Forced to Marry the Sickly Billionaire -
Chapter 258: Face is Not as Important as Money
Chapter 258: Chapter 258: Face is Not as Important as Money
"Even you can’t do it? It seems that the other party must have been prepared early." Lucas Shaw fell into deep thought, reaching out to take the insulated lunch box and waving his hand towards him.
"Keep an eye on it, and report back as soon as there’s any movement from them."
"Yes."
Ethan Wells nodded and turned to leave.
Lucas Shaw arranged the food on an empty table, took out two empty plates and served some food onto the small table by the sickbed.
He pulled out a wet wipe, helped Serena Summers clean her cheeks and hands, then passed the chopsticks to her.
Attentive and considerate service.
Serena leaned against the head of the bed, being taken care of by him, somewhat teary and speechless, "Am I that weak? Are you treating me like a child?"
Lucas Shaw served a bowl of soup, placed it in front of Serena, looked up at her words, chuckled, "Aren’t you a child? Eat up, I instructed them to prepare some light-tasting dishes especially for you."
"Oh, such meticulous attendance, I never thought I’d see the day when the Second Master shows such an amenable side." Vincent Carter jokingly teased with a laugh.
It’s not surprising that he was too shocked; during those few days when Serena was in a deep slumber, that bastard’s presence was terrifying.
Where he was, the temperature seemed degrees cooler than anywhere else, almost to the point of freezing a person to death.
He offhandedly mentioned, "Don’t be so nervous, she has a strong life force in her."
And in return, he received a cold and murderous gaze from Lucas Shaw.
He was like a beast that had been in deep slumber, the instant it opened its eyes to stare at you, your blood involuntarily boiled over, accompanied by a dread that threatened to plummet you into an abyss.
After that one look from Lucas Shaw, Vincent Carter had unsettling dreams for several nights.
Up to now, he’s still unclear about what exactly he said wrong.
Serena dared to try, which means she is confident in the medicine she had researched.
And he had confidence in Serena’s medical skills.
Was there a problem?
No!
Lucas Shaw’s eyes narrowed slightly, his dark and profound pupils released a dangerous gleam.
Instantly, Vincent Carter’s scalp tingled, and he quickly shut his mouth, not daring to speak.
He did not want to experience the nightmares of being chased by a beast every night again.
In a suburb of S city, inside an old warehouse, a man dressed in a grey suit walked in, his voice low and deep.
"How’s it going? Have you broken through yet?"
In a corner of the warehouse, on a sofa, a burly foreign man was sitting in front of a computer, his long fingers rapidly typing on the keyboard, his eyes unwaveringly fixed on the computer screen.
His expression seemed calm, but sweat had broken out on his forehead.
Speaking fluent French to the person behind him, he said: "It’s not that simple. The other party’s security system is of a very high level. I’ve never seen such complex programming in Corland. It shows that the adversary is an expert."
The more he talked, the more excited he became, and a spark of light appeared in his eyes.
He didn’t expect that this trip to Corland would bring such an unexpected harvest; it had been a long time since he had met a worthy opponent.
Good. The other party had piqued his interest.
"I must meet the person who created this kind of program myself!"
"Porter, don’t forget the main task I assigned to you. You must break through their system within three days."
"Three days? You’re dreaming! It’s already good enough that I can ensure my IP address isn’t traced, and you dare ask me to complete it in three days?" Porter suddenly stopped his movements, his eyes full of astonishment.
"I’m out of time. If you can’t do it, I can find someone else!" The man in the grey suit sat down on the sofa, his demeanor proudly cold and uncaring, his tone cruel and heartless.
Porter retorted angrily: "Go find someone else if you want, but I remind you, with this level of difficulty, only someone ranked on the global hackers’ leaderboard would be capable."
"Aren’t you on the leaderboard?" The man asked coldly.
Porter was suddenly choked by the man’s words, "Yeah, I’m ranked fifth. The adversary’s capabilities are above mine, either they are a big shot who hasn’t participated in rankings or they are among the top four."
The man fell into contemplation, "How can I contact them?"
Porter helplessly spread his hands, "If I knew, I would’ve gone to spar with them already, rather than wasting time here with you."
Now it was the man’s turn to be silent.
He had people investigate Horizon Group before but couldn’t find any clues about this laboratory.
What puzzled him the most was that the Horizon Group’s brands had not yet delved into businesses like artificial intelligence and security protection.
Yet strangely, they had set up such a high-level security defense system inside.
The person he was looking for was probably inside it.
The man tapped his fingertips lightly on the armrest of the sofa and waved to his subordinate behind him, "Go check it out, see if any of the top four hackers on the global leaderboard are in the country."
Upon receiving the order, the subordinate immediately turned and left the warehouse.
"It’s useless for you to look like this. If they were so easy to find, wouldn’t that be too shameless for people like us?"
"Oh, so only you don’t care about face?" The man sneered coldly.
He had thought that dealing with Lucas Shaw and Serena Summers, being ranked fourth, would have been enough, but that was far from sufficient.
What a waste of his time.
Porter scratched his head, somewhat embarrassed, "Isn’t it because I’m short on cash? You offered the highest price to hire me, so of course, I had to come!"
What’s more important than money—face?
The man glared at him coldly, then stood up to leave, "You’re right, I’ve paid for it. So, until I find a new hacker, continue watching over there."
Porter: "..."
You capitalists, can’t you leave a chance for the working man to survive!
Agitated, Porter clenched his fist and hammered the keyboard twice.
The next second, the computer screen suddenly sounded an alarm.
He cursed, hurrying to rectify the situation.
He had carelessly touched the keyboard, almost exposing his IP address.
At Horizon Group, Ethan Wells was sitting in front of the computer desk, eating instant noodles while staring at the computer screen.
The adversary’s hiding techniques were good, leaving almost no traces, and the IP address kept changing.
Then, it suddenly stopped.
Ethan Wells thought the other party was chickening out, and so he relaxed his guard, finishing the noodles in one go and gulping down two mouthfuls of soup.
Just as he was about to throw away the trash, the other party suddenly made a move again.
Is this a provocation?
"Damn! Watch me catch and torture you!" Ethan Wells immediately pulled over the keyboard and began to work.
In the lab, after Serena finished eating, she didn’t immediately put the small table away but waved at Edward Selwyn, "Senior brother, pass me the computer."
"You need to rest now. Let others handle these matters."
"I’m fine. I just want to check the surveillance and help me check the company’s in-out records for the past half-month."
Edward Selwyn knew she was stubborn; not even several bulls could pull her back, so he reluctantly passed the computer to her.
Then he immediately took out his phone and made a call to the reception desk. By the time he returned, he saw Serena’s slender and fair fingers tapping rapidly on the keyboard.
