Forest Ranger, starting from Picking Up a Lynx Girl
Chapter 422 - 415: Surprise, Their Back Doors are Connected (Two in One)_2

For it, though it wasn't at risk of being pecked to death by the peacock, the bird's beak pecking at its body and tearing off its scales left holes with each bite.

"There, you two, what are you doing? Little Bai, let's go, we're going home."

Chen Ying shouted to stop them, but the two stubborn creatures completely ignored him.

Helplessly, he prepared to forcefully take Little Bai away, but before he could act, an animal pounced down from the tree and roared at Little Bai, then made an aggressive stance towards the male peacock.

Peacocks might not fear snakes, but they can't help but fear cats.

Especially Little Jin, who had ended countless lives, the sight of its exposed sharp teeth sent the male peacock flying away in a squawk.

A group of peahens watched its disgraceful retreat, each with a solemn expression.

It seemed they needed to find a new male peacock.

After scaring off the interloper, Little Jin growled at Little Bai in an unkind manner, but Little Bai couldn't speak, only listen.

However, though its name was Little Bai, it was neither a defenseless flower nor a simpleton; it was the clever Lady Bai.

So when Chen Ying got close to it, it quickly jumped onto him, its tail tip dangling down, tapping the back of Chen Ying's hand.

Chen Ying, puzzled, reached out to grab it, while his other injured hand was held out flat, revealing the cotton ball stuck to the back of it.

Little Jin came beside Chen Ying, tugged at his clothes, stood up on its hind legs, and sniffed the back of his hand.

Apart from the disinfectant spray's scent, unwelcomed by cats, there was also a faint smell of blood.

Little Jin might be muscular, but its brain was much larger than a peacock's.

With Little Bai's set of actions, it instantly understood the other's meaning.

"Meow-ow! Did it do this?"

Little Bai nodded as if human, then turned and flicked its tongue at the male peacock.

At that moment, a snake and a cat reached a consensus: they had to teach this idiot a lesson.

Did the peahens know what the two were thinking? Perhaps not, but at that moment, they were too disinterested to care about the male—after all, they were initially blind to all but his looks, failing to see his brain was filled with nothing but vanity and showoff, genuinely afraid their offspring would inherit such foolishness to the despair of birds.

Chen Ying saw this too, which was why he didn't dare linger.

He stuffed Little Bai into his jacket pocket and picked up Little Jin.

A one-meter-long Big Cat certainly had some weight to it.

"Director Guo, I'm heading back first; I won't wait in the village for you all, I've got to leave ahead. These two might cause trouble."

Both observers, the interaction between a snake and cat already raised sufficient concern for Director Guo, who feared Little Jin might hurt the peacock.

"Alright, I'll arrange for someone to take you to the county town; there, someone will set up the rest of your journey."

The trip was made in a rescue vehicle, exceptional matters required exceptional measures, allowing for animal transport, but the return trip was different; civilian transportation had strict regulations on carrying animals, not to mention his were all under national protection.

After packing up at the veterinary station, Chen Ying, with Little Jin and Little Bai in tow, rushed into the car, speeding towards the county town.

There was a branch of the Snake Research Institute, which would provide a ride to the main institute in the provincial city.

The driver on the road had arranged everything, so they didn't need to enter the city, picking him up directly at the highway toll station.

Chen Ying arrived at the provincial Snake Research Institute at two in the morning; they had already arranged a place for him to stay, and even the two little ones had their own room.

The Snake Research Institute housed more than just snakes; it also cared for animals and birds waiting for treatment after snake bites.

Although there was a slim chance of survival, as long as there was a ten percent chance, they wouldn't give up.

After a good sleep, he woke up straight at noon.

Someone fed Little Jin, while Little Bai, now comfortable, slept in the most suitable environment, undisturbed by thunder.

At five thirty, Dao Meihua came by car, bringing her pet hedgehog and Little flying squirrel along.

"Let's go; I'll take you back."

This car was specially modified.

An elongated body, with a two-tiered iron cage at the rear.

The top layer had a terrarium installed, created to the liking of snakes.

The two lower tiers were a cat villa, especially arranged for Little Jin, not as good as the wild, but comfortable enough for eating and sleeping.

Little Bai the hedgehog and Little flying squirrel's temporary nests were above the front of the car, also modified according to their habits.

The middle was designed like a motorhome, with a single bed on each side and, with a curtain drawn, private personal space.

"This car belongs to my aunt; she agreed to lend it to me knowing you had to take animals back to Jiamu Gully."

"Their documents are in the drawer; just look on top of the table in the storage drawer, the first slot."

After taking him to Jiamu Gully, Dao Meihua had to pick up two animals from a neighboring province's zoo.

Her family owned a private zoo. Last year she sent those two little critters to another zoo for mating, after a successful stay of nearly a year, they were about to have babies, Dao Meihua was going to check on them and see if she could bring the two little ones home early.

Chen Ying couldn't help with this, so he didn't offer any unsolicited advice, but he still told Dao Meihua to contact him if she needed anything; he could help out with information at least.

Such a long journey wasn't something to make a person drive alone.

They took turns driving, resting in secluded places at service areas at night.

From beginning to end, except for buying food, they never opened the car doors.

Even going out to eat, they would lock all the cages, making sure the little ones wouldn't escape and scare people.

A journey of over a thousand kilometers, if driven non-stop, would normally take thirteen hours to complete.
