Chapter 1004: The Race to the Immortal Spring (Part 2)
"Want to see who can cross this fog first?" Kenny Lin asked Amalia with a grin.
"Sure." A small wager to pass the time, Amalia agreed without hesitation.
In the next moment, Kenny Lin revealed his true intentions. "If you lose, then after we leave this place, we’ll dual cultivate once every seven days. If something comes up or you go into seclusion, the sessions will carry over until later."
He had originally intended to suggest dual cultivating daily or every three days, but he worried Amalia would reject him outright.
Amalia frowned. "...No bet."
"Alright, alright," Kenny Lin said, pretending to compromise. "I’ll take the loss here—if something comes up, we won’t carry over the missed sessions." He gave her a helpless look as if he had no choice in the matter.
Amalia rolled her eyes inwardly. Give him an inch, and this guy wants a mile.
Sensing her intent to refuse outright, Kenny Lin quickly added, "You already agreed just now—you can’t go back on it."
"Others dual cultivate to improve their cultivation. You, on the other hand, just want to satisfy your own desires," Amalia said with a laugh.
Kenny Lin suddenly had a flash of insight. "Well, then, you have to give me an opportunity to dual cultivate to improve my cultivation! You’re always shutting yourself away for training—I barely have a chance!"
Amalia gave him a sidelong glance. Since the incident in Skyward City, they hadn’t dual cultivated again. It wasn’t that she wasn’t interested, but they’d been preoccupied with cultivation and had no opportunity.
"What’s the matter? Don’t dare to accept it? Or are you afraid you’ll lose to me?" Kenny Lin teased, his eyes gleaming. "I know my talent surpasses yours, but you wouldn’t want to look down on yourself, would you?"
"If you keep talking, I’ll refuse outright," Amalia replied flatly.
Kenny Lin immediately shut his mouth, grinning to himself in triumph. "Alright, I’ll count to three, and we’ll start."
Behind them, Temujin Lei was working hard to catch up. His solid foundation gave him a distinct advantage in this endurance-based challenge.
Just as Temujin Lei was about to catch up, the two figures ahead of him suddenly shot forward like arrows released from a bowstring.
Their speed, even under such strenuous conditions, nearly doubled, widening the gap in an instant. "Impossible! How can they still have the strength for this?"
Temujin Lei refused to believe he could lose to Kenny Lin and Amalia—especially the latter.
They both practiced the Eight Gods Blades technique. Though he hadn’t yet mastered the last blade, Temujin Lei had never thought himself far inferior to Amalia. Gritting his teeth, he forced his spiritual energy to surge wildly through his body, pushing his speed even further.
"He got provoked that easily?"
Seeing Temujin Lei’s desperate reaction, Seongwoo Jin couldn’t help but laugh.
"At the rate he’s burning through his spiritual energy, he’ll likely run out of steam before long," Eunbyeol Ling remarked coolly.
"Can you blame him? Neither of the two martial aunt and martial uncle’ cultivation levels are higher than his, yet they’re ahead of him. Temujin Lei has always been prideful—it’s no surprise he can’t handle it," Jirandal Tang said with a shake of his head.
Unlike other clueless disciples, the geniuses of the Green Lotus Sect had long since come to terms with their losses.
Now, whatever feats the two ahead performed, they no longer found them shocking.
"Being prideful doesn’t mean you can abandon common sense. He should recognize that those two rely on genuine skill," Seongwoo Jin mocked.
Everyone couldn’t help but recall the incidents aboard the flying boat to the Path of All Immortals, as well as the chaos the pair had caused while seizing the entrance tokens outside the path’s gates.
Their abnormal speed in absorbing spiritual energy alone was enough to prove they had the means to sustain such a high level of consumption.
Jinhwa Hou rubbed his chin, staring at the two figures ahead who were now nearly out of sight. "I thought I was the only one who noticed that."
"You’re not," Seongwoo Jin agreed.
"No need to dwell on it. As long as they’re aware of their limits, it’s fine," Jirandal Tang said, ending the conversation. He refocused on the chase, targeting Taeseon Lei, who had just overtaken him.
At the very front of the plaza, Amalia and Kenny Lin had completely left Temujin Lei behind.
The surrounding mist grew thinner and thinner, signaling they were nearing the end.
Suddenly, Kenny Lin surged forward with a burst of speed, overtaking Amalia in an instant and increasing the distance between them.
Amalia immediately gave chase but found it impossible to close the gap. Despite this, she maintained a steady two-meter distance, neither closing in nor falling further behind.
"You cheated," Amalia said.
The moment the words left her mouth, the mist dispersed, revealing a bright and breathtaking space before them.
Suspended in the void above was a winding and magnificent silver river. Stars twinkled within it, occasionally emitting dazzling bursts of light. As the river flowed, a supremely pure energy radiated outward, saturating the air with spiritual energy so dense it almost seemed to turn into mist.
The silver river rested within a gorge of immortal mountains, surrounded by towering peaks that resembled colossal pillars holding up the heavens. The scene was serene and picturesque, shrouded in an ethereal aura.
"How did I cheat? We never said I couldn’t use anything," Kenny Lin retorted, paying no attention to the immortal river or the stunning landscape as he turned to defend himself.
Amalia cast him a wordless glance. The Yin-Yang Pearl was a genuine divine artifact, capable of allowing its wielder to surpass an entire cultivation realm and slay a demon and devil in the past.
For something as trivial as winning a bet, this guy had actually used such a treasure.
If the Yin-Yang Pearl had a consciousness, it would probably be so furious it would refuse to cooperate.
