Forced to Marry the Sickly Billionaire
Chapter 127: Pain Relief

Chapter 127: Chapter 127: Pain Relief

"If that’s the case, you should realize the price you’ll have to pay once you’ve made your choice."

Edward Selwyn clenched his hands into fists, struggling to suppress the turmoil within.

He originally thought that Serena Summers married Lucas Shaw simply because she was forced.

He never expected her to go to such lengths for him!

"I know."

Serena’s voice trembled, and she softly replied, "Big brother, I have no other choice."

The young girl’s eyes were red-rimmed, filled with clear tears, looking both pitiable and stubborn.

Once Serena made up her mind, not even nine bulls could pull her back.

As her eldest senior brother, he knew this better than anyone.

Edward Selwyn’s mind hazily drifted back to the first time he encountered this girl, seventeen years ago.

At that time, Serena was just three years old, a tiny bundle curled up in a pile of trash, already delirious from hunger.

She was filthy all over, like a broken, abandoned doll without a hint of spirit or vivacity.

Edward Selwyn didn’t know why, but he spotted her hidden in the trash heap in a single glance.

When he picked up the little one, she was on her last breath, her body afflicted with a strange poison.

The master said, it was a stroke of luck that Serena had survived.

Lord Yama was not willing to take her life.

Since then, their group of three senior brothers had gained a tender and adorable little junior sister.

They were all without families, their only option to huddle together for warmth.

The little junior sister became the most beloved among them.

The master and the three of them lavished all their affection on her.

They couldn’t bear to see her suffer the slightest grievance.

But now, Serena was telling him she would sacrifice her chance to live for a man.

How could Edward Selwyn accept this?

"Serena, I can agree to anything for you, anything but this. You should go back, I will not give you the medicine."

"Senior brother, but you promised me, and a liar is a puppy!" Serena pulled on Edward Selwyn’s sleeve, her tone whining.

"Call me a dog if you like. You may leave now." Edward Selwyn’s face was stern, his voice cold without a hint of warmth.

A slight pain arose in Serena’s heart.

She opened her mouth, wanting to say something more, but Edward Selwyn had no intention of paying her any more attention.

With his head down, he seriously perused the documents on the desk, as if Serena didn’t exist at all.

Her eyes reddening, Serena looked down dejectedly.

Ever since she could remember, Edward Selwyn had never been so indifferent to her.

He was truly angry.

Serena thought silently to herself.

Although she had anticipated this outcome, she couldn’t help feeling sad.

Wiping the tears from the corner of her eye, she gave Edward Selwyn one last deep look, and then turned away to leave.

After Serena left, Edward Selwyn slowly lifted his gaze, a murderous intent filling his eyes.

He abruptly raised his hand, and swept all the documents on his desk onto the floor.

"Lucas Shaw!"

Leaving Horizon Group, Serena aimlessly looked at the busy streets, momentarily uncertain of where to go.

She hadn’t expected Edward Selwyn to become so furious.

But she had no choice.

She didn’t want Lucas Shaw to die.

But what should she do?

As she wandered the streets for a long time, Serena suddenly stopped in her tracks.

A sharp pain surged from her chest.

She squatted down sharply, curling her body into a tight ball.

Bone-piercing pain spread to each of her limbs.

Tears began to glisten at the edges of her eyes.

Serena’s pain receptors were underdeveloped, so her pain perception was much less than that of ordinary people.

Even so, when the poison reacted and pain swept through her body, Serena still felt an almost spasm-like agony.

She bit down on her teeth, enduring the pain silently.

The intense stabbing pain came in waves, each stronger than the last.

Serena Summers, trembling, took out a Spring Elixir from her bag.

But the effect wasn’t obvious.

She had taken too many medicines over the years, and her body had started to build resistance.

For ordinary people, Spring Elixir was an excellent antidote.

For her, however, it couldn’t even provide basic pain relief.

Serena Summers let out a wry smile of resignation. Lucas Shaw’s handsome and cold face flashed through her mind.

When he had poisoning episodes, they must have been more painful than this.

Suddenly, a voice came from behind her.

"Little sister, are you here all by yourself? Are you feeling unwell? Do you want your brother to take you home?"

Serena Summers raised her pale face and saw a man swaying on his feet, holding a bottle of liquor, approaching her.

A lewd smile spread across his face, and he looked at Serena Summers with a gaze that was openly amazed and audacious.

Such a gaze made Serena Summers feel physically sick.

She furrowed her brows and forced herself to stand.

"Get lost!"

The man was momentarily stunned, and then he burst into laughter.

"I thought you were a little doll, but it turns out you’re a spicy pepper! No matter, brother here loves this kind the most!"

As he said this, the man moved closer to Serena Summers, reaching out to pull her into his embrace.

Serena Summers’s eyes turned cold, and she quickly retreated two steps.

"What do you want to do?"

"Don’t be nervous, little sister. Brother here just sees that it’s not safe for you to be alone. Do you want to come home with me? I’ve got fun stuff at my place that I’m sure you’ll love!" The man said with a face full of drunkenness.

As he spoke, he caressed his beer belly lightly.

Serena Summers couldn’t help but shiver with disgust.

Her hands clenched into fists, her nails digging into her flesh, trying to keep herself clear-headed.

By this time, it was late at night, and there weren’t many pedestrians on the street.

Serena Summers silently calculated the possibility of escape.

But before she could react, the man hurried over.

"Sister, don’t be afraid, I’m definitely not a bad guy!"

As the hand reached out to her, Serena Summers swayed imperceptibly.

She involuntarily held her breath, and the world before her eyes began to spin.

Serena Summers thought to herself that this was bad.

Just then, a hand with distinct knuckles grasped the man’s wrist tightly and twisted it fiercely.

The man screamed in pain, grimacing as the sound of crisp bone-cracking suddenly erupted.

He immediately burst into tears, sobbing, and his drunkenness sobered up considerably.

He begged piteously, "Big, big brother, spare me! I will never dare again! Please let me go!"

"People like you dare to touch anyone! Assistant Young, tie him up."

Assistant Young immediately stepped forward and escorted the man away.

With the crisis averted, Serena Summers let out a huge sigh of relief.

Edward Selwyn quickly wrapped his arms around Serena Summers, his eyes full of concern.

"What happened? Are you having a poison attack?"

"Big senior brother."

Serena Summers’s pale lips parted weakly, barely managing to utter a few words.

"Pain..."

"You still know what pain is, huh?" Edward Selwyn’s temples throbbed fiercely, he scooped her up by her waist, and carried her into the car.

"I got those medicines for you because I couldn’t bear seeing you like this. And you, you’re ready to give them away to someone else! Heartless little thing!"

Edward Selwyn’s face was filled with anger.

Waves of coldness emanated from within his body, which made Serena Summers shiver uncontrollably.

She curled up into a ball; her delicate rosy cheeks now devoid of any color.
