Chapter 246: Our Family Has No Tradition of Making Women Bow Their Heads

Chapter 246: Chapter 246: Our Family Has No Tradition of Making Women Bow Their Heads

She was so busy she lost track of day and night, worried her family would be concerned about her.

Lucas Shaw frowned deeply, disapprovingly saying, "Experiments are important, but your health is more important. Have you forgotten nearly fainting from not sleeping the past few days?"

Serena Summers held the soup bowl in front of her, uneasily twirling it in her palm, a trace of guilt flickering in her eyes, but she still retorted: "I didn’t faint, I just fell asleep."

"Not fainting and you’re proud of it? Do you know how worried I’ve been about you these past days? But I was afraid to disturb you and dared not make a sound." Lucas’s face turned stern, his lips pressed tightly in a straight line.

Serena’s attitude quickly deflated, and she muttered softly, "If not going will make you happy, then why are you shouting at me?"

Wasn’t she doing all this to get better sooner?

During this time, even though Lucas didn’t voice it, he always felt guilty about her.

She wasn’t a fool, obviously, she could feel it.

She has never regretted giving that only antidote to Lucas Shaw, but she certainly didn’t want to see him always immersed in guilt and feeling sorry for her.

She wanted to quickly rid herself of the poison inside her, so he would stop blaming himself.

Realizing his emotions were too intense, Lucas’s lips parted, all his words stuck in his throat.

Master Shaw picked up the chopsticks in front of him and tapped on Lucas’s body, "Why the anger? Who is Serena doing this for? Apologize to her quickly."

A vein throbbed on Lucas’s forehead as he couldn’t help but retort, "Granddad, who exactly is your biological grandchild?"

"You are. So what?" Master Shaw huffed, and when his gaze turned to Serena, his demeanor instantly changed, a kind smile on his face, "Serena, don’t be upset, Lucas cares about you."

"I’m not upset," Serena glanced at Lucas and quickly looked away.

"That’s good then, Lucas, hurry up and comfort Serena."

Serena sat in the chair, chin up, waiting for Lucas to comfort her.

Lucas cleared his throat, gently tugged on Serena’s sleeve, his voice low, "I was wrong, I shouldn’t have yelled at you."

"Oh." Serena glanced at the hand on her, suppressing the curve of her lips, still pretending to be cold, "Your apology lacks sincerity, I don’t want to accept it."

"What will it take for you to accept it?" Lucas asked patiently.

"You figure it out." Serena stood up from the chair, said goodbye to Master Shaw, and went upstairs.

She pulled out a few frequently worn clothes from the wardrobe, folded them neatly into the suitcase, and put the toiletries in as well.

Time was too pressing, with only half a month left, she couldn’t delay any longer.

Downstairs, after Serena left, Lucas Shaw and Master Shaw looked at each other, speechless.

Master Shaw came to his senses, tapped Lucas’s shoulder again with the chopsticks, "What are you still sitting here for? Go and apologize. This whole thing is your fault. Serena is just a girl, what’s the point of being so harsh on her?"

"How is this my fault? She doesn’t take care of her own health, I scold her a bit, and it’s my mistake?" Lucas’s mouth twitched slightly, obviously exasperated.

Master Shaw drew back the chopsticks, insisting firmly, "It is your fault! Let me tell you, our family has no precedent of women bowing down. Go and make it up to my granddaughter-in-law. If you can’t manage that, don’t bother coming back."

Lucas helplessly touched his forehead, "Granddad, am I really your grandson?"

Master Shaw without hesitation, "No, you were picked up from a trash heap. Now go on."

He waved his hand impatiently at Lucas, his tone filled with disdain.

Lucas Shaw felt even more helpless.

He believed he hadn’t done anything wrong, and there was still an indescribable sense of grievance in his heart, but in the end, he still got up and went upstairs.

As soon as he entered the bedroom, he saw Serena Summers packing her things.

The corners of his mouth pressed down, he quickly walked up to her, "Determined to leave?"

"Yeah, otherwise coming back every day would be such a waste of time," Serena replied, her anger already dissipated; in fact, she hadn’t really been angry, just feeling somewhat stifled.

Before meeting Lucas, she had always been carefree and never forced herself to do anything.

She could accomplish most things in the shortest time, except for concocting the antidote.

Thus, an uncontrollable sense of anxiety crept up on her; she wanted to get better quickly and didn’t want to see Lucas at a loss anymore.

Her gaze dropped disappointingly, it appeared she was not strong enough yet.

If her master were here, she probably wouldn’t have to struggle like this.

Suddenly a shadow fell over her, Serena lifted her eyes and saw Lucas squatting down in front of her.

He extended his arms, pulling her into his embrace, "I shouldn’t have snapped at you, I apologize."

Serena was caught off guard by his sudden action, stumbling steadily into his arms.

She humphed petulantly, looking up at him with defiance, "Didn’t you think you did nothing wrong? Why come to apologize now?"

Lucas suddenly cupped Serena’s cheeks and leaned down to kiss her lips, "In our family, it’s not the tradition for women to concede; if you refuse to lower your head, then I will."

His lips firmly pressed against Serena’s, kissing her gently, their noses touching, their breaths intermingling.

The moment Serena opened her eyes, she could meet those deep, obscure eyes of his, and the surrounding quietness left almost only the sound of their interlacing breaths and the incessant pounding of their hearts.

After the kiss ended, Lucas slowly let go of Serena, his gaze landing on her flushed lips as his eyes deepened.

He caressed her glossy lips gently with his fingertips, the smile in his eyes growing, "This is my sincerity, did you feel it?"

Serena, dizzied by his kiss, struggled to regain her senses.

Hearing his words, her cheeks reddened even more.

Still stubborn, she said, "Regardless, I still have to go."

"Mm, I know." Once Serena made up her mind, it was hard to change it.

Lucas wrapped his arms around Serena’s delicate waist, stood up from the ground, and then walked towards the wardrobe.

He opened the wardrobe, took out his clothes, and then retrieved his suitcase from the very bottom.

"What are you doing?" Serena asked with a puzzled look.

Lucas dumped the clothes into the suitcase without much care, glancing back nonchalantly, "Aren’t we moving out? Then let’s go together."

"You’re coming with me to stay in the lab?" Serena’s eyes widened in astonishment, hardly believing her own guess.

"What? The bed there can’t fit both of us?" Lucas raised an eyebrow, asking in a low voice.

Before Serena could respond, he spoke to himself, "It should be fine if we squeeze in, right? At the worst, I can be your free mattress."
