s just a test on material selection and fusion. What could possibly reveal her true capabilities?" Karina Wences dismissed.
This was the disparity between a genius and an ordinary person.
Regular artificer couldn’t discern the traps set by Professor Frans in this test; they merely saw it as an ordinary challenge.
Without explanation, Rasler Yoder kept his eyes fixed on Amalia’s every move.
Beforehand, he had been contemplating how to draw out Amalia’s true potential.
Today, Professor Frans had practically handed her over to him.
It would be a disservice to Professor Frans not to observe closely.
The main material was a piece of Luminous Gold Ore, which has been refined, and most other materials were also ores.
For an ordinary student, just naming the ores would cause confusion because many ores here shared similar colors and traits.
This test not only evaluated which materials could fuse but it’s also likely assessed the students’ knowledge of ores.
Without proper understanding, a student that stepping up would embarrass themselves—how could they know which ores that could be fused if they didn’t even recognize the type?
It was an exceedingly tricky way to put them in a tight spot.
Amalia didn’t think this test was specifically set up by Professor Frans for her; it was just her misfortune to attend this class at the wrong time.
She extended her finger, touching each ore one by one before settling on a grayish piece, and casually picking it up.
The students below immediately snickered, seemingly mocking her choice.
"It’s truly student that come from the trash class. Allowing her into our specialized class, with such weak fundamentals, and skipping classes for so long, the gap was shows now, doesn’t it?"
"It’s not her fault, to be honest. After all, there was no hope from the start."
"Even if she came to class every day, she could never keep up with our pace. Giving up would be wiser. In my opinion, her absence earlier was a wise decision."
"..."
Whispers emerged from the corner.
Professor Frans casually glanced at them, and they fell silent instantly.
The ore that Amalia picked up was called Duranmire stone, which was a little bit unconventional, but Professor Frans liked discussing such unconventional materials, so most students who had attended his classes knew about it.
This type of Duranmire Stone had high density but it has a significant downside—it was highly exclusive, and it cannot be easily fused with other materials.
This exclusivity manifested after fusion, which leading to instances where artificers mistakenly used Duranmire Stone, and causing issues with the artifacts, without knowing the root of the problem.
She dared to pick up the Duranmire Stone, and everyone eagerly anticipated a good show.
Afterward, Amalia picked up a few more materials—some sandstones, stardust, fur, and so on.
The entire class watched in astonishment. Was she planning to create chaos?
"Javier, do you think she can succeed?" asked Grace Rodriguez.
She come from another class, but she had deliberately joined in today upon hearing Amalia was attending.
Javier Weiss, who had been injured by Amalia when he was on a plane and had just recovered, replied ominously, "Impossible for her to succeed. Of all things, she picked the Duranmire Stone. She’s destined for public embarrassment. Wait and see, Professor Frans will definitely scold her severely in a while."
Grace Rodriguez’s eyes brightened, "That’s good, then."
Amalia swiftly fused the various materials.
Since the task was about fusion, there was no need to proceed to the final step.
Her movements were both smooth and rapid.
Many classmates couldn’t even follow; she had already completed one of the steps.
Karina Wences was solely focused on witnessing Amalia’s embarrassment and she hadn’t noticed Rasler Yoder beside him, whose expression grew increasingly solemn.
Time passed, though no one was sure for how long.
"Done," Amalia’s icy and cool voice suddenly echoed.
