Chapter 1039: A Desperate Mission
Vryss’laar paused, surprised. "Are you saying we should only inform those two human cultivators?"
Gor’kan nodded. "Exactly. Those two have a special connection with the Young Lord, and I’m confident that there’s a 90% chance they mean no harm. However, the remaining 10% uncertainty lies with their sect. If we leave the decision in their hands, it may reveal their true intentions."
"Who should go deliver the message?" Zhar’khaen asked, her brows furrowing as she saw the two men already leaning toward a decision.
Gor’kan and Vryss’laar both turned their gaze to her. "Who else but you? Neither of us has battlefield experience with the devils, but you do."
"Fine," Zhar’khaensighed, resigning himself to the task.
"Take this Breath Concealing Pearl with you," Gor’kan said, handing him the only one he had.
"I don’t need it. Keep it here for yourselves or give it to the Young Lord when they emerge," Zhar’khaen refused immediately.
The Breath Concealing Pearl was initially meant for the Young Lord to swallow once they completed their inheritance, but things had not gone as planned. The inheritance was taking far longer than anticipated, and with enemies already at their doorstep, the Young Lord had yet to come out.
"Take it," Gor’kan insisted, pushing the Breath Concealing Pearl into his hands. "Mystic Void Continent is full of powerful individuals. If a human cultivator recognizes you before you can deliver your message, they might capture you outright. You’re carrying a piece of our clan’s hope with you."
Reluctantly, Zhar’khaen accepted the Breath Concealing Pearl, gripping it tightly. "Alright. But you must promise to hold on until I return."
He retrieved the Sky Viewing Mirror, casting it down to the ground. The mirror expanded and transformed into a shimmering doorway.
Without hesitation, Zhar’khaen stepped through. His figure vanished, and the Sky Viewing Mirror shrank back to its original size, returning to Gor’kan’s hands.
"Do you think this will work?" Vryss’laar asked, the worry evident in his tone.
"Leave it to fate," Gor’kan said, turning away. "Come on, we need to make our preparations."
Zhar’khaen’s figure reappeared outside the Forbidden Grounds. In the distance, the deafening booms of devil assaults on the barrier echoed through the air. The sounds were like a constant drumbeat, urging him to move faster.
"You must wait for me to return!" Zhar’khaen cast a determined glance back at the Forbidden Grounds, then turned around and sped toward the nearest human city with every ounce of her strength, pushing himself to her fastest pace yet.
"Hm?" One of the devils guarding the barrier suddenly tensed, its expression shifting.
"What’s wrong?" another devil asked.
"Nothing, just felt like the barrier trembled for a moment." The first devil inspected the barrier again, but it had already returned to its usual state.
"Probably just the Pixiu inside the Forbidden Grounds trying to put up some resistance. But it’s all futile. This Shub-Niggurath has absorbed the death aura and malevolence of tens of thousands of devils. As long as it encounters anything with energy, it will consume it without exception. The barrier may still be active, but it must rely on spirit stones or other treasures to maintain its power. It’s only a matter of time before the Forbidden Grounds are opened." Greed flickered in their eyes as they spoke.
They had long heard the rumors of the Pixiu Forbidden Grounds, said to be filled with countless treasures. Were it not for the help of certain individuals, they would never have found this place.
"It’s taking too long. The longer it drags on, the higher the chances of something going wrong. Have them send in more bodies," commanded a powerful devil named Hulivu, his voice cold and devoid of pity.
The devils below shuddered at his words. Many of them had hoped they might avoid such a fate, but now despair flooded their hearts and none of them dared to resist.
Another group of devils stepped forward, resigned to their fate. They self-destructed, offering their blood and flesh as sacrifices to the Shub-Niggurath.
....
After sending out over a dozen dovine artifacts, Amalia and Kenny Lin began their seclusion.
Although they appeared unscathed, both of them were far from fully recovered.
The Soltice Ring, one of Amalia’s life-bound treasures, had been damaged. This caused severe backlash to her as its host, injuring her internal organs significantly.
Amalia had no choice but to consume large quantities of pills, transforming their medicinal essence into nourishing energy to heal her damaged organs.
Kenny Lin’s condition was even more dire. The black sun conjured by more than a dozen Body Integration stage wandering spirits was so formidable that even a Mahayana stage cultivator might hesitate to confront it.
Yet not only did he confront it—he swallowed the entire black sun. The dark energy ravaged his body, shredding his fragile meridians over and over again. Each time, the Yin-Yang Pearl’s energy would restore them, creating a relentless cycle of destruction and repair.
Unknowingly, his meridians grew tougher and wider, like vast rivers coursing with surging spiritual energy. His foundation, which had been unstable due to his rapid breakthroughs, was also reinforced during this process.
This time, even under the impact of overwhelming spiritual energy, his meridians would no longer collapse.
Amalia opened her eyes. The damage to her internal organs had recovered by about 70-80%. She decided not to rely further on pills to complete her recovery.
Turning her head to glance at Kenny Lin beside her, her brow furrowed slightly.
"This drama king... His aura has grown even denser."
"The Yin-Yang Pearl truly is a heaven-defying treasure," Amalia thought, her heart filled with mixed emotions.
She could guess why his condition had improved but knew that the treasure could not resolve the core issue within him. Unless they found another trace of that white essence, his problems would persist.
However, despite her exhaustive research into various ancient texts, she found no mention of this white essence. It was as though such a substance didn’t exist in the Mystic Void Continent.
