Chapter 1227: A Game of Status
Chapter 1227: A Game of Status
"Some people are just masochists. They don’t feel satisfied unless they get slapped in the face first. Don’t you think that’s the definition of a true M?" Kenny Lin said to Amalia beside him.
Amalia glanced at him, knowing he was doing it on purpose.
Right now, they were under full surveillance by the Pleiades Star System.
No matter how softly they spoke, someone somewhere would still be able to hear them.
If they truly didn’t want to be overheard, they could simply use voice transmission.
"Can’t really blame them," Amalia spoke on their behalf. "Ignorance isn’t their fault. Live and learn. If they’re smart, they won’t make the same mistake again."
"Arrogant!" The remaining people in the conference room were seething with rage.
Their cold gazes fixed on Amalia and Kenny Lin.
The latter was too powerful for them to deal with at the moment, but Amalia was another matter.
"The weakest star system is also the most arrogant. How interesting."
Some had no desire to listen any further.
Shaking their heads, they got up and left.
They couldn’t make a move now, but that didn’t mean they wouldn’t be able to later.
Once they arrived at Planet Omicron, the situation would be entirely under their control.
Soon, only two people remained in the conference room.
One was the young man from earlier.
Seeing that the other person hadn’t left, he asked, "Do you really think it’s mutated mental power?"
"Do you think it’s not?" The man’s expression remained unreadable.
"It could also be a special type of storage space. That possibility isn’t out of the question," the young man said calmly.
"Perhaps."
The man stood up and walked out of the conference room as well.
The young man narrowed his eyes as he looked at the now-empty screen.
Whether it was mutated mental power or a unique storage space, both were incredibly rare.
Planet Omicron was the capital planet of the Crimson Moon Dynasty and its most rapidly developing world.
Towering skyscrapers dominated the skyline, and even the countryside was filled with grand, beautifully designed estates.
It was clear that only the wealthy and powerful lived here.
Above the city, countless elevated pathways crisscrossed in all directions.
Their transparent interiors revealed the speeding hovercars within.
Meanwhile, outside these pathways, other vehicles were free to travel through open space, as long as they adhered to traffic regulations.
Between the skyscrapers, glimpses of massive trees and floating gardens could be seen, rising like green sanctuaries amid the concrete jungle.
Planet Omicron was like a utopia, filled with a high-tech atmosphere that far surpassed that of the Erythar Star System.
After about twenty minutes, they arrived at a massive building.
The golden word was engraved at the top: Embassy.
This was the residence arranged by Planet Omicron for envoys from other star systems.
It was an enormous complex, divided into eight living quarters—one for each visiting star system.
Every quarter was spacious, but since they had arrived late, the best ones had already been taken.
What remained was assigned to them.
As expected, their assigned residence was in a relatively remote area.
However, it wasn’t the most isolated one.
When Miralles led them over, they saw that the most secluded residence had already been claimed.
"The envoys from the Noriev Star System are right next to you," Miralles explained briefly.
Noriev Star System was the least technologically advanced of the nine major star systems—even more backward than Erythar Star System.
Having discovered no miracles, Noriev Star System had suffered devastating losses.
Unlike Erythar Star System, their purpose for coming to the Pleiades Star System was to seek help—to plead for reinforcements.
Because of this, they had no objections to any arrangements made for them.
When asking for aid, one naturally had to adopt a humble attitude.
Yet, despite that, the most remote residence was one they had chosen for themselves.
At this point, Noriev Star System no longer had the strength to compete with anyone.
After settling them in, Miralles had no choice but to explain some things about Planet Omicron.
The Crimson Moon Dynasty would not restrict their movements on Planet Omicron, but there were places they could go and places they could not.
As for the strategic meeting among the nine major star systems to discuss countermeasures against the aliens, they would be informed once the meeting was confirmed.
Before leaving, Miralles also arranged for a guide for them.
If they had any questions, they could ask the guide.
Once Miralles and his people left, the group began arranging their accommodations.
The best rooms were given to Amalia and Kenny Lin.
The embassy’s tallest building exceeded thirty stories.
Compared to the surrounding buildings, which were only around twenty stories high, standing at the highest point allowed them to see far into the distance.
They could take in most of the cityscape—a sea of high technology, an ostentatious display of advancement.
Not long after, before the guide Miralles had arranged arrived, someone from next door paid them a visit.
The envoys from the Noriev Star System had heard that the envoys from the Erythar Star System were arriving today, so they came over specifically to greet them.
Sharif is the one whose received them.
"How should I address this envoy? I am Blair Maldorf, Minister of Foreign Affairs from the Noriev Star System."
The man was dressed in a well-fitted suit, exuding a scholarly air.
Though courteous, he did not appear servile.
"What a coincidence, I am also a minister. Minister Blair, you can just call me Minister Sharif." Sharif smiled.
"Minister Sharif, nice to meet you." Blair shook his hand briefly before releasing it. "I assume you also faced difficulties from the people of the Crimson Moon Dynasty upon your arrival?"
"You’ve had trouble as well?" Sharif asked politely.
"Well, perhaps not exactly trouble. The Noriev Star System was never technologically strong to begin with."
Blair said with some embarrassment.
The underlying message was clear—the Crimson Moon Dynasty had little regard for their technology.
