Chapter 153: Is She Angry with Me?
Chapter 153: Chapter 153: Is She Angry with Me?
Lucas Shaw hung his head in dejection, still unwilling to give up, "May I go in to have a look? Just a glance."
"Sorry, I’m not in charge of that. Sir, please go back."
After speaking, the gatekeeper immediately closed the big gates of the villa.
Through the openwork of the gates, Lucas Shaw peered inside.
Serena, are you okay?
I miss you so much.
At that moment, in one of the rooms on the second floor of the villa, the girl who had been in a deep sleep for a long time had her long eyelashes tremble lightly as she slowly opened her eyes.
A servant came in with water and discovered that Serena Summers had awoken.
"Miss! You finally woke up! How do you feel? Are you uncomfortable anywhere?"
Serena Summers struggled to sit up in bed, her pallor could not be concealed.
She shook her head slowly, her voice hoarse and weak, "I’m fine, how did I get here?"
She remembered being at the Shaw Family residence before she passed out.
Before losing consciousness, she faintly heard someone calling her name.
She could not recall what had happened after that.
Serena Summers bent her legs and leaned back against the headboard of the bed, massaging her slightly aching head.
The servant answered truthfully: "Miss fainted, and Mr. Edward Selwyn brought you back. You’ve been asleep for almost four days."
That long?
Serena Summers was secretly shocked, lifting the cover to get out of bed.
Perhaps she had been lying down too long because her legs suddenly went weak as she got out of bed.
"Miss!" The servant was quick to support Serena, preventing her from falling to the ground.
"I’m fine." Serena Summers smiled, waving her hands, and asked, "When will big brother return?"
"At this time, President Selwyn should be off from work, he must have been delayed by something. Miss, you rest well. I’ll call him right away."
As Edward Selwyn was getting ready to leave the office, he had just settled into the car when his cellphone rang.
"She’s awake? I’ll be right back!"
Edward Selwyn’s grave expression eased slightly. After hanging up, he immediately instructed Assistant Young at the driver’s seat, "Return to Continental Villa."
Soon, the car stopped in front of Continental Villa. Assistant Young looked out the window and said, "Boss, that person outside looks like Mr. Lucas Shaw."
Upon hearing this, Edward Selwyn turned his head to look out the car window, his face instantly turning cold.
"He has the audacity to come!"
Lucas Shaw leaned against the wall, his expression forlorn.
Hearing the sound behind him, he turned his head and saw a black Maybach slowly approaching, the car window lowered to reveal Edward Selwyn’s handsome face.
"President Selwyn."
Lucas Shaw stood up, casually straightened his slightly creased clothes, and walked over to Edward Selwyn.
Edward Selwyn’s face was frosty, giving him no good expression, "Mr. Lucas Shaw has so much free time now? You even have time to act as a bodyguard at my front door."
Lucas Shaw’s face darkened, clearing his throat and then explaining, "I came to see Serena."
"I’ve said before, unless those people in your family are dealt with, I won’t let Serena go back with you."
Lucas Shaw: "I just want to see Serena, just to make sure she is safe, and then I’ll leave immediately. Also, Elena Ryan and Sylvia Lane have been taken care of; they won’t bring any more threats to Serena in the future."
"Heh... Lucas Shaw, I really don’t know what Serena sees in you," Edward Selwyn said with a sarcastic laugh, instructing Assistant Young to continue driving.
Lucas Shaw stepped forward, blocking his path, "I want to see Serena."
"Serena doesn’t want to see you now."
After saying that, he rolled up the car window and drove into the villa.
Lucas Shaw had no choice but to wait outside. He stood at the door for a long time, his feet starting to go numb.
Lucas Shaw was like a stone sculpture, staring expressionlessly at the villa’s courtyard, silently hoping to see Serena come out.
Unfortunately, she did not show up all night.
When Edward Selwyn got home, he immediately went to Serena’s room.
Serena was awake, but her body was very weak, and her normally fair and tender cheeks now had an abnormal pallor.
"Serena, you’re finally awake. How do you feel? Is anything uncomfortable?" Edward Selwyn took Serena’s wrist and checked her pulse.
He didn’t breathe a sigh of relief until he was sure that this bout of poisoning had completely subsided.
"I’m fine now, thank you for your concern, Senior Brother."
"Silly girl, why are you still talking to me with such formalities?" Edward Selwyn frowned disapprovingly and gently tapped her forehead with his finger.
Serena winced from the pain, covered her forehead, and stared at him with a face full of grievance, "Senior Brother, I’m still sick! Be a little gentler."
"You really need to be sorted out! You knew those herbs were your life-saving medicine, yet you still gave them to Lucas Shaw. What were you thinking?"
Serena suddenly felt guilty and didn’t dare to look into Edward’s eyes.
She quietly countered: "I know what I am doing, and I have no regrets."
Edward was immediately frustrated, thinking there was no life more important than hers.
How could she not understand this?
"You’re awake now, just rest well. If you’re hungry, tell the kitchen to cook you something you like to eat."
"Brother, how is Lucas now? Is the poison cured? I want to go back to the Shaw Family tomorrow."
"He’s doing very well! You don’t have to worry! The antidote you prepared yourself has made him stronger than an ox, you should worry about yourself instead."
Serena’s hanging heart relaxed slightly, and a shallow smile appeared on her lips, "That’s good."
She lay in bed, holding a bowl of clear porridge and eating it bit by bit, completely unaware that someone was waiting for her outside at this time.
She had slept for several days and had no appetite after just waking up, so she only ate half a bowl of porridge before she couldn’t eat anymore.
She put the porcelain bowl on the bedside table next to her and fell into a deep sleep.
The next morning, Lucas Shaw rubbed his sore neck and closed his laptop.
Looking through the car window at the villa, he still did not see the person he wanted to see and had to leave disappointedly.
During work, Lucas Shaw was absent-minded all the time.
All he could think about was Serena.
He wondered how Serena was doing now, whether her health had improved.
Brandon Reese talked for a long time but didn’t get a response from Lucas Shaw.
He raised his head from the documents and saw his boss sitting at the desk, lost in thought.
This was the first time in history!
Their always work-obsessed Mr. Lucas Shaw was actually distracted at work, it was truly an extraordinary sight!
"Sir, are you still worried about the lady?" Brandon Reese asked bravely.
Lucas Shaw collected his thoughts, his brows tightly furrowed, his handsome face tired from a sleepless night, and two faint dark circles under his eyes.
"Do you think... is Serena awake now? Is she angry with me? At first, I didn’t take Elena Ryan and Sylvia Lane seriously, thinking they couldn’t stir up much trouble."
"But Serena is different. She’s so fragile, and they’ve ridiculed and hurt her over and over again—she must be feeling terrible inside, right? It’s all my fault."
Lucas Shaw covered his face with his hands, his dark eyes filled with remorse.
