Chapter 1053: The Treasury’s Secrets

This palace was vast, originally constructed by the elders of the Nine Heaven Pixiu clan to protect the inheritance site at the rear of the Forbidden Grounds.

After completing a circuit of the palace and listening to Gor’kan explain the layout and arrangement of the formations, Amalia returned to the treasury.

Instead of immediately refining the materials she had obtained, she pulled out a book.

This was a half-complete manual on artifact refining that they had retrieved from the Path of All Immortals.

Amalia had already studied the methods for refining divine artifacts back on Nameless Peak, but with only half of the book in her possession, her understanding was partial at best.

Meanwhile, Gor’kan placed several divine artifacts in various corners of the palace, which served as activation points.

The formation alone lacked the energy to trap the invading devils and demonic beasts, but the divine artifacts would prolong the duration and reinforce the formation.

Elsewhere, Kenny Lin and Zhar’khaen finally tossed the divine artifacts they had moved into the altar.

The once-mighty divine artifacts that had dominated the ancient era dissolved into liquid under the formation’s deconstruction, releasing bursts of energy before melding into the restrictive barriers, disappearing from existence entirely.

"Actually, back in the day, the Beast God collected so many weapons from powerful expert to ensure that something belonging to those who sacrificed themselves in battle would remain in the world, preventing them from being forgotten," Zhar’khaen remarked with a tinge of emotion as he watched the scene unfold.

Kenny Lin cast him a sidelong glance. "Clearly, it was just a hoarding obsession at work."

Zhar’khaen was at a loss for words. Couldn’t he be a little more tactful?

Vryss’laar wanted to defend the Beast God’s reputation but thought better of it and held his tongue.

Seeing their slightly puffed expressions, Kenny Lin’s mischievous streak surfaced. "Why don’t you picture this: after that great war, your Beast God, clearly injured, crouched on the battlefield, rummaging for divine artifacts left behind by those immortal. Doesn’t that sound more interesting?"

The two couldn’t help but follow his train of thought. As the mental image materialized, the grand and sacred figure of the Beast God in their minds shattered instantly.

"Enough! There’s no way the Beast God would ever do that!" Zhar’khaen took a deep breath, trying to dispel the image.

Vryss’laar’s face turned red as he protested, "Exactly! Even if the great Beast God did have a hoarding obsession, there’s no way he would do it himself. Maybe—maybe it was some other elder Nine Heaven Pixiu who did it!"

Zhar’khaen nodded hastily. "Yes, that’s exactly it. Vryss’laar is absolutely right."

Kenny Lin shrugged nonchalantly. "I was just guessing. Believe what you want. Maybe it really was other Nine Heaven Pixiu doing the collecting."

Neither of them felt the slightest bit relieved. Now, whenever they thought of the Beast God, they couldn’t stop picturing him scavenging for divine artifacts. Where was their noble and selfless image of the Beast God now?

When the three returned, Amalia noticed the deflated expressions on Zhar’khaen and Vryss’laar’s faces. She gave Kenny Lin a questioning look.

Kenny Lin shrugged again, but Amalia wasn’t convinced.

Gor’kan asked the two what had happened, but they refused to say a word. They had already been mentally scarred and weren’t about to let Gor’kan suffer the same fate.

"What are you reading?" Zhar’khaen suddenly asked, changing the subject.

Amalia was just about to put the book away when she heard the question and replied, "It’s half a book about artifact refining."

"Half a book?" Zhar’khaen was momentarily stunned.

"What about it?" Amalia met his gaze, puzzled.

Zhar’khaen snapped out of it and said, "It just feels familiar, like I’ve seen it before. Hold on, let me check."

Now it was Amalia’s turn to be surprised, watching as Zhar’khaen dove into a pile of glowing orbs.

"Whenever Zhar’khaen gets bullied outside, he comes to the treasury to look for something and then goes back to settle the score. Out of all of us, he’s the only one who’s rummaged through the entire treasury. No one knows it better than he does," Gor’kan remarked from the side.

It didn’t take long before Zhar’khaen came running back with a box in hand. "Look at this. See if it matches yours."

Amalia quickly opened the box, and sure enough, inside was the other half of her torn book.

"The Nine Heaven Pixiu clan even collects books on artifact refining?"

"This wasn’t picked up by the Beast God!" Zhar’khaen immediately retorted. Realizing Gor’kan’s skeptical gaze, he caught himself and fell silent.

Gor’kan temporarily set aside his suspicion and explained, "According to our clan’s records, this half of the book was supposedly won in a bet by the Beast God. Back then, the Grandmaster Artificer of Immortal Realm lost but wasn’t happy about it, so he tore the book in half and gave only one part to our Beast God."

"The Grandmaster Artificer of Immortal Realm?" This was Amalia’s first time hearing the name.

"Yes, he was said to be the greatest artificer in the immortal realm. He often placed bets with the Beast God and losing countless divine artifacts in the process."

It’s no wonder Amalia had thought there were too many divine artifacts in the treasury—many of them had been won through bets.

"Such refined tastes. What were they betting on?" Kenny Lin asked, intrigued. He enjoyed gambling himself but rarely found anyone willing to play with him.

"It seems to be riddles," Gor’kan replied.

"Like what?"

Gor’kan suddenly cleared his throat. "I’ve forgotten. There aren’t many details recorded."

Kenny Lin chuckled. "Your Beast God loved showing off so much. Do you really expect me to believe nothing was recorded?"

"How do you know?" Vryss’laar asked. Realizing his slip, he immediately covered his mouth.

"Enough playing around. Let’s get ready. How much longer can the barrier hold on?" Amalia redirected the conversation from the strange topic back to the pressing matter at hand.
