Chapter 1055: Flames of Resolve
Nehun’s expression darkened suddenly. "It is different. In the past, though the barrier recovered, the energy surges weren’t as powerful as this. This time, it seems the barrier has fully returned to its peak state."
"The last energy surge was the smallest, as if they had finally exhausted their resources. It looked like they were running on fumes, and then suddenly, this huge surge appeared. I have a bad feeling about this," Menruch sighed. "I hope it’s just my imagination."
"Then kill more of our men. Make the Shub-Niggurath grow even larger," Azrakar said coldly.
Nehun glanced at him. "Are you insane? The Shub-Niggurath is already so massive. If it gets any bigger, we won’t be able to control it."
"So what? It’s not like we’ll be the ones paying the price," Azrakar sneered. As long as he could obtain the Sky Viewing Mirror, the lives of his subordinates were expendable.
Menruch remained silent for a moment before replying, "Then let’s try it. We don’t have time to wait any longer."
Their patience had nearly reached its limit.
With one command, five hundred devils marched forward this time.
The synchronized suicide was a horrifying spectacle, with a flood of crimson energy surging toward the Shub-Niggurath.
"These devils are truly ruthless. They don’t even see their own subordinates as people."
An elderly woman watching from a nearby mountain clicked her tongue softly, but her icy pupils showed no trace of sympathy.
"That’s the philosophy of devils: survival of the fittest. Without strength, you’re merely a pawn to be used. Live if you’re ordered to live, die if you’re ordered to die," Dalamandur said coldly.
Since it wasn’t their subordinates dying, they were more than happy to let the devils take the lead.
The Pixiu within the forbidden area were trapped like fish in a barrel. The longer they waited, the better their chances of ultimate victory.
With a thunderous boom, the skies above the forbidden area shifted once more.
Kenny Lin and the three Pixiu exited the main hall, looking up at the violently shaking barrier. Energy surged and flowed more rapidly than before.
"What’s happening? Why is the barrier’s energy weakening?" Kenny Lin asked.
"This is bad. That creature outside has grown stronger again. Its absorption of the barrier’s energy has accelerated. We initially estimated it could hold for another day, but now it might last only three or four hours," Gor’kan said, his brows furrowing deeply.
"Less than half a day?" Kenny Lin muttered, glancing back at the main hall, then at the three Pixiu.
Zhar’khaen felt his scalp tingle. "Stop dreaming! We can’t throw any more divine artifacts out there. Each of those artifacts is painstakingly crafted. If we waste them all just to buy half a day’s time, their creators will never rest in peace!"
Kenny Lin extended his hand. "Bring me two divine artifacts."
"I just said—" Zhar’khaen fumed, ready to argue, but then noticed Kenny Lin looking at him with an expression that screamed "Are you stupid?"
"I’m asking for two divine artifacts. If we’re going to fight, I can’t be the only one unarmed while you’re fully equipped."
Gor’kan coughed awkwardly. "Take the Sky Viewing Mirror. If Amalia can’t succeed, you’ll need it anyway. Consider it part of your compensation."
"What’s its use?" Kenny Lin asked, only knowing the mirror could allow entry and exit.
"It has tremendous uses," Zhar’khaen explained. "As long as you know someone’s aura, the Sky Viewing Mirror can lock onto it and pinpoint their location. Even if you’ve never seen them before, it can tear through space to find them. Its most practical function is similar to teleportation. You can open a void portal here and instantly appear thousands of miles away. Back in the day, a top immortal lord could use it to travel millions of miles in an instant. That’s no longer possible, though. Unless a powerful artificer reforges and repairs it, its range is limited to a few thousand miles, maybe ten thousand at most."
"A few thousand to ten thousand miles? That’s more than enough," Kenny Lin said decisively, immediately dripping blood onto the mirror to claim ownership. He then stored the Sky Viewing Mirror in his dantian.
The moment the mirror entered his dantian, the previously dormant Yin-Yang Pearl released a burst of energy that enveloped the mirror.
Kenny Lin noticed that the energy from the Yin-Yang Pearl seemed to have a faint, nearly imperceptible restorative effect on the Sky Viewing Mirror, though the process was so slow it was almost negligible.
"Anything else?" he asked again.
Zhar’khaen hesitated before taking out the Aurora’s Eclipse Bow. "This is the divine artifact Aurora’s Eclipse Bow. It can fire an incredibly powerful arrow for long-range kills."
Kenny Lin glanced at it briefly. "I don’t want that. With the Sky Viewing Mirror, long-range kills are unnecessary—I can already handle that myself."
"Then go to the treasury and choose for yourself. We’ve picked what suits us best."
"Fine." That was exactly the result Kenny Lin wanted. Without hesitation, he turned and left.
"Gor’kan, is it really okay to let him choose on his own?" Zhar’khaen asked nervously.
"It’s fine. If it truly strengthens their combat power, it’s beneficial to us. Treasures are external possessions—reviving the Nine Heaven Pixiu clan is what truly matters right now."
Zhar’khaen didn’t argue, though he muttered something under his breath.
Gor’kan chuckled. This Zhar’khaen, with his obsession for collecting treasures, was quite similar to the ancestral Beast God.
Kenny Lin entered the treasure vault and was immediately hit by a massive wave of heat that made his expression change slightly. When he rushed in, he saw Amalia engulfed in flames, her face contorted in both distortion and agony under the searing firelight.
"Amalia!"
She was attempting to refine the Phoenix True Flame from the Phoenix Feather.
The Nine Heaven Pixiu’s collection included a Phoenix Feather, a plucked tail feather of the mythical Phoenix. It contained a trace of Phoenix True Flame, and the moment Amalia started refining the feather, the flame was released.
