Chapter 1165: Shadows of Betrayal

"Oh? What kind of goal? Conquering these people and making them kneel before you while singing about submission?" Kenny Lin teased with amusement.

"No need for that. As long as they worship me in their hearts, that’s enough."

Kenny Lin shuddered. "You’ve changed. You weren’t like this before."

"That’s because I never realized how important the art of control was," Amalia chuckled. "Of course, you can take your time, but at this rate, I might surpass you soon."

Kenny Lin’s lips twitched. "Do you have to be like this?"

"Why not? I’ve never experienced the thrill of surpassing your cultivation before." Amalia smirked with satisfaction.

Suddenly, Kenny Lin pushed off the wall and stepped toward her, closing the distance.

He trapped her between his arms and the cold metal surface behind her.

"This kind of posture—this only happens in romance dramas. Are you trying to make yourself a male lead now?" Amalia raised an eyebrow.

Kenny Lin scoffed.

Without warning, he leaned in and bit down on her lips.

Caught off guard, Amalia felt a stinging feeling—he had drawn blood.

A faint taste of iron spread in her mouth.

Bang!

A loud crashing sound interrupted them.

Both of them turned around to look the sources of the sound.

Khalil whose stood nearby rubbing his forehead furiously.

It seemed like he had just walked straight into the metal wall.

"What the hell are you doing? Testing whether your head is harder than the wall?"

The moment was completely ruined, and Kenny Lin’s tone was especially irritated.

Khalil gave an awkward laugh. "Uh... sorry. I didn’t mean to... eavesdrop."

"If you were really trying to spy on us on purpose, you’d already be floating outside this battleship—believe it or not," Kenny Lin said with a smirk.

Khalil’s face stiffened. "I believe you. I’m leaving right now."

"Then get lost already!" Kenny Lin’s expression darkened immediately.

Khalil turned around and ran, clearly frightened off.

"You scared him. He didn’t do it on purpose," Amalia pushed Kenny Lin away.

He pulled her back instead, causing them both to stumble a few steps backward.

Before she could react, he held her tightly in his arms.

"What are you doing?" Amalia struggled slightly, only to find his arms as firm as steel.

"Nothing much. Do you even realize how much you owe me?"

Amalia’s lips twitched. "And what do you want?"

"Dual cultivation," Kenny Lin answered bluntly, as if afraid she’d refuse. "We’re not on the battlefield yet—we still have time."

Amalia thought for a moment.

She was on the verge of a breakthrough, and this guy was clearly panicking, which was making him clingier than usual. "Fine."

"I don’t care. Even if you refuse, you need to say yes this time," Kenny Lin added stubbornly, thinking she was about to reject him as she usually did.

Before she could say anything else, a gust of wind swept past, and the two figures intertwined, vanishing from the corridor in an instant.

Inside the Control Room.

One of the surveillance cameras in the corridor had captured the entire scene.

Everyone stared at each other in stunned silence.

Watching someone so intimate make them feel about awkward.

Of course, it wasn’t really a big deal.

It’s normal for two people who are falling in love to be intimate.

"The standards for a matching couple sure are high nowadays," someone muttered under their breath.

Officer Khan’s forehead twitched. "Enough with the chatter. Get back to work."

Meanwhile, on Planet Veloxia.

At the Royal Court of the Draconis Empire, tensions erupted between the royal family and the two underground factions—Ashen Djinn Brotherhood and Sable Andalus League—due to a disagreement.

Before leaving, one of Ashen Djinn Brotherhood’s members deliberately stomped on the court’s floor, leaving behind deep cracks and craters.

Their arrogance was blatant.

Once upon a time, they had been fugitives hunted by the empire.

These people had never dared to set foot near the capital star.

However, now, emboldened by the shifting tides, even these once-cowardly pirates no longer feared the empire’s army.

"This is outrageous! Those weren’t even their leaders, yet they had the audacity to act so arrogantly in front of us! If this were the old days, I would’ve killed them on the spot!" Laith cursed, his rage nearly uncontrollable.

"Unfortunately, these are not the old days," Sharif replied coolly.

Luhay sighed. "They know we have no other options—that’s why they’re pushing us like this."

"But raising the price at the last minute? We had already agreed on the terms, and they didn’t even negotiate. They just demanded more! This is blatant humiliation!" Laith fumed, veins bulging on his forehead.

"Ashen Djinn Brotherhood and Sable Andalus League are taking advantage of us. They’ve given us three days to decide whether to accept," the Emperor said, rubbing his temples in frustration.

"I just want to kill them right now," Laith growled.

No one responded.

"Accept their terms," the Emperor finally said. "If they can change the deal at the last minute, then so can we. When the time comes, we can simply go back on our word." He was completely nonchalant, as if he weren’t the ruler of an entire empire.

"I agree. But doing that might enrage them and bring disaster to the Draconis Empire instead," Sharif added.

The Emperor’s smug expression faltered. "Then what do you suggest?"

"Overconfidence is not just about self-assurance and power—it’s also an obvious weakness," Sharif said calmly.

The three men exchanged glances.

Of all the people they could cross, Sharif was probably the last one they should mess with.

At the moment when the Draconis Empire reached a humiliating agreement with the Ashen Djinn Brotherhood and Sable Andalus League, a colossal starship materialized near an alien stronghold.

The massive battleship merged into the cosmic expanse, its presence undetectable even by the alien surveillance systems.

A patrol of alien soldiers passed through the plaza.

One of them glanced up at the sky.

"It’s not even evening yet, but the sky has already darkened?"
