Chapter 1190: Desperate Choices

The aliens tore an opening in their lines, nearly reaching the royal court.

The war had reached its most intense stage.

With the Prince of Doomsday’s battleship providing support, the aliens were in high spirits.

On top of that, two more alien generals had arrived with their fleets, regrouping their forces for a final push to take Planet Veloxia.

The Emperor was at his wit’s end.

Even if he called for reinforcements from other planets now, they wouldn’t arrive in time.

All he could do was gather every remaining soldier, only to find that most were wounded survivors.

Even General Herrera had been injured in battle.

"Everyone, this is the empire’s last moment of survival. I am deeply grateful to all of you for standing firm until now. We have no way out..."

"Your Majesty, the space pirates have betrayed us, and more alien forces have arrived. We have no chance of winning. If we keep holding on, everyone will die," an elder cultivator named Cao Jingyuan interrupted him.

The Emperor’s heart sank. "What are you suggesting, Elder Cao?"

"My suggestion is that Your Majesty should take the remaining soldiers and flee from Planet Veloxia. As the saying goes, ’as long as the green hills remain, there will be wood to burn.’ If we preserve our lives, there will always be a chance to rebuild the empire."

Cao Jingyuan had no desire to face the aliens’ battleship head-on.

The nuclear-magnetic explosions were so powerful that even Duan Yao dared not confront them directly, let alone him.

They were cultivators, yes, but that didn’t make them invincible.

"Elder Cao, this is not what you said when you negotiated terms with the empire before!" Laith glared at him in frustration.

Cao Jingyuan frowned. "That’s because we didn’t expect the aliens to be this strong. Yes, we made a deal, and yes, we have helped the empire. But the aliens are simply too powerful. What we received is not worth sacrificing our lives for."

"Immortal Duan, do you think the same?" Sharif’s gaze darkened as he looked at Immortal Duan, who had remained silent but seemed to agree with Elder Cao.

Immortal Duan sighed. "The aliens’ firepower is too overwhelming. We can ensure your safe retreat from Planet Veloxia, but taking down the aliens’ battleship... that would be nearly impossible."

The aliens’ reliance on their battleship was not without reason—even the cultivators dared not face them head-on.

"Rafael, do you think the same?" Sharif ignored Elder Duan’s words and turned toward the leader of Sable Andalus League, the underground black market’s mastermind.

Behind him stood dozens of his most loyal subordinates, each radiating a bloody aura.

They looked a little battered but were brimming with killing intent, their eyes shining like wolves.

"I’ve taken my payment, so you can do whatever you want," Rafael said coldly. "But let me make one thing clear—if my life is in danger, I’ll save whoever I can. If I can’t, I won’t hesitate to abandon you."

A flicker of surprise flashed in Sharif’s eyes.

They had expected Rafael to be like Immortal Duan and the others, but they had misjudged him.

Perhaps it was because Rafael was a native of the Draconis Empire.

Even a ruthless outlaw like Rafael could say such words, while the so-called noble cultivators, who had already received their benefits, were planning their escape before the battle had even reached its climax.

Duan Yao and Cao Jingyuan’s faces darkened.

They could feel the disdainful gazes from the rest of the royal court.

They sneered internally—everyone had their own choices.

Was it wrong to value their own lives?

Rafael could talk all he wanted, but when real danger came, who knew if he wouldn’t be the first to run?

The black market had always been a place of backstabbing and betrayal.

What honor could they possibly have?

"Immortal Duan, we will not abandon the Erythar Star System. We have decided to fight the aliens to the death. Do you have anything else to say?" the Emperor declared.

Duan Yao frowned but soon relaxed. "Since Your Majesty has decided, we will do our best. But let me be clear—we will not risk our lives for this."

He knew the Draconis Empire wanted them to take down the alien battleship, preferably destroy them entirely.

However, that was nothing short of suicide.

If he had the ability to destroy a battleship, he wouldn’t be standing here taking orders from the Emperor.

"Thank you, Immortal Duan," the Emperor still expressed his gratitude, his demeanor grand, as if they had truly made a selfless contribution to the empire.

The battle began.

The Alien artillery rained from the sky, accompanied by waves of alien warriors.

They spread their wings and attacked recklessly, their razor-sharp claws slashing through the air, capable of ripping even mechas apart.

Seeing the aliens’ Cosmorite Mecha forces jumping down from their battleship, Rafael and his subordinates charged forward, clashing in a violent explosion of sparks.

Their combat style seemed to rely on physical strength.

Their bodies were incredibly tough—some even tanked direct hits from alien particle cannons without injury.

Seeing this, Duan Yao and Cao Jingyuan had no choice but to act.

They drew their weapon and joined the fray.

Just then, another fleet stormed in.

Their ship descended onto Planet Veloxia, bombarding the ground troops with relentless fire, kicking up smoke and debris.

These were none other than the traitorous interstellar pirates.

With a metallic clang, a pirate leader leaped down from above, landing right in front of Rafael.

"Rafael, why are you still fighting? The Draconis Empire is finished. They can’t defeat the aliens. Even with your help, it won’t change the outcome. If you surrender now, you can still be treated as an honored guest. But if you’re captured, you won’t be a guest—you’ll be a prisoner. And aliens are not kind to their prisoners."

"So you surrendered just to lick the aliens’ ass?" Rafael’s eyes turned ice-cold. "You, Han Li, a so-called great space pirate, have stooped so low as to be their lapdog?"
