Chapter 136 Don’t Lead Her Astray
Chapter 136: Chapter 136 Don’t Lead Her Astray
Lucas Shaw slightly narrowed his eyes, releasing a dangerous glimmer from their depths.
His gaze was fixed on Fiona Ryan’s hand resting on top of Serena Summers’ head, as he sneered inwardly.
His darling wife, whom he himself hadn’t had enough of touching,
was being taken advantage of by Fiona Ryan.
"Fiona."
Fiona’s hand paused slightly, and turning her head, she saw Lucas Shaw, who had unknowingly come up behind her.
"Oh, really like a newlywed, you’ve come back after just a few minutes?"
Lucas Shaw ignored her teasing and said coldly, "Remove your hand."
"I won’t." Fiona chuckled, intensifying her actions by pinching Serena’s rosy cheeks.
Serena obediently let her do so, too docile for words.
It made one want to hold her in their arms and protect her tenderly.
Lucas Shaw extended his long arm and pulled Serena into his embrace.
Caught off guard, Serena crashed into his broad, solid chest, and pain shot through her nose.
She couldn’t help frowning and protested with grievance, "Be gentle."
Lucas Shaw’s breath hitched, and the cold, strong aura around him instantly dissipated completely.
"Alright."
He lifted his hand, gently rubbing Serena’s nose with the warm tips of his fingers, concern evident as he asked, "Did it hurt when you bumped?"
"Not too much, just a little," Serena gestured with her hand.
Looking at her playful and sly demeanor, Lucas Shaw couldn’t help but chuckle lightly and grasped Serena’s soft, fair hand.
"Such a delicate flower."
Fiona Ryan, who had been watching the whole process, widened her eyes in shock. Disbelief and surprise filled her gaze.
Is this person really Lucas Shaw, or has he been possessed?
The Ryan Family and the Shaw Family were not far from each other and were old friends. Hence, Fiona had grown up with Lucas Shaw and understood his character the best.
He was cold-natured and indifferent, never allowing any woman to come close.
Even she, his cousin, was no exception.
Fiona harshly pinched her arm.
Ouch...
That hurts!
It seems this isn’t a dream.
All of this is real.
Having lived for more than two decades, this was the first time Fiona knew that Lucas Shaw had such a side.
His usually cold and abstinent face now seemed as if the glaciers had melted, all the coldness transforming into tenderness.
In those deep, bottomless dark eyes, there was no longer any dimness—instead, they were filled with fragmented light.
This kind of light, named hope and love,
was what the former Lucas Shaw lacked the most.
Fiona felt incredibly complex emotions, a touch of bitterness emerging in her heart.
At this moment, she finally understood why Lucas Shaw favored Serena Summers uniquely.
Because Serena brought a different light into his life, giving him hope to continue living.
Serena deserves it.
"When did you come back?"
Lucas Shaw tenderly reorganized Serena’s messy hair before raising his eyes to look at Fiona.
"I came back this afternoon."
Fiona had been studying abroad and had just recently finished her school commitments and returned to the country.
"Are you planning to leave again?"
"I’m not planning to leave for the time being."
Lucas Shaw nodded slightly and did not ask further.
Serena Summers slowly lifted her cheek from Lucas Shaw’s chest, eagerly saying, "Cousin, when you have time, come to the Shaw Family to visit me."
Serena adored Sister Fiona.
Although she appeared cold and indifferent, she truly cared for Lucas Shaw.
Fiona Ryan raised her eyebrows and then said, "Sure."
Serena and Fiona smiled at each other.
Watching them, Lucas suddenly felt somewhat jealous.
His dear Serena actually liked Fiona that much.
He warned in a low voice, "I don’t mind you two getting along, but don’t bring those foreign habits back here and lead her astray. I will hold you accountable."
"I know, I know! Serena is your precious darling, I promise I won’t lead her astray," Fiona Ryan assured helplessly.
Lucas hmphed, gave a few instructions to Serena, and then returned to the reception area.
Perhaps due to Serena’s unique identity, many guests looked at her with barely concealed disdain and ridicule.
In their eyes, Serena, a country bumpkin, was not fit to attend such a gathering.
Despite her marriage to Lucas Shaw, her humble background was an unchangeable fact.
Even many young ladies gathered to whisper among themselves, occasionally pointing at Serena as they got excited.
Serena pretended not to see and silently continued eating her dessert.
Fiona Ryan had just returned to the country, and many old friends came to her.
She hesitated for a moment, then looked at Serena.
Serena gave her a reassuring look, "Sister Fiona, go ahead with your matters, don’t worry about me."
"I’ll be back soon," Fiona gently brushed her soft hair, whispered a few words of caution, and then turned to leave.
After she left, the whispers around her intensified, not even bothering to cover them up.
"Some people really have no shame, a toad lusting after a swan’s flesh! Can just anyone covet Lucas?"
"Exactly! Look at her status, how could she ever match up to Lucas?"
"I heard her biological parents didn’t even want her; probably because she embarrassed them!"
Serena listened to all these words with her eyes downcast.
At that moment, a sneer came from behind her.
"The taste of being insulted isn’t pleasant, is it?" Sylvia Lane appeared from nowhere, her eyes filled with contempt and mockery.
"What others say has nothing to do with me. Whether I’m worthy of Lucas Shaw isn’t for them to judge," Serena smiled indifferently.
Sylvia Lane scoffed coldly, "I don’t believe you don’t care at all. Moreover, everything they said is true. You are just a woman from the countryside, completely unfit for public appearance."
"I indeed come from the countryside, what about you, Miss Lane? Where do you come from?" Serena slowly narrowed her eyes, a cold intent flashing through them.
Sylvia Lane was suddenly taken aback, her complexion turning pale.
Her hands nervously clenched into fists, shock and astonishment filling her eyes.
How could Serena know?
She always thought she had hidden her background well, but now Serena had exposed her.
Sylvia Lane was not actually a wealthy lady.
Her mother was just an ordinary woman, who had become close friends with Elena Ryan after saving her life.
Before her mother’s death, she entrusted her to Elena Ryan.
Over the years, Sylvia had been raised by the Shaw Family, and many assumed she was their daughter.
But she knew very well that without the Shaw Family, she was nothing.
Sylvia Lane stared bitterly at Serena.
Serena never considered herself weak, and if someone made her unhappy, she wouldn’t just let it go.
She slowly walked up to Sylvia Lane, whispering into her ear, "The Shaw Family raised you, and every penny you spend now is earned by Lucas Shaw, yet not only are you ungrateful, but you also seek to ruin my relationship with him."
"Serena shut up!"
"Oh? Daring to do but not to admit?"
