Chapter 1245: Shadows of Deception

He didn’t seem surprised that they knew about the Holy Gate of the Heaven and the Earth—what would be strange was not knowing about them.

That mysterious organization had existed even before Pleiadian Ascendancy was founded.

From the very beginning, they had been active, constantly causing bloodshed and attempting to overthrow the Crimson Moon Dynasty royal family.

If Pleiadian Ascendancy hadn’t been established later on, the Holy Gate of the Heaven and the Earth might have actually succeeded.

"Do you recognize this person? Do you know where he is?" Amalia pulled up a picture of a man with tiger-stripe tattoos covering his face.

The middle-aged man squinted his nearly invisible eyes at the image. "What do you want to know about him?"

"I want to know his whereabouts."

"The information about the Holy Gate of the Heaven and the Earth members isn’t ordinary information. If you want his whereabouts, you’ll have to pay first."

The man stretched out his palm.

Amalia glanced at his hand. "What’s the price?"

The man chuckled. "One hundred million. You can pay in materials, but materials will only be valued at ninety percent of the market rate. After all, when we resell them, we might not get full price."

"Fine." Amalia didn’t hesitate.

If it meant getting the tiger-faced man’s whereabouts, one hundred million was a bargain.

Neither Amalia nor Kenny Lin carried cash, so they directly used materials as payment.

It was the materials that they had taken from Miralles.

Amalia selected materials worth sixty million. "I’ll pay half as a deposit first. The remaining half will be paid once I get the information."

"That’s fine," the middle-aged man agreed readily.

Then he led them to a warehouse, instructing them to store the materials inside.

Once the door was locked, he began sharing the information he knew.

"The man you’re looking for is a member of the Holy Gate of the Heaven and the Earth, one of the more active ones. Quite a few people have seen him before. However, the Holy Gate of the Heaven and the Earth members are incredibly secretive and never reveal their whereabouts unless they choose to do so. When they do, it usually means they already have a target in sight. His last known target was on Planet Nexus—after assassinating the head of a prominent family, he disappeared without a trace."

"And what’s his next target?" Amalia asked.

The middle-aged man chuckled. "How would I know? Like I said, unless they expose themselves, no one can track their movements or predict their next target."

Amalia sensed something was off.

However, she remained calm and simply stared at the man. "What do you mean by that?"

"What do I mean? I mean exactly what I said," the man replied with a smug grin, his eyes full of mockery. "You wanted his whereabouts—I’ve already provided you with his past movements." He laughed openly, as if he were looking at two fools.

"Oh, and here’s a free tip: Their targets are usually wealthy people, especially those from noble families with heirlooms of great value. If you follow this pattern and investigate, you might figure it out yourself. And if you still can’t, you can always buy more information from me. I have a list of all the noble families in the Crimson Moon Dynasty, carefully compiled—no one else has one as complete as mine. I’ll give you a good deal, just fifty million."

Ignoring the middle-aged man, Amalia turned to Darsh. "You brought us here on purpose, didn’t you? Do you teaming up with him to scam newcomers?"

Darsh immediately put on a wronged expression. "Miss, you must be joking! Why would I ruin my own reputation by scheming with him to deceive you?"

"Reputation?" Amalia sneered. "Veteran traders probably avoid you, but newcomers wouldn’t be so wary. With this scam, you could live off one successful con for years. The Underground City is huge, and new people come in every day—there’s always someone to fall for your tricks."

"I don’t know what you’re talking about."

"And what if it’s true?"

Darsh and the middle-aged man spoke at the same time, but the latter received a sharp glare from the former.

The middle-aged man didn’t seem to care and sneered, "What are you so afraid of? These two are nobodies on Planet Omicron. What can they do to us? This place is our territory."

He deliberately emphasized the words "our territory," clearly warning Amalia and Kenny Lin to back down and accept their losses.

"The information you gave isn’t worth one hundred million," Amalia stated coldly. "But you did provide something, so I’ll value it at ten million. Leave materials worth ten million, return the remaining forty million, and I’ll let this go."

Kenny Lin’s smile grew wider, but neither of them took him seriously.

"I don’t think you understand your situation," the middle-aged man sneered. "Once something goes into my pocket, you really think you can take it back? I’ve already given you the information—whether you’re satisfied or not doesn’t matter. Not only will I not return the forty million, but you still owe me the other fifty million. Otherwise..."

"Otherwise what?" Kenny Lin asked with an amused look.

The middle-aged man glanced at him, then suddenly clapped his hands.

Within moments, a group of thugs with vicious expressions rushed out and surrounded them.

It was clear that they had done this many times before.

Who knew how many people had fallen for their scam, unable to walk away unscathed?

In the end, most victims must have been forced to pay the full amount just to leave safely.

The more lawless a place, the more dangerous it becomes.

This was the chaos of the Underground City.

Most people who visited for the first time inevitably suffered a loss before they truly understood what it meant to be there.

Above ground, Planet Omicron was a land of prosperity, strength, and stability.

However, beneath its surface, in the Underground City, corruption festered in the shadows.
